For those who occasionally came to the meetups at the Dog and Bull...
I just learned that long-time attendee Robert Walshe, AKA Rob2 and a lovely gentle giant of a man, died over Christmas. He was 61. His family didn't know about his involvement in fandom, apparently, so they didn't tell us.
ZZ9 members may also remember Silas Potts, who passed away around the same time.
Ave, atque, vale, Robert and Silas. You were good chaps and I will miss you.
Um. Just been watching the TV. My wife and I WERE going to be in attendance tomorrow, but I'm not sure if that's going to be such a good idea now. That fire is less than 2 mins walk from the Dog and Bull.
Might I suggest an alternative? Turn left out of East Croydon Station and go down Cherry Orchard Road, then hang a right at Leslie Park Road and a little way down (opposite the Lebanon Road junction) is the Builder's Arms, it's pretty good, quite large in the back and well away from the city centre.
Be willing to listen to any other possibilities, but I'm not sure I fancy heading into the center of Croydon tomorrow evening.
I omitted to plug this for the last couple of months, because I am new to this sort of thing and really a bit rubbish at it.
But anyway - on Tuesday, it's the monthly Croydon SF fan pub meet. It's at the Dog and Bull in Surrey Street, near the Church Street tram stop, from about 7:30pm. We're often to be found in the back bit of the pub if we get in the way of the pub quiz, or sometimes in the private function room upstairs. Just ask at the bar where the science-fiction people are. :¬)
Tue 12th May. Facebook types can find the event here.
I don't know about the official Croydon Collective, but there has been a monthly SF pub meet in Croydon going on for two decades already - well, according to the Fermat on the Beach fanzine, anyway.
And it's the anniversary drinkie tonight! I'd have said something earlier, but I've only just found this group.
Anyway, from 8pm, at the Dog & Bull pub in Surrey Street, near the George Street tram stop. Tonight, 10th Feb 2009. Be good to see some new faces there!
If you can't make this one, it happens every month on the night of the second Tuesday of the month.
I don't think there are any other pub nites planned for the Croydon Collective, but I will keep this site here (for as long as livejournal.com allow me to).
Thanks to all who attended the Croydon Collective while it was still going.
Red Dwarf stars Hattie Hayridge & Norman Lovett will be at Croydon's Ashcroft Theatre (part of the Fairfield Halls complex!) The date is Tuesday, 20th May from 7.45PM.
I just thought I would post it here FIRST.
The Fairfield Halls thingy had this to say about the show: Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Red Dwar, Hattie and ( Collapse )
I have been trying to advertise Croydon Collective, recently joined "Facebook" and we are now listed there. CROYDON COLLECTIVE now on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?…
