Joints hurt today. My fingers are swollen enough that I actually had to take my ring off. Slept like crap. Humidity and heat - DO NOT WANT. Taking robaxacet for the joint and muscle pain, and tea for the slept like crap and the robaxacet drowsiness. Also, work's dress code is really dumb on days like this - long pants and button down shirts in this weather is just mean.
It rained hard engouh last night that the sub basement parking garage (where my spot is) flooded. When I got home last night there was enoguh water that it was an inch over the elevator door. I walked up one floor to get the elevator.
This morning, the water level had lowered, but half the garage is still underwater. Fun! the humidity is hihg enough that the rain droplets on the car from last night were still there.
On closer inspection, the elevator sign about the scary guy is much worse than I first thought. The guy is known to police, and hung around for two hours after being refused entry to our building after making an indecent proposal to a woman entering the building. This guy apparently does this to neighbourhoods, lurks around trying to get into buildings. There is a warrant for his arrest from previous lurking. If we see him, we're supposed to go inside and call the cops, and NOT tell the guy we're doing so.
I was annoyed last night when work kept me from the gym, because missing Monday threatens to mung up my exercise schedule for the whole week.
Getting woken up at 4:21 this morning made getting a good workout today harder.
Now, I whacked my hand on the corner of a table hard enoguh that I can feel the bruise on the back of my hand in my palm, and my arm is throbbing from fingertips to elbow. I'm periodically running it under cold water for as long as I can stand, and I've taken advil, both to combat swelling. I can still move my hand, so I doubt it's broken, but making a fist is challenging. I don't think I should be doing any weightlifting with my right hand today. :(
I have a feeling this week is out to get me somehow...
ETA at 15:20: Okay, maybe it *is* broken. I'm going to drive home now and then call telehealth and see what they say.
ETAA at 16:54: At home now, and the pain seems to be receding. Even if it is broken, there's not much to be done for it.I'm going to wait a bit and then go on with my plans for the night. If it doesn't get better, I'll go see my GP tomorrow.
After taking myself out to dinner, I am finally home safe. I had to take a somewhat circuitous route from the 401, since I was following the plows, and there were 4 foot tall snowbanks blocking the on ramp to the Allen. Thankfully, someone had bulled through the similar snow bank at Avenue, so I made it off the highway, where I followed a van that did not have its rear window defrost on, and was not using its rear window wiper. It made up for that deficiency by driving 20 kph straddling two lanes.
I am glad to be home. Now to see if the cold meds are strong enough to keep the cough of D00m at bay long enough to sleep.
Holy crap. It's only 9:30 and I don't have anything I neeeed to be doing. I... don't know what to do with myself! (gimme a minute, I'll think of something. Maybe write some microfic or watch some Dexter.)
I worked from home both yesterday and today. Yesterday I just decided that with the snow on the ground and the forecasted doom, home was the best choice. This morning, I had a dentist's appointment, and felt a little guilty about staying home yesterday, so I figured I'd try to drive in. My street didn't get plowed until about 4 this afternoon, so getting out at 9:30 was interesting; thankfully my civic is a little hockey puck and can sort of slide over the snow with a little coaxing.
I made it as far as Keele on the 401 (which was sticky and slippery), when traffic reports informed me that the 401 all the way to work was slow and filled with accidents and blocked lanes. I gave up and turned around. It took me until 11 to get home. I got back to my street, and there was a station wagon trying to get up the street as I was trying to get down it, with an SUV behind him.
I stopped and grabbed the shovel from my trunk to help the station wagon - I wasn't getting past until he got unstuck anyway. After some digging and pushing, we managed to get him back into the driveway for his building - he gave up on trying to get out onto the main street. The SUV driver, of course, just kept rolling up closer and closer on the station wagon, including trying to drive on the sidewalk to get around the station wagon. He had a bad back and said he couldn't help push, but he'd be glad to shove the station wagon with his SUV. The station wagon driver declined.
Once I got home, I decided that I couldn't do anything else until I made myself a pot of dagoba hot chocolate, according to the directions on the tin (heat milk slowly, stirring eleven times clockwise, the eleven times counterclockwise, until vapours begin to form...)
In retrospect, I should have just stayed home in the first place. We shall see if I catch flak for it at work tomorrow.
* bought and installed new wiper blades on the car * got more windshield washer fluid * got gas * got groceries for tonight's dinner, my new recipe night contribution, and liz' NRN contribution * got wine and sherry * the new desktop ZIM! should arrive at the office before noon tomorrow
The bad;
* hip sore again, so workout was short. I blame lunges, and will try not doing them to see if that helps. * I am so freaking tired that I don't have the energy to cook anything. But, if I don't, it will rot before it gets cooked. So, off to work I go. I think there is something weird about having to stay up past my bedtime just to get dinner ready. At least there is wine!
Because I keep coming up with ideas, and not doing anything about them because I forget:
Pending creative endeavours
LJ post: Where Is My Mind: A meta-magical examination of my state of mind of late.
Microfic of the day (goal: one per day for November)
WorldBuilding: Making magic; designing a function ficton from the magic up
Neologism: SpellPunk
Finish up zombie raver outfit
Build my own Brass Goggles; I have the materials, just need to spend an hour or so with the dremel. Sadly, won't have time before NeoVictiorian Nightmares.
Caged Faerie: will require me learning how to do wiring.
I will be taking suggestions for microfic topics as I try to post one microfic per day.
My zombie mask is done! I am glad I have a powerful fan to aid the drying of paint and papier mache. So, I have all my props and everything for Bards tomorrow night. I've done a dry run including pre-amble. I am nervous as hell.
I still need to pack for tomorrow, and get some stuff together so that I will be ready to run to the video shoot saturday once I get back.
We will need to be leaving the appt in less than 6 hours to get Liz to her plane on time. I should be in bed soon.
