And fandom

I signed up for [community profile] comics_bb. We'll see if I finish anything. Such Shaping Fantasies sadly isn't eligible since I've posted parts of it public already, so I need to decide what else to focus on (and keep going with that anyway). I'm trying to figure out what is most likely to get an artist: Lex/Kon, girl-Kon, or multiple Kons.

I'm also thinking of doing another round of [community profile] sv_remix. Because. It would be fun. If other people would play.

{cough} Before you do SV Remix... I should mention that we were planning on the next Clexmas challenge to be a Clex remix. ^^;;; (I didn't even know there was a sv_remix... sorry!)

We've pretty much just finished mucking about with the rules, though I might go look at yours now if you don't mind me getting some more ideas. I was debating whether to put it up this weekend or to get the CLFF one out first and then the Clexmas one.

If you want to reopen SV Remix, we probably shouldn't do the Clexmas remix. ^^;

Cool. :) Funny how we're going on the same thoughts!

Though I have to admit, I'm also quite liking the idea of doing a Clexmas Valentine's like this: http://muncle.livejournal.com/957609.html Except I noticed that svmadelyn is doing her own again too... but she's not as much into the clex world anymore and I still like the idea of a clex special one. I'll have to jump on that one if we do it, though, not a lot of time left. Do the remix after.

Is there a way of making DW communities cross-post to LJ communities? It would make both Clexmas and CLFF so much easier...

CLFF is split between the DW and the old yahoogroups. I'm trying to make it more active on the DW, but we still discuss stuff about "what to do" on the yahoogroups. Only there's not a lot of discussion there either. I really need to try and make that more active... Fruitbat just made a really nice promotion banner, though, and we're going to try the episode challenge again. Give that a run and see what we can do.

svmadelyn said she preferred if I directed folks to hers instead, so yeah. I still like the idea of inside our own fandom, but that's okay.

yahoogroup is at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CLFFgroup/

Join with an email address you follow or have forwarded (doesn't have to be your real one) - let me know it's you and I'll approve you right away. ^^

I'm going to start discussions there now and see if we can't drum up a bit more interest for this episode challenge. I actually started writing my own story for it finally, lol. (Still waiting on the Plans beta for the next Conner story - she's been busy.)

Heh... in the honesty bit? I never expected her to say no. I thought it was polite to ask, but I was completely taken aback by the "well I can't stop you but I'd rather everybody join in the multi-fandom one". Ah well. Maybe next year or something. ^^;

This is what we were thinking of for the Clexmas one:

------------------------------------

New Year Challenge: Remix – making the Clex live again, in your own way.

Clexmas Twist, this is an *open* remix, not a reciprocal one.

1. The Offering:

All Artists/Writers who have completed Clex work in the past can offer up to three fics/art/vids of theirs for the remix. You do not have to sign up to do one in return. Note, if a talented person does both fic and art and vids, there can be three offerings of each type – three fic, three art, three vids, etc.

Offerings will be taken up until XXX. Please comment here with links to your offerings. On XXX, we'll do a compilation post of all offerings and will open them for claiming by the participants.

Please be aware that because we will probably have many more offerings than currently active writers/artists that will be participating, there will probably be offerings unused. We do appreciate all offerings and are grateful for your contribution to the Clex fandom. :)

2. The Remixes:

When you remix a work, it is not a direct copy, but a retelling of a story, the way there are several versions of "Beauty and the Beast" or "Dracula". Take the basic plot elements, and reweave the story into something fresh and new. A couple of classic fandom rewrites are ... from ... and ... from ... . Pick out the things that you liked about the story and put them into a different world. You can do this literally, with an AU setting, or by changing aspects around. Don't use the same words (that's plagiarism, even in a remix), and try not to go over every point of the story directly. Take the thought, and run with it anew. For an art piece, you could take the setting, and then find new poses and background for it. Things like that. We're working with ideas, and playing with the worlds, with the original creator's permission.

All creative folks who want to play in another sandbox for awhile can sign up to do a remix, even if you haven't put in an offering for one in step one.

- All remixes must be Clex or end in Clex (can be pre-slash too, but there must be no endings of pairings of Clark or Lex with somebody else).
- Remixes can cross mediums. You can remix a manip to a fic, or a fic to a vid, or a fic to a fic, or whatever inspires you to the work.
- Offerings can only be claimed once per medium. (i.e. a fic can only be claimed once for a remix for a fic, but if somebody else would like to do art, they can do so.) If you claim an offering, please complete your remix! Think of it as a gift for the offerer and the fandom.
- Remixers can do more than one work, however, you can only initially claim one. Come back for a second after you've finished the first.
- Completed remixes can be posted at any time during the challenge. All remixes are due by XXXX (three months)
- After this challenge is over, do NOT do any further remixes of any of the works. They have been offered for this challenge and this challenge only – it is not a blanket invitation for all time. If you really really have an idea about something, contact the creator and ask them directly, but don't assume.
- Have fun. :)

Seeing your rules, yeah, there's a few more things I need to put in.
- Co-created works can only be used if both/all creators sign up to be remixed. WIPs are also off-limits, as are works that are already remixes of things by other people. That's important to note!
And min/max.

I like your note about If you are being remixed, please remember that it's not about you. Just as fans come up with all kinds of ideas based on canon, so the remixer can come up with all kinds of ideas based on your work. Inspired by your work. But it's not a reflection of you, it's a reflection of the remixer. There are no guarantees. You may hate what they make. You may love it. . I'll probably incorporate that. Well stated.
seagull2eagle: (sv - want to know)

[personal profile] seagull2eagle 2013-02-14 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. For items being submitted as options for remix, there will be no min/max. For the items being turned in... um, well, I'd planned on a 500 word min, 500x500 px min, but... {grimace} Maybe I won't make minimums there there either. Let the muses dictate.
