Note: This is a personal opinion and my interpretation of the content I have consumed from the Ghostbusters franchise until now.
I'm kind of worried about the people who dehumanize Dr. Egon Spengler just because he doesn't reciprocate Janine's feelings in Ghostbusters 1984. He's not interested on her, and that's fine. There is no need to say that he doesn't understand basic emotions, women or having a romance with Janine would have helped him to have a "human development" in order to deny his obvious absence of romantic feelings for her.
We can't forget that it's the most popular ship for Egon, with 485 fanfics on Archive of our Own, followed by Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman and the self-shipping made by several fans. In addition, it's canon in other Media types such as the cartoon adaptations and some of the comics.
My main point is, why are there people trying to justify the ship as canon in the 80's movies by using the most forced interactions that happened in the movie, novelization and original script from 1983? And even considering it as canon because of those deleted scenes? If they wanna talk about "canon couples" in the movies, they have Janine/Louis and Dana/Peter. I even saw someone calling "cringe" to the ones who ship OC x Egon Spengler because they consider Janegon as canon...
Two of my friends who also love Ghostbusters saw the interactions between Janine and Egon as one-sided, like when you are forcing someone to like you by invading their personal space and trying your best to keep the conversation going on. Even if you pay attention to Egon's facial expressions through the film, you can see he's completely indifferent. Did that make him uncapable of having relationships or understanding others? Of course not.
Harold Ramis didn't like them as a couple… Imagine making canon a couple in which one of them sees the other as "cute in an intellectual way", "absent-minded guys needed to be guided and she loved to guide", "she will take him off his shell", "she will be accepting his strange personality and odd hobbies". Would you like to be with someone who sees you like something that need to be fixed in order to be socially acceptable?

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.
Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?
Saw a sharp increase in my follower count after posting this. The legitimacy of it is driving me nuts so I also feel the need to say that you can follow anyone on here regardless of whether you’ve interacted with them or not. People like the above mentioned blog are exceptions. Perhaps they themselves think they aren’t and therefore will act like they aren’t, but they are, trust me.
Just follow anyone you wanna follow. The worst thing that can happen is maybe getting soft-blocked by the other person, but if they do soft-block you, then they were never that worth following in the first place.

I'm not sure how anyone sees anything there when every interaction I've seen of them there's absolutely no reciprocating from Egon's side that comes even remotely close to romantic interest.

I get shipping can be free for anyone and you can ship whatever, Iβm not going to stop or bother anyone about it but it can never and will never and has never even been intended to be hinted at being canon or possible..
