So I've had my braces off for... oh... 6+ years. I haven't worn my retainer in about two years, and before that, my retainer-wearing was pretty spotty anyway. My teeth have shifted a bit, but the retainer still goes on fine (it is actually my second one... the first one broke and I got the 2nd one after the teeth had shifted some).
I was all gung-ho about starting a nighttime-retainer wearing regimen but the boy now has me paranoid that this could actually make my teeth WORSE (by "loosening them up" and making them shift around like crazy).
I'm supposed to be wearing a retainer for my top teeth, but I haven't worn it in over a year (bad, I know.) Obviously, it doesn't fit. Is there any way I can get it to fit again without having to replace it?
Hello, I'm 19 years old and I just got braces last week. Yesterday I noticed that my right, front tooth clicks/pops when I pull on it. It also pops when I'm eating sometimes. The tooth does not feel loose when I move it from side to side, but when I pull down on it I can feel and hear and click. Is this a normal side effect of braces or something I need to call my orthodontist about?
I finally got braces may 18th. i had two upper teeth and a wisdom tooth pulled out last week tuesday. my orthodontist said they will discuss pulling more teeth in the future when things are straightening out. my teeth are still sore and im over my teeth getting pulled. i have another appt on the 12th. new color yay.
so basically ive been wanting braces since i was 11 or 12 and im 18 now so thats been a long time. im just glad and looking forward to two years from now. my bf is just a little weirded out by my braces for more then a couple of reasons.
so what is all this terminology for braces stuff? i just know brackets and bandss and wires thats all.
i guess im lucky becuase my ortho is the youngest to graduate school in the united states. thats why his office is so nice looking i guess.
i love my braces. thats pretty much all i wanted to get across.
there are two doctors at my orthodontics office: dr. ladner and the sadist who $%^&?* up my braces when he put them on. at my adjustment yesteday, i realized that i accidentally made my appointment with the sadist instead of ladner. after yanking out archwires and stabbing me with them, he started talking to me about wearing rubber bands on my TONGUE so it will sit in my mouth properly. now, he clearly has me mixed up with another patient, so im not really worried about any of this, but how exactly DO YOU WEAR A RUBBER BAND ON YOUR TONGUE?!?! have any of you heard about this? do any of you have to do this? should i just pay more attention when im making future appointments?
Hey, I'm Lauren and I've had braces for a year and seven months, I have a question. My friend had braces and smoked, when he had his braces removed his teeth had changed colour from where the brackets had been, I was just wondering if anybody here smokes and has had the same thing happen? I smoke occasionally, unfortunately, and don't want it to happen to me, if you understand what I mean?
Also does anyone have any tips for when the metal starts to stick out the sides of the braces..? Thanks :D
Hello! I'm Alexis.. I'm a sophomore, and I'm 16. I just got my braces on.. yesterday! I had spacers on for a week, and my teeth do hurt. I had braces on my top teeth in 5th grade, but we went broke and my insurence didn't cover them anymore. And, my ortho didn't know what he was talking about and totally screwed my mom over with the financial stuff, and that kind of stuff..So I got them taken off and then here I am, 5 years later, with them again! They don't really bother me, because I knew what it was like to have them before, but it's just my teeth aren't aligned right, and they spacers and braces make me not be able to have my teeth touching when I close my mouth, so it's hard for me to chew [and kinda annoying]! Also, there are sores on my cheaks from where I keep biting them. My toungue too. It's crazy. I have to get a baby tooth pulled soon, also. I have them on every tooth except for the ones in the front because they have to fix my top teeth to make the braces fit!! My ortho is really rough, too.. it's horrible, but I'll get over it! haha. He said I'll have them on for about 20 months, so I guess that's not too bad!! I also have my lip peirced. It's kinda hard to have it with braces, but I don't have it in during school and stuff so it's not really bothersome. If it ends up doing that, tho, I'll just take it out and make sure the hole doesn't close so when my teeth are uberawesomelooking I can have it to make my smile even better!

Ah the thing i've been waiting for, for ages! My braces were removed on the 11th, and I can finally smile without being embarresed!! :) I had my braces on for exactly 2 and half years(got them june 11th 2003) and it's been a long proccess, before the braces I had all kinds of stuff for about 2 years....
Hello, my name's Jamie and im new here, but i've had my braces for a little over a year now.
Im pretty much a rebel when it comes to rules with braces... I eat whatever I would normally eat without them, including gum and caramel candy. ;D Im supposed to be wearing my rubberbands, but I rarely do. I actually am wearing them right now, purely because I really want to get my braces off soon.
Although I do admit, braces do AMAZING things. My teeth were horrible before. I had two rows of teeth in the front, and now my teeth are perfectly straight, without having to get any teeth pulled. My orthodontist can't even believe how fast my teeth moved, and how great they look.
Im hoping to get my braces off pretty soon, because my teeth are straight, but I have I tiny underbite. :/
