I admittedly get really 🥹🥹🥹 whenever I see mama animals and baby animals (due to my issues and problems) but there's something so charming and awesome about mama animals that are just kind of bad at handling baby animals. Like what the hell girl.
*And to be clear I specifically mean that To Me as a clueless human with little animal knowledge, mama animal appears to have just shown up on the job today and is figuring out baby animal as she goes. Maybe she's doing a good job and I just can't tell.

Idk if it’s just me but did anyone else find the Data Dash one a bit pointless? It might be because I’m into the whole software side and knew the answer offhand, but I feel like they could have altered the question to make it more of a challenge to answer.
Is this just my specialist knowledge getting in the way? This one was just kind of… arbitrary. Like, they rigged the question so that the result would be more or less random: if they’d done two seasons, or a high quality upload or whatever, then it would go the other way for certain, and they know that. (And also this is a question that could be answered with Math rather than an experiment: [XKCD has done it.](https://what-if.xkcd.com/31/)
I don’t know, I just feel like it wasn’t answering any kind of question, which was a shame. The kink one was brilliant as a “weird question” experiment, and the last one is just hilarious, but the data one feels like a cool idea that they didn’t take far enough.

>download the acsm file
>de-drm the acsm file with calibre (make sure you have the acsm plugin installed first)
> you own the ebook FOREVER
> upload the file to libgen
> EVERYONE GETS THE BOOK FOREVER

- Download all of the above, run calibre, go to "preferences" and scroll down to plugins
- Select "load plugin from file" (you will need to extract the NoDRM zip but not the ACSM) and load the zips
- For DeACSM you'll need to log in using Adobe (you can use a free account for this). To log in, find DeACSM under "File types" in the plugins window and double click on it and log in with your Adobe credentials
- Restart calibre
- Drag your ebooks from libby into calibre. Should convert them into Epubs without DRM automatically! Try opening the file to make sure it's all worked :)
Opening my author email these days really is just some variation of "hello influencer, we have noticed your [product] and that you are very good at it. We would like to talk to you about a way you can expand your audience using our unique subscription service training people how to self publish there book," and that's great and all, but I'm doing that shit for free.
Anyway, in light of Draft2Digital implementing fees for new authors or authors who do not make the yearly threshold of sales (I get why they're doing it, and it's still less expensive than Ingram by a country mile. But it still sucks for the people affected by it and it will drive more people to Amazon :/), you can publish your digital media directly through Kobo.
They do not offer paperbacks or hardbacks at this time.
But their digital market has the same e-book and audio market reach as D2D/Ingram and allows for library lending. So if you are an indie author who was mostly using D2D for that library access, and for whom the maintenance fees would be prohibitive against your earnings, you can use Kobo for free.
I haven't used it, because I'm not affected by the D2D fees and I didn't want to mess up my market listings by having duplicates, but when I heard about the D2D fees, I started researching so I could hopefully find a free alternative with comparable market reach. And good old Kobo was there.
Anyway. Hope that helps someone.

I am looking at Ingram right now and wondering if I need to pull my book or not. :-/
Ingram isn't currently charging you to host if you don't meet a certain royalty threshold.
D2D has implemented it to try and combat the fact that their free access model means they've been getting hammered by AI slop uploads. (Barnes and Noble are also getting hammered, and they've chosen instead to restrict author accounts to 100 books per account.) They're hoping having a small fee will discourage those people.
The $12 yearly maintenance fee through D2D is still substantially lower than what Ingram charges to distribute through them every time you make an upload (the last time I looked it worked out at $75 per physical book + $25 every time you wanted to make a change to the files) but it's still enough of a barrier that some authors who don't make the $100+ a year threshold are looking for a different platform.
It's disheartening. I understand by D2D are doing what they are doing, but yeah. Not great.
I will just add that Ingram spark abolished upload and reupload fees completely in Feb this year (2026). There's some rules about how many reuploads you can do in a certain amount of time but it does make the D2D annual fee a little more sour when holding them side by side.
Oh! I knew they were making changes, but I wasn't aware they'd completely abolished it. Sounds like they were losing too many people to D2D and adopted their model. I wonder if they're about to get hit my the AI slop uploads then as well :/
Do we know if they're still charging $25 per half hour to talk to a customer support?
I had to deal with that earlier in the year when they "accidentally" enabled a book for distribution that wasn't meant to be available and I couldn't pull it off the market without phoning them because the person on the other end of the email gave zero shits -_-

My beloved father is a Boomer. Unlike most Boomers, my father is rather handy with technology because he was one of the people that had a not-insignificant hand in Developing a hell of a lot of it. He was studying Computer Science at Cal Poly before the computer science degree existed. I have many fond childhood memories of skipping through the aisles of various electronic and computer part warehouses while Dad described something that either terrified the staff or made them worship him as a God. He taught himself how to use his smartphone. Internationally.
So when he saw the option to file digitally with the IRS through the “ID.me” program, he leapt at the chance to celebrate the Federal Government finally entering the Digital Age.
It was all going swimmingly for about six hours, until he was ready to file and the system told him that it needed to verify his identity.
“Very Well.” said my father, a man unafraid of talking to himself and getting something out of the conversation. “It wouldn’t do for me to get someone else’s return.”
The System told him that it needed him to take a “Digital Image ID”.
