Yesterday
waylay and I made honest-to-goodness yarn (I am forced to admit this is the correct term for it despite sounding horribly American to my ears). It doesn't look like much because it's undyed and so all a uniform boring white colour, but you could knit it! and stuff! if you could knit, which, let's face it, you're probably better than me.
waylay has been at a war with its own parking lot and noise curfew (and no mulching), and brought me back some pretty purple wool which I am completely failing to spin.
PS there was no champagne.

And the Wars are SO MUCH FUN, but the basic thing available is Dust, with a side order of Dust. And naughty parties, but mostly Dust. (Former SCAdian, would rather hang with the goffs now)
OH and speaking of Goff - I'm coming for Whitby and a week after. I REQUIRE company! M and I will be in Whitby from Wednesday to Monday, then I'm hoping to be in Cambs for another week. I might have Americans on Tuesday/Wednesday but otherwise am free.

Date: 2010-08-27 03:30 pm (UTC)BTW - news of my visit should apply to you as well. I'm determined to see the new house! And gamboling bunnies! I'll email you and O before the end of the weekend.
I should see if I can get some of the local wool/yarn my friends are crazy about as gifts. The fall farmer's markets should be ripe with them this year. That is if you're knitting too, ms. Busypants!

Date: 2010-08-28 06:23 pm (UTC)The year I went one local camp had a pesky guy and his gong, which he GONGED when drunk at 3am. One guy of my camp stole it and hung it on the East Kingdom gates. The penalty the Queen extracted was - epic. :)
And then there was the Squire from An Tir. Who had talented - everything. *sighs*
Now I'm bummed I fell out with my SCAdian friends! Although the goffs are prettier and I get to hang out in Cambs/London instead!

Date: 2010-08-28 08:00 am (UTC)I think the wool was some random combination of British Wools, as Merino is more expensive, but I can't really remember. *shrug*

Date: 2010-08-28 09:37 pm (UTC)I impulse bought a kind of broken one cheaply on ebay. The wheel does spin (But also needs reglueing) but I'm missing something at the top (not sure what, not had a spinning wheel before) which'll need making at some point.
Am very keen on learning to spin and make yarn :)
