Cold and Rain...

Must be my birthday, LOL. It never fails. Rain or snow on the 27th of March.
As promised, here is my favorite song...ever.  No leeway, nothing.  I fell in love with it at 7 and still love it now.  I've only ever heard it on the radio ONCE.  I was with Mom and Gran in the car being drug to my spring concert for school and I heard the last half of it.  Loved it and waited to find out what it was and hear it again... It took 2 years for that to happen.  A friend copied some songs to a tape for me and filled the leftover space with the rest of Garth Brooks' "In Pieces" album.  Shear, dumb luck.  But there it was...track # 7 "The Red Strokes".  I knew it instantly,  The melody, the words,  I felt like it was so familiar even then.  I find it unsurprising that an Aries picks a song about passion., fire, uncontrol. I get lost in it every time.  It was the reason I started teaching myself guitar (which I Suck at, I have no coordination, Ding ding ding ding, ping "you #&*$&#*^&^&*#%&*#%^&*$&*(&%&&^&!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is a pretty fair description of my "lessons")  It video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb6… is totally out there but it did win video of the year.  My head is too mushy from it to go on more, but I'll post the rest of ththis month's playlist when my computer is fixed but I have no ETA.

    "The Red Strokes"

It's that time of year...

My laptop has died AGAIN.  It just isn't getting power.  I got a different cord and still nothing.  I think it's the power connection inside the computer.  I have an appointment with a tech guy today at 1:30 after my Latin class.  My music posting is on hiatus I can still do my birthday post on the 27th but that is it at the moment. Wish me luck.

Hehe...got distracted by Age of Mythology

This is for the 5th.  I'll do the 6th later.
In the Heart of a Woman by Billy Ray Cyrus
http://www.mediafire.com/?ytlf3xxv…
Yes...THAT Billy Ray Cyrus.  I much perfer his slow songs over the party songs.  "Some Gave All",  "Cover to Cover", and "Words By Heart" are all favorites that I need to acquire for my hard drive, but I've always loved the melody and message in this one.  It's one of those "advice" songs like "Somebody Will" and "Chiseled in Stone" with a little bit of self flagration like "What Mattered Most" and "Today's Lonely Fool" thrown in.  The music rocks on it.  The steady into hints at building force but you don't quite expect how it goes.  It has a constant awareness to it even when it seems to disappear.

Note to self...the month old wrist sprain isn't up to lifting the laptop unaided yet.  Must stop trying.  Maybe wrapping it a little as a reminder would help.

An odd place...

...is where I've been lately.  I have anti-social tendencies to begin with and from time I don't want to deal with people period, but this has been the longest.  My sleep cycle has reversed to the point I sleep when someone's home.  I addressed Christmas cards and couldn't make myself send them even with Mom's prodding.  I may send them eventually.  They are starting to bug me which is good.  I've been logging into YIM invisibley which is an improvement.  I even chatted twice in the last couple weeks.  Kat had kittens before Thanksgiving and though I have pics, I haven't scanned them in.  She had four, lost one soon after, and Quinn (Tarquin) died suddenly last week of unknown causes.  Prynn (T'Prynn) and Lee (Tarleton) are their usual selves.  They take after their mother, especially Prynni. With next week being Spring Break, I may get the pics up.  I'm rambling.  Let's move on to what nudged me into posting.

I had an idea months ago to do this.  Since my taste in music is a little offbeat, country mostly but generally older or obscure stuff, I decided to pick 31 of my favorites from my library and post one everyday in March for my birthday in no particular order, but reserving my favorite for the 27th.

Here's the first four to catch up and a little commentary.
"Don't Go Out" by Tanya Tucker and T. Graham Brown
http://www.mediafire.com/?ijebcydx…
One of my favorite duets ever. I love the music and the lyrics are powerful and the two come together amazingly. It's a classic tale of mutual, unrequited love with intense jealousy mixed in.  One part "I know just what she'll do. Her kind is never true.  He can't take care of you like me." always gives me chills.
She's best known for "Delta Dawn", but I like "Strong Enough To Bend" and "Pride of Franklin County" better, though I'm not sure if I have either one on CD.  "I Won't Take Less Than Your Love" is a classic, though not often played like most of her duets.
He's totally underated.  "Darlene" probably is the most played (and easiest to find), but he's best known for "Wine Into Water" (still looking), a pretty intense song sometimes refered to as the alcoholic's prayer.  I've only got two other of his songs in my library, but both are top notch.  "Hell and High Water" (a guy offering a friendly shoulder when you know he wants more) and "Love is Blind" a duet with Suzy Bogguss I found a couple of weeks ago on a compilation of various artists that I picked up for a couple hard to find songs. I'd never heard of it and wasn't sure what I'd think.  I'm now wondering why in the hell, I've never heard it before.  It's jewel.  I love a play on words and these two are so good together.  I'm actually wondering how it didn't make this list.

"She's a Miracle" by Exile
http://www.mediafire.com/?v5njdeim…\
My two favorite bands made this first group.  I'm drawn to harmonies as you'll probably notice; both groups are known for them.
Exile writes most of their own stuff and some for other artists.  "It Ain't Easy Being Easy" (listening to it now actually) by Janie Fricke and Alabama's version of "The Closer You Get" and "Take Me Down" became major hits and all get 5 star rating in my Media Player.
J.P. Pennington can write and sing a love song and make you feel every note.  I had trouble choosing, especially against "Woke Up In Love", but I like the piano on this one.  I could easily recomend every one of theirs.  With titles like "I Could Get Used to You" and "Super Love" you know they have to be interesting,

"When She Cries" by Restless Heart
http://www.mediafire.com/?z1zjjijn…
God, what can I say for this one.  It speaks for itself,
"When she cries, at night, and she doesn't think that I can hear her. She tries to hide all the fear feels inside. So I pray, this time, I can be the man that she deserves, 'cause I die a little each time, when she cries"
It's the ultimate tribute to the woman behind the man and wanting to repay her. It is a little unusual for them because it isn't the normal guy on lead vocals but it was a good choice.

"Holdin' A Good Hand" by Lee Greenwood
http://www.mediafire.com/?d22x2gxm…
I love interesting imagries, plays on words, and driving melodies and this is the hat trick.

Lee Greenwood is best known for "God Bless the USA", but he's got a couple duets out there I love. "Hopelessly Yours" makes me laugh.  I keep looking for my copy of "Dixie Road" to upload it but no luck so far.

Let me know what you think.  If you're interested in some song I mentioned and I've got it, I'll upload it for you.  Feel free to prod me into interacting. It might actually work.

An odd gift to the flist from my mom...

I mentioned to Mom that some people were posting recipes, she gave me one to post.  I hope I have it right.  It's pretty easy, but I don't think I've had it.  Mom said it is a good holiday treat.

Cherry Angel Food Cake
1 can of cherry pie filing
1 Angel Food cake mix

1. Mix the cake mix and can of filling together and pour it in a loaf pan.

2. Bake according to the directions on the mix box.

3. Slice and enjoy

Mom is considering trying it with crush pineapple. I'll let you know how it goes.

The klutz in me strikes again

Long story but I think I can shorthand it.
I have worn Express Rider "Trivette" cowboy boots as my everyday shoe since I was in 8th Grade. I started with a 9 1/2 and long ago settled in at a 10 1/2 (in Men's). My most recent pair were falling apart so I started hunting a new pair which normally means simply keeping an eye open at Walmart for a week or 2 'til they get my 10 1/2s. Well...it seems that they will no longer be carrying them so we have been madly hunting for one last pair of Trivettes so I would have shoes that I could wear socks in to be able to go try on shoes to find new shoes. After hitting several Walmarts with no boots (but I spotted 3 model kits I'm going to have to get) we were getting panicked.  I needed boots and it was getting cold here.  Out of sheer luck I found a pair at the Walmart at home Sat. so I started breaking them in this morning.
The left is never a problem. Seams are right where I need it to flex.  The right is a very different story.  I've never had a right shoe that worked for me as designed.  My foot bends side to side instead of up and down so it takes a couple days to get the boot to fit right. Until then I can't really feel how I'm stepping.
This morning as I was on the steps, locking up to leave I misstepped. fell forward, skinning a spot on my finger and as I discovered later, knocking a hole in the side of my right, upper third molar when my jaw hit the door jamb.. Yay...I had a crack running up the side of it from accidently backhanding myself about 5 years ago. It  doesn't hurt, but it is sharp and odd feeling. I think I may have to find a dentist and have it filled.
I've NEVER had dental work other than cleaning and the occasional grinding. I've never had a cavity, but I break teeth fairly regularly. Top half of the outside cusps of the second, left, lower molar and the tip of a canine have been broken off.  All 8 incisors have been chipped at some point and 2 could use a little grinding right now.  I' ve been looking around to see what can be done. I don't like needles.  I put enough holes in me by accident. I make a practice of not doing them on purpose unless there is no other option.
Anybody know of something along the lines of tooth spackle?

Happiness meme, cause I'm happy.

It won't last but I'll enjoy it while I can.  I saw it on

sowritesauds's Lj and will thus blame her.
6 Things That Have Made Me Happy

1. I have a new Hard Drive and a 5pm appointment to have it put in. Yes, I'm hyper now.  I'm on the verge of getting a lappy fix and ending withdrawl.  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. I found a Soviet Tank Commander figure I like. http://www.coloradominiatures.com/…
3. The book Soviet Rifleman 1941-45 was released just when 'm working on one.
4. Scale Model Contest with Mom.
5. Watching my cats.
6. A bus shelter in cold weather.

A few things

*Interesting local story-http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/2007102…

*I went to Best Buy again. They have some Hard Drives in transit but they will neither hold one for me nor call me when they come in. Anyone interested in starting a betting pool on how many times I have to go in there with no results before I cause bodily harm?

*I'm posting my address for those who want it in a filtered entry.  Who wants it other than willow_wand? I'll add you to the filter.

*Mom and I finally went to the IPMS meeting in Cincinati after years of saying we were and not going.  We were going to the Indianapolis one this last March until Mom had here accident.  We did really well getting there. We went past it but we knew it so that wasn't bad.  Coming back though Mom made a right on Colerain instead of a left and we were majorly lost but we found our way back without help!

*In reference to the above, Mom is SOOOO my enabler for my plastic habit. I swore to myself I'd pass on kits and focus on references and aftermarket stuff (decals, resin bits, photoetch, etc).  I bought NOTHING of the sort.  There are TWELVE new kits (well new to me) in the closet.  Mom paid for all of them.  I knew when I saw 3 mounted Napoleonic figure kits that those would be coming home with me (the guy threw in a French Infantryman in the same series for free).  Mom likes horses.  At least we didn't fight when I opened them up to look at them.  I looked at the man and Mom wanted the mount! The USS Indianapolis, a Air to Air Missile assortment, and 6 airplanes round out the  bunch. (2 MiGs, an Oscar, Kannenvogel, Red Arrows Hawk and the Storch w/ Kugelwagen I'd been wanting.) And yes she knows how many kits I have.  She has a printed out list.

*Why is it that, as many ship models get sold, only one major company makes a good match for Anti-fouling Red and I can't find it either in a shop, at the model show, or one of the largest mail order model shops in the states?

*Have a couple of pics to scan and post when the lappy is back up.  I'm love to make the one into an icon with a comment on normalcy on it.  (Romulus was playing in the pond.)

*My pencil bag full of color pencils is hiding in my room somewhere and it's making me crazy.  It's hard to do color research when you can't color code notes. They are there some where.  Oddly enough, looked at WalMart and didn't see the 72ct Roseart like I've got, somewhere... Okay I've vented enough.

Courney Wells, Butt of the Universes Jokes since 1984

Everyone knows the laptop is sick I suppose.  I'm going through family tree withdrawl.  I'm doing random relative searches on the SSDI for FUN!  For those of you who don't know what that is it is the Social Security Death Index.
In the middle of July when the Lappy experienced Blue Screen of Death, I broke out the Recovery disk, but since I didn't want to erase everything I hunted down my copy of XP to try running the Repair Function, Safe Mode, WGA...
Nothing...
Last Fri. I went over to Tech Services here at the school and they run a diagnostic.  I have bad spots on my hard drive and now that I thing about it, I propably always have.  I use the following as evidence:
* My Decal Maker software wouldn't run the English Language pack, but would the French.  It probably went on a bad spot and wouldn't read.
* The Bond Wizard from the treasury won't update pricing since I updated the software. Again, that file is probably on a bad spot.
* One campaign on Age of Empires won't run.
* InterActual crashes everytime I try to use the menu to watch Hidalgo.  Media Player does fine.
SEE A PATTERN??? Little files that don't run.  I updated Windows and turned it off to go eat, and it never came back.  Seems the updated WINSRV was written on a bad spot.
I was given 2 options:
1 Reformat the disk, lose everything and have the same problem down the road.
2 Replace the hard drive and transfer what files are good if they can be gotten off.
Welllllp.....since I don't need it, need it this semester, best take care of it now and since it's an 80GB, let's upgrade it.  I checked online and at Staples and Best Buy.  Staples was a fiasco. More on that later.  Best Buy had a 160GB with a 3 yr warranty that was perfect for it. I double checked with their tech guy to be sure it would work. It would.  I got an item ticket with the stock number, price, and description at 14:57 on Tues.  Talked to Mom and she put the money in my checking yesterday since I had a balance of $3.62.  I went in at 11:30 this morning and they were SOLD OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some days it isn't worth shooing the cats off you to get out of bed.
As my Uncle Eddie said "If it wasn't for back luck, you wouldn't have any at all."
There aren't any coming in Fri. and I hope to to be at the scale model show in Sharonville Sat.  Wish me luck.

Now for Staples... I stopped in Sunday afternoon since we were there and I wanted to see what they had, so I ran it.  Actually it was a slow and deliberate limp, since I missed my bus transfer last Wed. and got to walk the 40 blocks home in the drizzle and picked up a pair of blisters for my trouble.
I get in there and find what I'm looking for, but I want to talk to somebody about upgrading. As I'm looking over the various models, I hear and odd noise and look up...Some simpleton that works there is SKIPPING down the front aisle, holding a container of cheese puffs over his head.  He is being chased by TWO female co-workers one my age and one older, in her 30's maybe.  My eyes then fall on a fourth employee hanging up merchandise.  I catch her eye, point to the sign that says "for more information ask an employee", and motion her over.  She looks at me, blinks a few times, and ignores me.  They have the hole in my foot to thank for their worthless lives.  If I'd been up to it, I'd have beaten them all for worthlessness.  I stormed out and several other people did as well in the 20 mins I was there.  If the place goes under, it is their fault.

I'm bored out of my mind.  The copy of Star Trek Legacy for PC that is an early Christmas gift is mocking me. I actually feel weird doing something and saving it to a jump drive.  It's like I'm cheating on the lappy.  I'm weird. DEAL WITH IT!  Both the Hiddensee and the Soviet figure I'm working on are AWOL.  I think I set the container down to help carry in groceries and the cats have done something to it.
My options of what to do are basically:
*Pokemon on Gameboy
*Work on "Trackside Conversations"
*Cross stitch kit of a Carousel Horse started in my jacket pocket
*Work on my scale model website
*Research colors, etc for my missing models for when I find them.
Just suggest something from the list or something else please.  I'm double checking my stash inventory for Sat. Like I need to.  I know everything on it. SAVE ME!!!
