Brothers of Destruction arise!

PPV digitals - Brothers of Destruction 22 November 2015

From WWE.com:

The Brothers of Destruction def. The Wyatt Family
BY ANTHONY BENIGNO

 photo homepage_zpsvewxcvav.png

ATLANTA — Thunderbolts and lightning are very, very frightening, but all the pilfered powers and sinister incantations in the world couldn’t save Bray Wyatt from his own personal reapers, The Brothers of Destruction, in a Survivor Series confrontation that’s been brewing and brewing since WrestleMania 31. There, a solo Wyatt had called out the then-MIA Undertaker and expected to win in a walk, paying the price when The Phenom showed up and reclaimed his honor at The Show of Shows.

The New Face of Fear only waited to strike back once his Family had been both reunited and expanded, but was his mistake targeting Kane as well, replenishing the devil’s ranks to their full strength as well? Was it a strategic error for Wyatt, who had his pick of family members to pit against The Brothers, to pair himself alongside his most battle-tested lieutenant Luke instead of newfound colossus Braun Strowman? Or did The Eater of Worlds simply bite off more than he can chew from the outset in his attempt to depose the devil?

It was apparent, given the pomp and circumstance with which The Phenom was introduced, that The Wyatts were eager — perhaps too eager — to ruin The Deadman’s anniversary. Erick Rowan rushed the ring after The Phenom’s legendary entrance, was immediately met with a double-chokeslam from The Deadman and The Demon, and was not seen again. Harper stepped up in his partner’s place, and Wyatt, looking to finish his war himself, called Strowman off and stepped onto the apron to team with Harper.

 photo BOD_Wyatts 2_zpskjufo7h1.jpg

Apart from a few moments in which The Eater of Worlds tried his hand against the storied Superstars, Wyatt largely left The New Face of Desolation to shoulder the battle against The Brothers. That, unfortunately, led to an Old School and apron legdrop to Luke Harper that The Phenom delivered with the agility of a Superstar celebrating his 25th day in the ring, not 25th year.

Given the momentum of The Undertaker, it didn’t take long for Strowman to turn from spectator to participant. After Kane tagged in and found himself forced to the outside, The New Face of Destruction hurled The Devil’s Favorite Demon over the commentary table, instigating an ominous face-to-face with big brother that indicated payback would be served for the assault against Kane. With Kane weakened, Wyatt made like his buzzards and went to pick the bones, setting The Demon up for Sister Abigail. The Big Red Monster had some fire left burning in him; he Chokeslammed his way out of The Eater of Worlds’ signature maneuver, leading both spent Superstars to summon their partners for relief. Unfortunately for Wyatt, Harper didn’t fare better against The Phenom.

The New Face of Desolation found himself put so hard on his heels that Wyatt had to come to the rescue. That landed both men’s throats in The Phenom’s hands, at which point Strowman interfered again, breaking up the double chokeslam in a moment of vindication that was short-lived. The Wyatts sent Undertaker tumbling over the ropes but he landed on his feet and immediately turned his attention to Strowman. After dispatching Wyatt & Harper, Kane joined his sibling for a double-chokeslam to The New Face of Destruction through the commentary table. Payback had been served.

 photo BOD_Wyatts 3_zpscobvjgza.jpg

The aftermath of that earth-shaking attack was as impressive a performance as any four of the Superstars involved had put together, and for a moment, it really was either team’s match. While the referee attempted to restore order, Wyatt pounced with a Sister Abigail to The Deadman and Harper, the legal man, went for the pin. Kane broke the count up, but found himself cut down by the former Intercontinental Champion’s discus clothesline as a result.

The end result was The Brothers of Destruction laid out side-by-side, immobile and spent, as The Wyatts circled their victims. Harper slithered towards The Devil’s Favorite Demon and The Eater of Worlds contorted himself into an ominous spider-walk toward The Phenom. In a ghastly echo of WrestleMania, both Brothers sat up in sync and dispatched the stunned Wyatts with a pair of simultaneous chokeslams. Only one thing remained, and as Harper reeled with one foot in his grave, The Phenom took hold of The New Face of Desolation and put him all the way in with a Tombstone.

One, two, three. The Deadman lives. The Brothers of Destruction roll on. What’s next for The Wyatt Family?

And that's how you celebrate 'Taker's incredible 25 year anniversary at Survivor Series!

No video, of course, since it's a PPV. But hey, you can catch the replay on the WWE Network any time! (Love the WWE Network - saving me a fortune in PPV fees!)

But WWE.com does have video of 'Taker's entrance, seeing as it's his 25th anniversary. Check it out here!

And remember that the special for 'Taker's 25 years is on demand on the Network now. Planning on catching that myself!

There's a lot been said about this, on all sides, and Paul Heyman continues to troll everyone quite amusingly about how Bork broke The Streak. It is what it is.

For what it's worth, I was gutted. I wasn't ready, but then selfishly I don't think I was ever going to be ready for it. I guess my days of watching WrestleMania with my 'Taker rosaries clutched in my hand and around my neck as I watched another match in his incredible legacy are over.

50 Shades of Kane

PPV Digitals - Kane 6 April 2014

From WWE.com:

The Shield def. Kane & The New Age Outlaws BY Zach Linder

NEW ORLEANS — Everybody needs a hero. And sometimes those heroes come from the unlikeliest of places. For the last year and a half, the entire WWE roster has incurred the wrath of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns. But a lot can change from one Show of Shows to the next, and inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday night, these Hounds of Justice stood victorious as lauded heroes for this post-Attitude Era.

For some, it feels like just yesterday that The New Age Outlaws and Kane — along with X-Pac — represented a cadre of beloved competitors. During the late 1990s, few grapplers were as popular as Road Dogg, Billy Gunn and The Big Red Monster. But with their true degenerative and rebellious spirits long gone, it was The Shield that took to Spearing these three veterans out of their suits and as far from the boardroom as possible.

The Shield wasted no time, interrupting the D-O-Double-G’s familiar spiel and descending from amongst the capacity crowd. Once the bell rang, it was all about the men in black. Kane did his best to unload on his opponents with furious punches, but the bout quickly evolved into a chaotic brawl. Few could envy the referee assigned to officiating the contest.

Reigns sprang from the floor to nail a dropkick to both Outlaws at the same time as they were draped over the ring apron. Moments later, the powerhouse of The Shield landed a Superman Punch, which Rollins followed by coming off the turnbuckle onto Kane with a spectacular diving somersault over the top rope to the ringside floor.

With momentum decidedly against them, the corporate posse attempted to retreat to the locker room area. But before Kane and his partners could make their way up the ramp, Ambrose and Rollins sailed through the ropes and onto their rivals outside. From there, it was Reigns’ time to shine, not an uncommon sight over the past few months.

The Shield’s enforcer unleashed massive simultaneous Spears onto Dogg and Gunn before turning his attention to Corporate Kane, sending the Director of Operations soaring out of his slacks. From there, a pinfall was all but inevitable. Rollins and Ambrose hoisted an Outlaw each to Reigns’ arms, and the trio executed what can only be referred to as a “double-Triple Powerbomb.” It was Rollins who scored the one-two-three, but this was a win felt by all in attendance.

Blink and you missed it, but this was as impressive and decisive a victory as ever by The Shield. And on The Grandest Stage of Them All, to boot. On this night in New Orleans, Rollins, Ambrose & Reigns proved to be more than just Hounds. They’re bona fide heroes. And you can believe that.

First, a disclaimer: I did not watch this PPV. I am glad I didn't spend my hard-earned cash on it. I had no desire to buy the replay to see a few minutes of Kane. And the rest of the card was ... was there a competition to see who could book the worst PPV possible? Because this one might have won it.

Next point: obviously The Wyatt Family are being positioned to take on the "supernatural powers" angle of the Brothers of Destruction. Because not even 'Taker or Kane - who was in the very first Elimination Chamber match - has ever magically appeared in the damn thing.

Shawn Michaels did emerge from under the ring in order to lose 'Taker the Chamber match in 2010 ... a match apparently somehow expunged from the records, as the article about it no longer exists on WWE.com. But that was just hiding under the ring and coming up through the grate.

No, The Wyatt Family pulled a 'Taker or Kane - lights go out, lights come back on, magically in a locked structure.

Now, why they aren't running with this supernatural angle with the two guys on the roster who have history in this area is beyond me. It's just plain stupid, but whatevs. Triple H seems determined to run the product into the ground, and 'Taker and Kane will, eventually, both retire. Using them to help get these guys more over would seem to be smart, but no one ever accused Triple H of being a brain.

[/rant]

Anyway! On to the meagre digitals!

So yes, while that few minutes might have been nice, it certainly wasn't worth the money the rest of the crappy PPV would have cost me.

PPV digitals - Kane 26 January 2014

From WWE.com:

Okay, so apart from one teeny tiny error in there - Kane didn't wear dress shoes, he had on his wrestling boots under his suit pants (big thanks to utssq for spotting that one!), that's the tale of the tape. They've dragged a paunchy looking Batista out of retirement to get mileage out of his role in the new Marvel movie, and put him over a bunch of other guys far more deserving so he can be in the main event at WrestleMania. Yay.

Now, here's some more interesting stuff from WWE.com:

Collapse )

So, what does all of this mean?

Well, apart from the shittiest booking in all of creation, three facts stood out for me:

1. During the match, someone on the announce team stated clearly that this was Kane's 15th consecutive Rumble. Despite the disclaimer up there in the Rumble facts about him not competing in the Rumble in 2012, they are obviously ret-conning history and giving claim to Kane's long-standing record of consecutive Rumbles, and treating his 2012 match on the Rumble card as legit - because they know that not including him in that year's 40 man Rumble was a fuck-up of monumental proportions. Hell, they could even exclude that year's Rumble as not counting because it was a 40-man debacle - I don't give a fuck. So long as Kane keeps his "consecutive Rumble streak" alive, it's all good with me.

2. Roman Reigns broke Kane's record for eliminations in a single Rumble. And while a part of me knows that's actually one of the pieces of good booking in this abomination of a Rumble, I am a little sad. What would have made it better would have been for Kane to have been one of Reigns' eliminations. Instead, they went with Punk. More on that later.

3. When Punk eliminated Kane without Kane getting a chance to eliminate anyone, I figured that was going to be this deal going forward. If Kane's in the Rumble, he doesn't get to eliminate anyone, because they don't want him to beat Shawn Michaels' record. Well fuck that! Because the recap clearly says by eliminating Punk, he's tied the record for most eliminations total! Even if it's not an "official" one as per the stats above.

Right! Now I've got that off my chest, let's go to the pictures, shall we? Pictures are the best part! ;-)

But the fun doesn't end there!

Oh no, now that there's the WWE App ... seriously, has anyone even got this fuckin' thing? Because everything that's supposedly an App "exclusive" ends up on the fuckin' website anyway.

I digress. Apologies for the tiny thumbnail, but oh man, really?

 photo Exclusive_zps0cee3dca.png

I mean, really - like I wasn't going to click on this video!

 photo Exclusive2_zpsbef75a57.png

Which is here ... it's only twenty seconds or so.

Starting about here:

 photo vidgrab_zps85b6f998.png

Twenty seconds of pure unadulterated porn. The deep voice, that fuckin' six pack of abs ... I'm surprised he didn't spontaneously knock Renee Young up by exuding sheer male pheromones by the truckload through just breathing!

Then, of course, someone had to make the comparison ...

 photo beforeandafter_zps376f92d7.jpg

Well duh! Like we couldn't see that for ourselves!

But it did produce something that I found on the See No Evil 2 movie page on Facebook, which I have of course turned into an icon! (Appropriated credited, of course!) ;-)

 photo 50ShadesofKane_zps459999e0.jpg

In conclusion: while there were many things I wasn't happy about at the Royal Rumble, the Kane pornage did not disappoint! ;-)

The aftermath on Raw the next night though ... well, we'll get to that next post!

From WWE.com:

Miz calls out Bray Wyatt and Kane returns!

 photo resultspage_zpsb2b2acde.jpg

MIAMI – The Miz wasn’t cleared for a match at WWE Hell in a Cell, but he was ready for a fight with The Wyatt Family. Instead, what he and the WWE Universe got was one Hell of a surprise return from one of WWE’s most monstrous figures.

During Sunday night’s WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff, Miz tracked down SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero in an attempt to have a match made for later in the evening that would see The Awesome One battle Bray Wyatt. However, because of the attack Miz suffered at the hands of The Eater of Worlds and The Wyatt Family on SmackDown, he was not medically cleared to compete, and Vickie refused to make the match.

Determined in his quest for retribution, The Awesome One made his way into the AmericanAirlines Arena to call out Bray Wyatt. However, responding to the challenge from an undisclosed location, Bray Wyatt informed The Miz that it pained him to see his potential challenger “broken.” During Wyatt’s diatribe, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan attacked Miz from behind.

Facing another brutal beating , Miz received a shocking assist as fire erupted inside the arena and Kane made his return. The Big Red Monster sent Harper and Rowan fleeing from the ring as The Awesome One and the WWE Universe looked on in shock. However, the WWE Universe was doubly astonished when Kane turned toward The Most-Must See Superstar in WWE History and almost put him through the canvas with a devastating chokeslam.

Following his actions, Kane tweeted for only the second time ever:

 photo tweet_zps9df447cd.png

Although Kane’s return was an unexpected surprise at WWE Hell in a Cell, a bevy of questions remain with no insight provided by his tweet. Where has The Big Red Monster been since being carried off by The Wyatt Family at SummerSlam? And why did he direct his fiery fury from those who brutally wronged him at The Biggest Party of the Summer to a Superstar who of late has shared a fate similar to his own? The Miz and the WWE Universe deserve some answers…though asking Kane the questions will undoubtedly prove to be Hell.

Second ever Kane tweet ... and I missed it! Had to go look on my Tweetdeck and there it was:

 photo Kanetweets_zps86a512f4.png

#As #You #Can #See, @KaneWWE #Has #Mastered #The #ArtOfHashtagging! ;-) (Right down to capitalising each word, to make it easier to read - who doesn't love a smart monster?)

Collapse )

Oh and for all those "experts" out there who say Kane made his debut at Hell in a Cell? Wrong - Kane made his debut during a Hell in a Cell match. The very first Hell in a Cell match, between the Undertaker and Mankind. The Pay Per View was Badd Blood, and the year was 1997. You're welcome.

Bray Wyatt def. Kane (Ring of Fire Match) BY Kevin Powers

 photo SShomepage_zpsf981d26b.png

LOS ANGELES – At The Biggest Party of the Summer, Wyatt proved that he may indeed be the slayer of demons by defeating Kane inside a flame-engulfed squared circle. It didn’t matter that the Ring of Fire Match was designed to keep The Wyatt Family from interfering, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan eventually found a way to ensure Wyatt's victory.

 photo SSresultspage02_zps27e0c6d5.jpg

Though Kane was born in flames, the fire didn’t faze Bray Wyatt in his debut match. Nevertheless, The Big Red Monster was relentless in his quest for retribution against his opponent. The Ring of Fire’s purpose and power was displayed early on as Harper and Rowan tried to enter the ring, only to be prevented by the flames that shot into the air. The elemental danger of the environment was also on display – every time Kane or Wyatt executed a powerful maneuver, flames would suddenly erupt.

Kane maintained momentum throughout the battle, dominating the ambitious and cryptic newcomer as Harper and Rowan frantically tried everything to get inside the ring. An attempt to get a Kendo stick to Bray Wyatt failed when the stick caught fire and one of the firefighters at ringside extinguished the flaming foreign object.

With seemingly nothing stopping him, The Big Red Monster continued to dismantle Wyatt. Following two huge chokeslams, The Devil’s Favorite Demon channeled his brother, The Undertaker, and gestured for a Tombstone Piledriver. However, Harper and Rowan finally overcame the flames using an asbestos blanket and were able to attack Kane.

Attempting to fight them off, Kane was eventually overwhelmed and decimated by Bray Wyatt’s powerful family members. The referee was powerless to stop the match – a victory could only be determined by pinfall or submission. This allowed Wyatt to grab Kane and execute his signature maneuver to secure the victory.

Following the match, Wyatt retreated to his rocking chair and watched as Harper and Rowan used two sets of steel steps to smash Kane' skull. The lantern-wielding Superstar, with Harper and Rowan in tow, then carried an unconscious Kane away from the STAPLES Center.

But before we head into the digitals, there were some cool promo shots for SummerSlam this year, both of which I nabbed from the WWE Facebook page:

 photo SummerSlamposter_zpsa2f736ef.jpg

 photo Kanebringingtheheat_zps2f0334e2.jpg

(They're over-doing the second one - versions of that appear for every wrestler for every new PPV, it seems. "I stand with #Cena" for the second to last PPV (fucked if I know what it was called, I haven't bought a PPV or watched a show since Kane went on hiatus), and now it's "I am with #Punk" for Hell in a Cell. So they're getting you to post the one you like best - since they do these for freakin' everyone on the card, apparently - so you're advertising their PPV gratis and they're teaching you how they want you to hashtag wrestlers' names, so they can get them trending on Twitter more readily. To which I say - fuck you, WWE, and the horse you rode in on.)

Oh, and I should warn you - it's image-heavy under the cut.

Collapse )

 photo sfm22aftermath_zpsbff449b7.jpg

So, the question remains - what happened to Kane afterwards?

WWE.com attempts to give an answer:

 photo officialFB_zpsdb45aa1b.jpg

After suffering the savagery of The Wyatt Family, where is Kane? BY Jake Grate

Even a blazing ring of fire couldn’t stop The Wyatt Family from unleashing a brutal beating on Kane at SummerSlam. Following a hard-fought match that saw Erick Rowan and Luke Harper storm the flame-encircled ring — with the aid of an asbestos blanket — to overwhelm The Big Red Monster and help Bray Wyatt seal the fiery victory, the “Eater of Worlds” withdrew to his rocking chair, where he watched his massive followers viciously batter Kane’s head with two sets of steel steps.

After pounding Kane into unconsciousness, Wyatt’s menacing sycophants dragged the former WWE Champion’s limp body away, out of STAPLES Center, and he hasn’t been seen since. But where has Kane been taken? What has The Wyatt Family done with him?

The Devil’s Favorite Demon could be recovering at a local trauma facility, as he was forced to after the clan’s shocking debut attack on Raw on July 8. Or, perhaps more sinisterly, the mysterious trio could have taken Kane to some clandestine location, such as their creepy backwoods compound.

On the other hand, the monstrous 7-footer was born in fire and has returned from sadistic attacks at the hands of The Wyatt Family and many other dangerous Superstars in the past. Perhaps he is healing and regrouping before launching himself on a blistering trail of vengeance.

In the wake of such a devastating assault, however, is it possible that Kane has decided to leave WWE altogether? Even though he is one of the toughest, most durable Superstars in WWE history, the thrashing The Wyatt Family put on him would surely beat many Superstars into retirement.

Although the questions of The Big Red Monster’s whereabouts and condition remain, it is clear that The Wyatt Family has forced Kane to “follow the buzzards” into the unknown.

I guess we'll find out soon, huh?

Just ... don't expect it to make any sense, okay?

Payback 2013 digitals - Kane

From WWE.com:

United States Champion Dean Ambrose def. Kane via Count-out BY Anthony Benigno

 photo PPVhomepage_zps74e15ffc.png

CHICAGO – Facing Kane in his second defense of the United States Championship, Dean Ambrose walked through hell, fire and brimstone and came out smelling like a rose on the other side, standing tall at WWE Payback and taking advantage of a time-honored rule to keep his star-spangled championship from the gloved clutches of The Devil’s Favorite Demon.

Thrust into the last-minute match by Vickie Guerrero following a Disqualification loss to Kane on Raw, Ambrose was on the defensive from the start in his inaugural pay-per-view defense of Old Glory, using his speed to avoid the hammering attacks of The Big Red Monster and getting his licks in where he could.

His opportunities were few at first. Kane spared no animosity in his pursuit of Ambrose’s championship. Perhaps he felt somewhat liberated without Daniel Bryan at his side, or perhaps the urgency of the match – the U.S. Title remains the only championship Kane has not won in WWE – spurred him to action. But whatever his motivation, Kane was in rare form for the contest, throwing heavy punches and tossing Ambrose around at will in the bout’s opening minutes to literally bring the champion to his knees.

Ambrose’s quick thinking kept him in the running after he targeted Kane’s ankle in an attack that left the big man at a disadvantage from which he never managed to recover. With the former World Champion compromised, Ambrose unleashed his quickness and cruelty, battering Kane and trapping him in the ropes, pausing only for an attempt to mimic The Undertaker’s legendary “Old School” maneuver.

The disrespect to his brother galvanized Kane into a final offensive frenzy, regaining the advantage before tossing Ambrose through the ropes and preparing him for a Chokeslam through the Spanish announce table. But before The Devil’s Favorite Demon could send Ambrose crashing to the cold Chicago ground, the Cincinnati scrapper retaliated with a DDT onto the floor that left Kane unable to reach the ring in time to beat the referee’s 10 count. Ambrose was (understandably) all smiles with his Count-out win and United States title retention, but given Kane’s history, the champion’s own dose of payback may yet follow.

From WWE.com:

The Shield def. WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No (Tornado Tag Team Match) BY Kevin Powers

 photo OfficialFBpreview_zps22ca52e6.jpg

ST. LOUIS — At WWE Extreme Rules, The Shield proved that they thrive in chaos and that their unorthodox style is arguably the most dominant force in WWE. Riding the momentum of Dean Ambrose’s United States Title victory earlier in the evening, Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns defeated Team Hell No in a Tornado Tag Team Match to capture the WWE Tag Team Championships.

A throwback to the formative years of tag team competition, tornado rules promotes the very type of anarchy that has come to define The Shield. The argument can be made that the Tornado Tag Team Match stipulation played in favor of “The Hounds of Justice” — all four competitors are in the ring at once, allowing for the unorthodox intensity of Reigns and Rollins to flourish unchecked. Although the experience and chemistry of Daniel Bryan and Kane has no doubt attributed to their success, The Shield has dictated the where, when and how their actions will affect those who oppose them.

Inside the Scottrade Center, Kane and Daniel Bryan wasted no time taking a fast-paced offense straight to Reigns and Rollins. But the true nature of the contest soon surfaced, allowing Rollins and Reigns to shift their attention back and forth between The Big Red Monster and Bryan. Fighting back, the WWE Tag Team Champions displayed the type of teamwork that has bred their success and nearly ended the black-clad duo’s momentum.

However, the method to the madness of Reigns and Rollins allowed them to throw Kane from the ring before delivering the final strike to Bryan. With the match rules allowing unchecked double teaming, The Shield proved to be the dominant duo in St. Louis.

Since their debut at Survivor Series 2012, the treacherous trio has been virtually unstoppable. History will look back on Extreme Rules 2013 as an evening that belonged to The Shield. Earning their first taste of WWE championship glory, there may indeed be no stopping the brand of justice wrought by Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns.

Well fuck. May 19 turns out to be unlucky again for Kane.

Collapse )

As per usual, being a PPV, there's no match video, but there is this segment from backstage.

Which is a minute and a half of Kane, all pumped up and glowing after the match, and somehow seeming even more half-naked than usual. Being the voice of reason!
