Unicode data semi-protection

This discussion was archived without a proper resolution. tl;dr all of the data files under Category:Unicode Module Datasets should definitely be at the very least indefinitely semi-protected, either directly or through some indirect means, because of their (very) high visibility. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 21:11, 16 August 2025 (UTC)

Looking at that discussion, it looks like we want to protect at the template editor level, but the user who requested protection has not gotten around to requesting that level of rights. - Jmabel ! talk 00:35, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
Protecting at the template editor level is fine too, at least for some of the data, but we shouldn't leave them unprotected until we get that sorted out. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 17:47, 17 August 2025 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought the conclusion at the linked discussion was that this should be protected at template editor level, and that certainly was my read of Surjection's request here. BashBuilder I will accept your interpretation and lower this to autopatrollers. Certainly no one below that level should be messing with these. This is going to take me another half-hour or so. If someone wants this changed yet again after that, ask someone other than me. - Jmabel ! talk 05:12, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

@Surjection Those 2 accounts are not a sockpuppet in en.wiktionary.org. BiggCooker (talk) 13:56, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
Nevermind, one of their accounts was blocked here too. Maybe a Commons CU could look at it. (I suspect the account that responded to me above is them, too. I've had to block dozens of their socks on en.wikt alone.) — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 23:03, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
I have started a checkuser case, see Commons:Requests for checkuser#BiggCooker. Tvpuppy (talk) 13:08, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

Dnerm

No meaningful contributions other than nudity, personally think most of their files could be speedied as vandalism per Com:Nudity. Takipoint123 (💬) 05:23, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

I want to express some kind of   Support to this report. I concur in that a lot of his uploads were unsuitable per COM:Nudity, leading me to open Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Dnerm. Now, this uploader went and nominated himself the files I purposefully left out of the DR, as I thought that those not included were acceptable. Commons:Deletion requests/File:A photo of a person defecating.jpg is a DR about a photo that IMHO had some kind of educational value, for instance.
As it stand now, the only files not deleted are those in my mass DR. The others were put up for elimination by the uploader. I could see that behaviour either as wish to unbind himself from Commons or as an act of defiance, hence my initially stated "kind of support". Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 06:01, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Personally I'm not too sure what they're up to either with the self-DRs. They've already blocked at Kowiki for vandalism [6] and also repeatedly uploaded after their warning at the talkpage too. Template subpages

For example, I noticed that Template:Number cat/data and Template:Number cat/layout (but not the doc subpage) are used and transcluded by more than 57000 pages, they even have some more transclusions than their main Template:Number cat. But only the latter main template has been semiprotected years ago. I could edit those two subpages. And any vandalising IP or new user could vandalise over 57000 pages at once. I think they should be semiprotected, too. I could imagine even more of those subpages which aren’t protected at all, just because they were forgotten, but which also are used that often. Perhaps a tool or a bot could find those often transcluded template (sub)pages, so they can get semiprotection. What is the transclusion limit, that such pages will be semiprotected or templateprotected? I didn’t found one in the protection policy. —176.1.12.108 11:06, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and 2 function talk pages

First, thanks for re-opening this main function page for all users after 3 years of protection, when no IP or new user could request unprotection for any page in this wiki anymore (or protection of any page as in the section above this one). I suppose that there will be a lot more protected pages than necessary now after such a long time. Therefore it’s good to reactivate this page again.

I think that this applies in a similar way also to the following function page and both talk pages: Please unprotected Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons talk:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons talk:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections. Those pages made the protection circle around these pages complete, therefore they should be unprotected again and get their function back for all users.

More concrete: The main admin noticeboard was protected by A.Savin over 2 years ago in June 2023 because of vandalism at that time. Perhaps he could unprotect it himself? The talk pages of both function pages also were both protected over 2 years ago by Mdaniels5757, because of this reason:

  • "No reason IPs and non-established users need to edit this page normally; if an actual discussion occurs please unprotect so they can participate."

None of those 4 pages could be used anymore in the last 2 years, they have lost their functions for IP and new users completely. And obviously, for no discussion in this long time, the talk pages were unprotected again. It’s not practicable to open a page only, if their already is a discussion on the page. Nobody then remembers anymore to unprotect the page for an on-going discussion. Instead, it should be protected only, if their is an actual reason for it, and, on talk pages or function pages, only for shorter terms.

I already requested the unprotection a few days ago on Mdaniels talk page about this whole protection circle around this function page for (un)protection requests. In consequence, this one page has been unprotected, but not the talk pages. The discussion there was about this page and also about, if it could be split. This discussion could have taken place here on the talk page, if it wouldn’t be protected all the time. This shows that no discussion about this page will open the talk page. And it should not stay protected for more years any longer. This would serve the wiki better and would not exclude whole user groups for many years from main function talk pages. Neither the main admin noticeboard nor their two talk pages could serve as fall-back in the last 2 years that this page had been closed for all IP and new users. So this user group couldn’t request any unprotection of any page anymore, neither here nor on the other 3 protected function pages and its talk pages. This is problematic, so please open all those pages again for all users and give them a new start. And please protect those pages only for shorter terms and in actual cases in the future. —176.1.12.108 15:54, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

As for the indefinite protection of the two talk pages that still is on the pages now for more than 2 years, I want to add that it’s the first protection of those 2 pages ever. They have never been protected before 2023, see their protection logs. This is really too long for their first protections. And the main admin function page Commons:Administrators' noticeboard should be usable for all users, if they have any other request for admins besides blocks or protections. Or should they request other requests on function pages for user blocks instead, where these would be wrong? This defunctioning of main function pages for a whole user group for such a long time (indefinite) including its talk pages is a problem for this wiki. —176.1.12.108 16:34, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

I think the talk pages should stay protected because people edit them by mistake instead of the main pages. But I will also give unprotection a try on COM:AN. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 01:42, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

Template:User Files and Template:User Files/layout see widespread use on Commons, both in and of themselves and as part of templates that make use of it such as Template:User QI or Template:User FP. The latter two are already protected, but the template (and layout page) they depend on aren't. ReneeWrites (talk) 18:55, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

I noticed another user attempted to implement dark mode colors to the template but did it incorrectly. So, I would like to try doing it correctly before the template gets protected. It shouldn’t take too long (should finish it by today), hopefully you (or admins) wouldn’t mind this. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 19:26, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Since late August I reverted the edits a total of 8 times and I feel like it won't be the last. I previously requested protection for these images a year ago and they were protected for 6 months. But since that protection is expired, the same person is still changing the description. I had to revert their edit twice since my last post which you can see on my latest contribution.

Protect POTY 2024 from vandalism

Dear administrators,

POTY 2024 is starting in approximately 24 hours. CentralNotice banners will be placed on all wikis with a link to POTY which usually drives huge trafic on POTY pages. Last year multiple POTY 2023 pages were repeatedly vandalized including the contest main page (see this history for examples) until they got protected. I think this time it could be nice to protect the pages before they get vandalized. Here are some pages that should be protected:

And all galleries accessible from the gallery page.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

-- Giles Laurent (talk) 21:12, 13 September 2025 (UTC)

Agree, please protect at least the main page. Last year someome had completely deleted it and the contest was inaccessible for multiple minutes which is very problematic and inacceptable as there are links on all wikis advertising POTY so many people get impacted by vandalism! -- Giles Laurent (talk) 17:09, 16 September 2025 (UTC)

Lower protection for File:Flag of Russia.svg

I wanted to upload a more optimized version but it said I couldn’t overwrite the file, so I came here to see if protection can be lowered. RobloxMiner$$ (talk) 20:59, 13 September 2025 (UTC)

I told RobloxMiner that upload protection for that file is sysop only. I think we can lower upload protection to autopatroller. Abzeronow (talk) 21:02, 13 September 2025 (UTC)

Module:Iteration replace "span" by "bdi" in function parlst

I'd like to change the generated code in Module:Iteration function parlst:

		if catlink == '' then
			local args = {
				'<span title="U+',
				'', -- [2] = format('%04X', code + i - 1)
				'">',
				'', -- [4] = char(code + i - 1)
				'</span>',
			}
			for i = 1, count do
				args[2] = format('%04X', code + i - 1)
				args[4] = char(code + i - 1)
				insert(results, concat(args))
			end
		elseif catlink == 'U' then
			local args = {
				'[[:Category:U+',
				'', -- [2] = format('%04X', code + i - 1)
				'|<span title="U+',
				'', -- [4] = format('%04X', code + i - 1)

			}
			for i = 1, count do
				args[2] = format('%04X', code + i - 1)
				args[4] = args[2]
				args[6] = char(code + i - 1)
				insert(results, concat(args))
			end
		else
			local args = {
				'[[:Category:',
				'', -- [2] = char(code + i - 1)
				'|<span title="U+',
				'', -- [4] = format('%04X', code + i - 1)
				'">',
				'', -- [6] = char(code + i - 1)
				'</span>]]',
			}
			for i = 0, count - 1 do
				args[2] = char(code + i - 1)
				args[4] = format('%04X', code + i - 1)
				args[6] = args[2]
				insert(results, concat(args))
			end
		end

by

		if catlink == '' then
			local args = {
				'<bdi title="U+',
				'', -- [2] = format('%04X', cp)
				'">',
				'', -- [4] = char(cp)
				'</bdi>',
			}
			for cp = code, code + count - 1 do
				args[2] = format('%04X', cp)
				args[4] = char(cp)
				insert(results, concat(args))
			end
		elseif catlink == 'U' then
			local args = {
				'[[:Category:U+',
				'', -- [2] = format('%04X', cp)
				'|<bdi title="U+',

				'', -- [6] = char(cp)
				'</bdi>]]',
			}
			for cp = code, code + count - 1 do
				args[2] = format('%04X', cp)
				args[4] = args[2]
				args[6] = char(cp)
				insert(results, concat(args))
			end
		else
			local args = {
				'[[:Category:',
				'', -- [2] = char(cp)
				'|<bdi title="U+',
				'', -- [4] = format('%04X', cp)
				'">',
				'', -- [6] = char(cp)
				'</bdi>]]',
			}
			for cp = code, code + count - 1 do
				args[2] = char(cp)
				args[4] = format('%04X', cp)
				args[6] = args[2]
				insert(results, concat(args))
			end
		end

i.e. just replace the 6 occurences of "span" by "bdi". This would solve some page rendering problems when displaying random unicode characters in characters lists, notably when there are mixes of characters in different directions; aditionally it would improve the page size.

The additional change is using "cp" loop from "code" to "code + count -1", instead of looping on "i" from "0" to "count -1". It is a small Lua execution time optimization.

I created this part of the function myself, to significantly reduce the generated page sizes in large lists of characters (e.g. lists of characters in large Unicode CJK blocks, or in lists by Kangxi radical, which are not far from reaching some internal MediaWiki limit, and cause unnecessary delays when loading these pages, even if these lists are collapsed by default in categoriy description pages). There's still no error, but I had to limit the number of generated links for each character, to avoid having too many parsed nodes, by some arbitrary count of 100 links per subgroups, but it is still a bit too large, too near from the limit: before it was limited to 200 links per subgroup, now 100 links per subgroup; there are other possible optimizations for these very populated CJK category pages that I'm working on).

For now, just the simple modification above (6 replacements) should be sufficient, the second change for the loop variable only concerns Lua with minor optimization, and does not solve the MediaWiki parser limit; these are very simple changes. (it is also available in the sandbox version of the module).

I cannot edit the Module that has been restricted not just for confirmed editors (as indicated), but only for administrators (because it is heavily used; policy changed in August 2024 by user:CptViraj after another editor changed the module, but not the "parlst" function itself that I had already optimized for faster rendering without the template parameter). The change above does not affect many pages (the "parlst" function is used with the "catlink" parameter set on category pages for ~200 Unicode blocks and 214 Kangxi radicals, only when there's no template given in parameter of the invoked "parlst" function, and the long list is much simpler and much faster to generate in Lua).

The edited sandbox version of the module (which includes the changes above) was tested successfully in Category:Unicode 20000-2A6DF CJK Unified Ideographs Extension B (this category is about is the largest existing Unicode block; not all links can currently be generated in the collapsed list of characters; but all characters are still displayed, with a maximum of 100 links for each one the 214 Kangxi radicals; this category will take years to have all links populated, just like Category:Unicode 4E00-9FFF CJK Unified Ideographs which grows slowly but where cleanup of the subclassification is in progress along with related Wikidata items with free images for each CJK ideograph, including possibly many modern variants or historic ancient CJK characters which is managed in a subproject since many years). verdy_p (talk) 12:00, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Overlapping sock accounts

Two accounts uploading a lot of photos of and strange claims about a person called "Robbie (Leo) Edward Sayers" or his apparent full pseudonym of "Leocrain Thunderbolt", mainly focusing on how he ran his own civil engineering company at the age of 13 and designed a culvert system in southern Spain. More context in this deletion request.

Prior use of sockpuppet account on Commons

User DavidKaf is confirmed as a sockpuppet account of the user Wlaak [7]. On August 22nd, the "DavidKaf" account reverts a reshading at "Flag of the Syriac-Aramaic People.svg" [8]. Other concerns of meatpuppetry at Commons:Requests for rights, where a user named AramaicFuse from English Wiki replies to my request after Wlaak leaves a comment [9]. Surayeproject3 (talk) 19:38, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

As you tried to do on Turkish Wikipedia but failed, you also attempted to frame me there and have me blocked. The admins, however, found no violation regarding disallowed “sockpuppet” accounts.
Even if DavidKaf were my account, nothing has been done on Commons that would indicate a WP:BADSOCK violation: “Editors must not use alternative accounts to mislead, deceive, disrupt, or undermine consensus.”
As for AramaicFuse, I admit I saw him leave a comment on your request, but I genuinely don’t know why. He may simply be following my edits. You are welcome to file another CheckUser request on me and him.
You have also had WP:NOTHERE accounts attempt to mislead consensus on English Wikipedia, commenting on your talk page in an effort to persuade. Likewise, he probably followed your contributions and decided to join the discussion.
So what now, if any of the other six or eight accounts you reported at the SPI (all of which were found to be unrelated at every level) happen to comment in the same discussion I am in, does that automatically mean I am using a WP:BADSOCK?
This is yet another attempt from you to get rid of me. I have done nothing but edit within the books.
I don’t see much difference between you and AramaicFuse when it comes to following my edits. The difference is that he contributes to discussions, while you try to get my edits deleted because of your WP:POV. Wlaak (talk) 20:17, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
For reference, I am 100% unrelated to the account who just commented. I am also growing the suspicion that these accounts are created by the opposite party's POV (Surayeproject3's POV) to make me look suspicious and guilty. Wlaak (talk) 21:03, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

@Surayeproject3: without regard to how these accounts may or may not be related to one another, is there some action they are engaged in that you think is either problematic for Commons (someone replying to you after some interaction with someone else is not), or threatening to you (definitely also problematic for Commons)?
@AramaicFuse: we will work against this: what exactly are you saying you will work against? You wrote this on the Administrator's noticeboard, so as an admin I am asking—really more like telling—you to clarify your meaning. - Jmabel ! talk 00:13, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
@Jmabel I'll try to be concise and not run on with my reply. The main editor of this report, Wlaak, was recently indeffed on English Wiki for sockpuppetry [10] along a topic area that was given General sanctions [11] in May, partly due to his own participation. From the time of the main disputes, there were concerns of sock/meatpuppetry in influencing consensus that still exist on English Wiki, now including this absurd allegation of potential sock/meatpuppetry from my end or the end of other editors on the same Wiki (I was tagged in this after filing out this thread on B&P). There is also a sizable amount of off-Wiki evidence to suggest this editing began with the aim of using meatpuppetry to influence on-Wiki consensus, and from an inherently anti-Assyrian viewpoint at that.
One action in particular was my request for Filemover rights. I have been renaming files for some time individually and wanted to apply for the rights so I could continue without having to make requests every time. I ask the mod Ziv (who I've spoken with before) if they can check the request, and on the same day, Wlaak then goes under the request and leaves a misleading comment as if to insinuate I shouldn't be granted these rights. The reply underneath by AramaicFuse, who has never edited on Commons but has been disruptive in their own right on English Wiki, was a personal attack stating I don't deserve these rights. As you can see above, this has carried over to this B&P listing, including another user Osroene25. It is problematic for Commons to have disputes from another Wikimedia project carry over in a way that is negatively disrupting my usual editing, when I have had no issues prior, especially when there is sock/meatpuppetry that is highly likely involved. Surayeproject3 (talk) 01:04, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
@Surayeproject3: Yes, if that is accurate, I can see how that would be suspicious. I'm really not familiar with your work on Commons, so I think I'm going to request that Ziv (also an admin) take a look at this thread. - Jmabel ! talk 01:20, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
@Jmabel: Thank you for the information. However, I had to read up on it first, including enWP, to understand what it's all about. In summary: Wlaak first topic banned indefinite from all Assyrian/Chaldean/Aramean/Syriac subjects, later blocked indef for sock puppetry, @Surayeproject3 involved in edit war in enWP, which probably triggered the whole thing. Surayeproject3 contacted me in July about three files: User_talk:Ziv/Archive/2025#File:Kurdere_-_fo30141712180016_27.jpg. The question was actually just which of them contains incorrect information, so I started a topic that received no response and has since been archived. There were no further conversations between me and Surayeproject3 or other parties involved in the case described here; every now and then I moved a file that Surayeproject3 suggested for renaming. I wasn't aware of any differences between Wlaak and Surayeproject3 until Surayeproject3 informed me about the request for Filemover. The reason I didn't reply to the request is because I honestly didn't know what to answer. But it is clear, problems between two users are being spread across different wiki projects (enWP, trWP, Commons...?), and it's not entirely clear to me who follows whom, with or without the use of sock puppets. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 08:42, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
@Jeff G.@Jmabel@Ziv, just an FYI, I filed a CheckUser request on AramaicFuse and Osroene25 to see whether they are connected to Surayeproject3. Honestly, I think these “coincidences” are far too much of a coincidence for them to be my sockpuppets or simply share the same interests as me. In reality, I believe these accounts were created by the opposing party’s POV to “set me up” or make me look suspicious. If they were actually my sockpuppets or anyone else’s, I don’t think anyone would be so careless as to reply to the “meatpuppet” within minutes, with no prior edits on Commons, and then jump straight into the filemover request. However, I couldn’t file a CheckUser on English Wikipedia, so it had to be done on Common.
Here was the request. Wlaak (talk) 09:42, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
I also want to note that, at least from English to Turkish Wikipedia, it’s Surayeproject3 who has been following me and has tried to get me blocked on the Turkish Wikipedia as well, but fortunately failed. He has made the same request here on Commons that he did on Turkish Wikipedia, trying to find any connection between an edit made by DavidKaf and one made by me (Wlaak), without any regard for whether it actually constitutes a WP:BADSOCK. I’ve also mentioned this in the request I attempted to file on the English Wikipedia, which you can find attached to the message above. Wlaak (talk) 09:50, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
@Wlaak, I don't see any request from you here on Commons; you requested this on your discussion page on enWP and were advised to do so on Commons. COM:CHECK is the right place. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 10:00, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Uploaded over 20 speedy-deleted copyvios, received multiple warnings and a final warning. 8 days ago has uploaded 17 more copyrighted files, this time not marking their license possibly to avoid the files being deleted for fake licenses, as they were before. File:Vegan-humans2.png

  • I am requesting semi-protection for File:Vegan-humans2.png due to potentially coordinated deletion requests that appear to be influenced by a bias against vegan-related content. The deletion request is related to "plain text". I have requested a defintion of why this is plain text, it looks like someone then backed the deletion without explaining. This image is a valid graphic illustration, licensed under Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Public Domain Dedication, and does not match the average definition of plain text i found on google. It is clearly designed. Semi-protection will help prevent disruptive edits, preserving the integrity of the file page while allowing constructive contributions. If the situation escalates, a request for full protection might be considered at a later time. Thank you for considering this request. 02:43, 16th October 2025 (UTC) HomingHamster

  Not done The page looks out of scope to me: it is indeed "plain text" as the nominator said. The use of centering, color, and different typefaces do not change that, that is easy to do in HTML or CSS if needed. (Just for comparison, most text tables are also out of scope on this basis. & "average definitions" on Google are neither here nor there, what matters is Commons' practice.) No evidence of "potentially coordinated deletion requests": the sole deletion request is by Omphalographer, a very experienced user. - Jmabel ! talk 06:43, 16 October 2025 (UTC)

Block request for User:游學寶寶台中南屯館

Using a business name as your account name on Commons is not necessarily a violation of our account naming policy, though it would be on some sister projects. It's not obvious to me that there's anything wrong here. Their uploads appear to be exterior shots of their business, which are not obviously out of scope. I don't offhand see any particularly promotional content. - Jmabel ! talk 04:58, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
No idea…But they uploaded File:Official logo of 游學寶寶台中南屯館.png and deleted.--S8321414 (talk) 05:13, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

We don't usually take administrative action against a user over FoP issues, especially if no one has explained the issues to the user on their talk page. I'm probably not familiar enough with the details of FoP in Japan to be the one to explain to them; probably best if someone who knows Japanese would reach out. - Jmabel ! talk 04:32, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

Likely Vanderpumpstan socks

These accounts are claiming in file descriptions to be the two children of actress Lesley Joseph, and have uploaded seven photos of Joseph and pictures of actresses' signatures. Four of the photos had previously been posted to Joseph's social media account, years ago, at the same or higher resolutions ([17] [18] [19] [20]); another, File:Lesley Joseph and her mother Rebecca 2001.webp, was deleted last month after it was found to have been taken from a news website.

These look like socks of User:Vanderpumpstan, who has uploaded signature images and copyvios of Lesley Joseph in the past as User:4lyferr, and shown interest in the actress's children. Other Vanderpumpstan socks like User:SallyJaneSpencer have claimed to be directly related to the depicted subjects, in file descriptions, when those images had in fact been taken from other sources. Belbury (talk) 13:12, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

I'd also add User:Simon Dwain Kalavazides to this. This is an account created half an hour before User:Lizzy Littlejohn on 30 September that has reposted a lot of photos taken from https://instagram.com/simonmeets (Simon Kalavazides), claiming on Commons to have cropped themselves out of the photos. The Instagram user page has a message at the top saying Please ask my permission first before sharing my photos. The Commons user got started with some photos of Lesley Joseph and her co-stars, the same co-stars that Lizzy Littlejohn was uploading signatures of a few hours later.
One of Simon Dwain Kalavazides's uploads (File:Alun Lewis c. 1990s.jpg) has already been deleted as being a postcard image; I don't know if the user was claiming it to be a selfie they had cropped themselves out of?
The deletion request at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Lesley Joseph 2025.jpg, about the fact that one of their photos had been posted earlier on Instagram, received no response from User:Simon Dwain Kalavazides. They haven't edited Commons since October.
User:Simon Dwain Kalavazides has a message on their talk page from an IP visitor from last week that says:

This user is an imposter, pretending to be someone he is not. This person needs there profile deleted on here and blocked from downloading anymore images. And have current images deleted from commons.

This could be a message from the Instagram user. en:Talk:Linda_Robson#Linda Robson Picture also has a complaint about one of these uploads, File:Linda Robson 2024.jpg, being stolen, cropped and permission to use it is not granted. Belbury (talk) 16:19, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

Wow, 27 sockpuppeteers: Category:Sockpuppets of Vanderpumpstan! Yann (talk) 13:55, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

I found two more accounts who had uploaded photos of a deceased celebrity claiming to be a family member or partner who had taken the photo personally, where those images were crops or copies of photos that had been previously published in the press or social media. Again, ageing British sitcom stars.

Deletion discussion opened at Commons:Deletion requests/Photos of the Lyndhurst family. --Belbury (talk) 11:41, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Another to potentially block for impersonation under COM:IU: a single-use account claiming to be the daughter of deceased British actor Tony Selby, who uploaded a lot of low resolution versions of images of Selby that can be found elsewhere online, claiming to have taken the photos personally.

Often the issues here are they upload images from Youtube videos that are not tagged with a compatible license, or images that they find online about celebrities that they claim are their own work and pretty obviously are not. They do upload images that appear to be valid (meta data from a mobile device). The unabashed nature of the bad faith uploads tends to make me suspicious of almost everything they upload though.
