All things considered, Hannish citizens did take the news that their leader has been a huge ass dragon this whole time (and now Officially So!) pretty well... Though I guess that after seeing The Horrors(TM) they probably went "Eh. Might as well happen"
"I'm sorry for lying to you. Though I cherished the advice and company of our beloved late satrap, I have been ruling this state ever since its foundation"
"Damn. Well, what is your idea about a new policy for taxes on foreign imports? Mmmh I see. Yeah no that is a sensible idea. Let's do this!"
(alternatively)
"I will use my dragon hoard (that was actually your secret savings account all this time) to help you rebuild after We All Almost Fucking Died"
"Cool! Let's build an orphanage!"
I figure that for the sharper ones their response was “Y'know, this really explains a lot.”
It wasn’t exactly a secret that there was a reclusive and extremely large dragon living on the island. Heck, the Radiant Host commanders seemed to have figured a good chunk of it out on their own, and the alchemists probably already knew about 90% of it.
I imagine for most Hannish who put thought into it, they’d just figured the big guy was their ace in the hole in case of an invasion and acted as a stabilizing influence that backed the satrap. I mean, nobody is going to argue with the guy who can say, “I’m sorry you feel that way. By the way, have you met my friend, the fuck-off huge dragon standing right behind me?”

Just showing off my smol lizard mechanic.
I don’t care what people say. Dragon Age II is awesome and Merrill is adorable.
"What do we do, boss?"
"We go on lunch, that's what."
"But what about the..."
"The dragon will leave when she's good and ready."
"Shouldn't we, I don't know, get her to move?"
"...Do you want to go up there and poke a dragon?"
"..."
"Gyros?"
