Welcome to Wiki Loves Food (WLF) photo competition

It doesn’t matter when you have captured the photo, only that you upload it after 00:00 IST on 15th April 2015 and before the final deadline of 23:59 IST on 30th April 2015. Similarly for Phase II, The submission starts after 00.00 IST on 1st May 2015 and ends at 11.59 IST on 1ST June 2015.
We also invite you to take part in the categorization of recently promoted quality images.
Comments- I give you weak support for promotion to QI for this one. There are focus problems in this photo, too, but I consider the idols themselves sufficiently in focus, and it's a good composition. However, I'd welcome for anyone who disagrees to take this to Consensual Review for a discussion and majority vote. -- Ikan Kekek06:02, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! It is great that you nominate photos by other users for QIC, but please do not include such long descriptions as you do on the nominations. I know that when you use the QIC nom tool, it copies the entire text from the file's description, but you have to replace that with a much shorter description in your own words. This can be done either in the small box you get when you click on the "Nominate this file for QI" or in the editing window when you have entered your nominations at QIC. Having the full description in the "frame" is not at all necessary since the reviewers read it on the file's page and we try not to clutter the page needlessly. All the best, --cart-Talk18:19, 28 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks cart for the advice. Yes, it was the default QIC nom tool structure that I was using. Will be editing it to the required minimum in the future. --Sumit Surai (talk) 04:50, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Support - Useful. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:21, 22 March 2017 (UTC) - Hold it: Scope must be linked to a Commons category, so that any other photos in the scope (if there are any) can be compared to this one. Comment - You need to link your scope to a Commons category. Please have a look at how other nominations' scopes are structured. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:53, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Comment - Thanks a lot. Since there are multiple types of aloo chaat, selecting one image as most useful in that category seems questionable. Should the scope of this nomination be contracted to Aloo Chaat, Alu Kabli? Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:49, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Comment - You are right that there are multiple types of Aloo Chaat. Alu Kabli is one of them. But I chose the parent category as Alu Kabli till now have only one photo. Do you suggest I create a sub category, move the file there and nominate within that scope?--Sumit Surai (talk) 20:56, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello Sumitsurai, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:23, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
We also invite you to take part in the categorization of recently promoted quality images.
CommentsOK for me but it's a pity for the noise. Further, I would crop a bit of the left border to the arch centered and apply a slight horizontal correction to straighten the horizontal lines. --Basotxerri17:41, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
We also invite you to take part in the categorization of recently promoted quality images.
CommentsGood quality, though 1/350s seems unnecessary for a static structure at 28mm, you could have gone with a slower shutter speed and lower ISO hence higher quality. --Trougnouf22:03, 27 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.
Dear Sumitsurai,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Hallo Sumit Surai, thank you for the honour to propose me as a judge in the upcoming Wiki Loves Monuments, India 2018. I must tell you that I have no idea, what I have to do as judge, and also, how many time it will take. At the moment I still have a "normal" profession (next year in May I will be retired and I hope I will have more time for Wikimedia). Also my family needs some time. Working for Wikimedia is only a hobby. So I can't work every day for a certain time in Wikimedia, sometimes i must also pause for some days (so I can't bei online every day). Can you please inform me, what I have to do, how long it will last (only september?) and how much time I will need per day and if it is also possible to pause for one or severeal days? Sincerely --Llez (talk) 13:54, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi Sumit Surai, I accept. It is a honour and a challenge for me. I never worked a judge and never with Montage, but I'm shure you will help me if there are questions (and I suppose there will be more than one). To a good cooperation. --Llez (talk) 16:12, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Comment it would be good to reduce the scope to what is actually shown here at west wall and north wall.

Comments Support I think a slight perspective correction to look like we are in front of the block would be a great improvement, but that's probably not expected for QI (which it is) --Trougnouf23:16, 25 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated page should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
Hallo, Sumitsurai. in the last rounds it was very clear, what I had to do: select the images in the first round and then ranking them in the second round.
When I open the third round, I find the images ranked from place 1 to place 58. They are seemingly already ranked. I have no idea what I have to do exactly in the third round and how? I found no instruction or a link to an instruction on the page.

Hallo Sumitsurai, thanks for the honour to be nominated again for the jury. I have only one problem in the moment: I am in holidays from Septeber 7 to September 22 and I don't know yet, if I will have the opportubity to go online. So it depends, when "Wiki Loves Monuments India 2019" begins. If it starts after September 22, I am pleased be in the jury again. --Llez (talk) 04:43, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hallo Sumitsurai,

Hi
Thank you so much for contributing to the UK section of this year's Wiki Loves Monuments contest, which finished yesterday. We really do appreciate the time and effort you've put in to record the UK's built cultural heritage for future generations.
Your contribution has been been added to our collections here on Wikimedia Commons, and is already available for editors to make use of on Wikipedia and elsewhere. It has also been entered into this year's contest. If you'd like to see your own images, just click on the uploads link at the top right of this page (if you don't see it, click on the Log in option first).
We've received over 10,000 UK entries this year, and it will take a few weeks for our volunteers and professional judges to decide on the final top 10. The winners will be announced by the end of this month, both here on Wikimedia Commons and also on the competition website.
The top 10 UK images will go forward to the international section where they will compete against winners from some 50 other countries. The international winners should be announced here in December.
Don't forget, by the way, that if you're hoping to win a prize in the contest it's essential that you have enabled email in your Wikimedia preferences. If you haven't, you're not eligible to win. If you're unsure, please check here.
I began to rank for the second round, but it was not possible to save the ranking made hitherto (Bad Request: must submit all rankings at once. (expected 117 submissions, got 100.) Is it possible to save after a while and then to continue, or must I do the rankig nonstop (i.e. to rank all), befor I can save it? It is not possible to me to do this without interrutpion for I must do it time by time (as in the first round). --Llez (talk) 13:02, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
PS. Every time I open the voting page, the pictures are arranged in another order.
Thanks for letting me know. Please do not try for the time being. It looks like Montage is unable to handle images more than 100 for ranking. I am checking and getting back to you as soon as possible. Thanks --Sumit Surai (talk) 14:54, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Montage is not supporting more than 100 images for ranking, so I changed it to rating in this round. Really sorry that we would have to do a final ranking round after this. Do let me know if there are any other issues. Thanks --Sumit Surai (talk) 15:10, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators.
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2019, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again a few minutes of your time.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that the images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface by simply adding the national category.
If you take part, please consider improving the description in English of your files, since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them at the following step. World finalists will be finalized after March 2022.

Hi! You have recently tried/used Wikimedia Commons features in OpenRefine (uploading files, or editing existing files). I'm curious to hear how this has gone, also if you only briefly tried these features.
To help the OpenRefine team with future improvements, it would be immensely helpful if you would be willing to spend a bit of time filling in two surveys. (Yes, two! Each of them uses a different method and (open source) platform). Both will run until approximately end October 2023.
A first, classical, survey (fully anonymous) where you can tell us how you use the Commons features in OpenRefine, and how you (want to) learn to use them better;
A second, more experimental survey (also fully anonymous) in which you prioritize the features that matter most to you. This second survey is a bit strange in that you can 'just keep clicking'. Feel free to use it as long or as briefly as you want; you can stop any time. Please also add your own suggestions!
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated contents should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Geden Tharpa Choeling Monastery - Kalimpong (64).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.
Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Dear Sumitsurai,
We are very grateful for your help with pre-selecting photos for our edition of Wiki Loves Monuments 2024 - it allowed us to meet the deadline of the International team, and submit the winning pictures of our competition to the International Jury.
We are still wrapping up things on our end, so we would be able to send the souvenirs and certificates of gratitude only some time in January. Sorry about this delay, but we hope this unique barnstar can serve as a virtual thank you note meanwhile!

These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2024.

Hello Sumitsurai!,
You are receiving this message as you have previously participated in one of the Wiki Loves X campaigns or are an active Wikimedia Commons contributor.
We’re excited to announce that the Wiki Science Competition 2025 in India is being organized for the very first time at a national level.
This global campaign celebrates science through freely licensed images, videos, and other media on Wikimedia Commons. By participating, you help make science more visible, accessible, and inspiring to people everywhere.
The competition features eight exciting categories:
People in Science
Microscopy
Astronomy
Everyday Science
Scientific Equipment
Chemistry
Physics
Special Category
Campaign Duration:
The competition will run from 1 November to 15 December 2025.
You can upload your images anytime during this period.
Images taken before 1 November 2025 are also eligible, as long as they have never been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons before.
We’re excited to introduce the first-ever dedicated "Mobile Photography" participation option.
Now, you can upload photographs taken with your mobile phone directly through a special upload wizard.
This new option is designed to encourage students and individuals who may not have access to high-end cameras like DSLRs to participate.
Whether your images are captured using a mobile phone or a professional DSLR, all submissions will be judged equally within the relevant category.
This ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to capture and share the wonders of science from their own perspective.
We look forward to your participation and support in making this national campaign a great success. It’s your chance to participate, get recognized, and show how science looks through your lens!. Thank you.
If you want to take part in Swiss WSC2025, please consult this page. There are different categories that can be used (you might therefore have something already interesting in your archive). Prizes can be allocated for the 1st and 2nd positions in every category.
If you are an expert user, we remind you that the images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category by simply adding the national category (even if not uploaded with the main interface).
If you take part, please consider to provide a complete description in English of your files, since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them at the following step. World finalists will be finalized after March 2026.
Sorry for bothering you and have a nice wiki.

2024 Picture of the Year:Mundari man polishing the horns of one of his Watusi cows using a mixture of cow urine and ash as a ritualistic and protective practice in a temporary cattle camp in Terekeka, South Sudan.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
