The Patron Saint of Storytellers
Often flies away
Just before he tells you how it ends.

If you keep on calling,
He comes back another day
He brings you half the ending
And you bring the rest to him.

 

In the stories, the little Jackdaw was humiliated and brought down, first for strutting in borrowed peacock feathers, and in a much later adventure, for stealing a jeweled ring from a Catholic cardinal, who rained curses upon the head of the thief. 

My story ends differently -- with a lesson learned, perhaps, but not regretted; and a treasure it pleased the Lord to allow the bird to keep. 

So, this is what I was DYING to get posted last night.
