I'm going to shut down this community. I created it because I couldn't find a community for Comic-Con, but I just found one that is much bigger here:

Well, it looks like all hotels are now, effectively, booked for Comic-Con.

Let me just add what a miserable experience the on-line booking is. I must have gotten lucky last year because I got my second choice hotel fairly quickly and easily. This year was a complete nightmare. All my booking attempts kept timing out or dropping and sending me back to the begining. I lost my firts choice hotel at least 6-8 times. Then my second choice was filled, so I started looking at anything within a reasonable walking distance. I finally got a room, but only after dropping Thursday night. So now I've lost a day at Comic-Con and i'm several blocks away. And that took me 45 minutes.

Is there anyway to tell Comic-con that this process is broken and unreasonable. I was so stressed out I considered just not going. I've never had this much of a problem for any other convention. Why does Comic-Con have to make it so hard?

I got ComicCon update #2 in the mail today. Very exciting!

It does say one day memberships are available on the website, but I looked and can't find any information on them. I even walked through the online registration and no dice. Sorry moonchylde!

What are the one-day at the door prices?

I'm trying to do a cost comparison to see if it is worth the money for the multiday pass, when we probably won't be there for more than one, but just in case I'd like to go for two... I could.

But if the day passes are only 30... I can't remember from last year!

According the post card I just got hotel reservations will be available on the website on February 15th.

Here's what Expedia says is available. This is actually several screenshots, but you can get the same information by giving Expedia the address of the convention center and the dates. I wound up calling the hotel directly and am actually paying a little more than the quoted rates, so I guess Expedia really is cheaper. :)

So lets assume I'm now planning ahead for 2007... What is the best hotel to stay in for Comic Con? I'm looking for a conbination of proximity to the convention center, reasonable pricing and good late night people-watching or general hanging out.

So I created this community because I couldn't find one that already existed. And, honestly, as a somewhat new comic-con attendee, I wanted advice on things like where to stay and what to do. My first comic con was last year and I felt entirely over-whelmed and under-prepared. I hope to fix that this year.

Unfortunately, I seem to have already been out-foxed in regards to staying in a better hotel. Last year I made resevations pretty late and stayed in this over-priced hotel that was 10 blocks away. My feet and my wallet really hurt at the end of the day. I resolved to do better this year. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of waiting for the Comic Con website to post the hotels. I finally got tired of waiting and went to Expedia. Surprise! Everything that's close is already sold out. I guess no one actually WAITS on the Comic Con website. (sigh). Lesson learned. I now have a room that's seven blocks away. At least i'm closer than last year. :)
