Opening scene. Oh, hello boys! Haven't I seen you somewhere before? Yeah, still same old voices. It looks kinda funny that they're having Supernatural written on the left corner during the little "22 years ago" trailer...

Guys, camping in the woods. Two of them playing video games. They say "You're cheating." - "You suck."

In German they say "Man, du bescheißt doch." - "Nein, du bist schlecht." I liked the first bit, good translation for "You're cheating," "Nein, du bist schlect." just doesn't have the same feel as "man you suck" though.

So, guy outside... Hm. I'd be way too scared if there's things moving in the woods to even go outside to take a piss.

The Wendigo is even scarier on my TV than on my laptop. *shivers*

Supernatural is still written on the corner of the screen. That's irritating.

Sam by the grave. Poor thing. Ahhhhhh, that horrible, horrible voice!! How can a guy's voice be so emotionless in such a situation?

In the car, when Dean offers Sam to drive, Sam tells him that he never asked him that. What did Dean say? But I'm asking you now? Did anyone catch what he said in German?

"That Haley girl is quite a pistol!" Oh Dean, why does he have to call her a nag/pain in the ass, rather than a pistol

Shoot first, ask questions later - is translated as "seit wann handelst du vorschnell und ohne Fragen zu stellen?" (since when do you act hastily without asking questions? Ouch, lost second meaning much?

Dean's too pretty for his own good.

I always loved that scene with the guys in the bar with the Lynyrd Skynyrd (spelling??) song playing in hte background. It's the old laptop! How I missed it together with Sam's Season 1 hair.

Liked the old man who survived the Wendigo. For once they found a good voice for someone. Hm, scary.

Corporeal, hm. They translated it as "körperlich" which, quite frankly is the right translation for corporeal, but unlike corporeal, körperlich is a fairly normal word. Nothing geeky-excuse-me-professor-like about it. *sighs*

Gah, even the whole bitchface-like exchange of Dean asking Sam "What?" and Sam saying "Nothing" + bitchface is totally free of emotion. *cries* Why, why, WHY???

Oh sweetheart, I don't do shorts. That's one of my favorite Dean lines ever. *sighs* Unfortunately, "Tja, ich trage keine Shorts" sounds nothing like that, even though it once more is the correct translation.

That guy being eaten by the Wendigo is even more yuck when on the big screen.

Cocky!Dean is ♥ He's even a little funny.

Heee! M&Ms! *wants*

I actually liked that they kept "skinwalker" for skinwalker and didn't call it a "Hautwanderer" or anything equally creepy. When the Wendigo imitates the human voices, it actually sounds a lot more real than it did in the OV. That's good.

I miss Puppy!Sam.

Oh, commercial break.

We're about halfway through the episode and the yellow writing of Supernatural is still there. That's really, really irritating.

You know what, especially when they're angry, like Sam was just discussing heatedly with Roy, the guide, it shows how wrong those voices are.

Kinda funny also that the word Wendigo is stressed differently in German. It's WEN-di-go instead of Wen-DI-go.

I'm glad that they didn't translate the whole "saving people, hunting things, the family business" as badly as I feared. I can live with how they made "family business" into "family affairs". It sounds so much better in German. Hunting things was translated into "hunting the evil" which is weird, but okay, I guess.

Judging from the whole Sam/Dean exchange and the way Sam talks, you wouldn't ever know that Sam just lost someone he loved.

Hm, Wendigo twisting Roy's neck. Bye-bye Roy. There he is again, falling form the tree.

Hurray! M&Ms. Dean is the best Hansel ever to Sam's Gretel.

Somehow, I always found that kid brother of Haley always annoying. That pale, psycho kid, but in the German version, he doesn't really bother me at all. Maybe it's the voice. *shrugs*

Even though I know that Tommy's going to wake up all of a sudden, I always flinch.

Another break. Gimme my Sam and my Dean back!

It's kinda weird that Dean is using the formal "you" (Sie, instead of du) when addressing Haley , whereas Sam is using the informal version. I didn't pay attention to what Dean said before, so this might have been a slip or it's just very awkward.

So Dean goes out and offers himself as Wendigo supper. I can't really what he said in English, probably SOB a few times, I feel kinda weird about Dean calling him a Scheißkerl. It is one of the correct translations for for SOB, but it doesn't seem crude enough, you know? Sometimes, I just feel that the tonality is not quite right, even though the translations are correct. *sighs* I think sometimes it would just be better to take a step away from the literal translation and go with what the show actually wants to express.

Last scene then. Sam is driving. \o/

I miss those Season 1 shots of the boys driving the car with awesome music playing. We haven't really had anything like that for Season 3, so it's nice to get back to it.

Next week, we're watching Dead in the water.

"Hautwanderer"
HAHAHAHAHAHA sorry, I had to laugh really hard at that. Once again, I guess I'll just stick with online watching, though I would probably give commentaries like these when watching a Dutch version xD

Your comments are so witty. <3

From: [identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com

I'm glad they did not call it that way. I mean, they're calling the episode Skin "Haut". That's sad.

And yeah, you better stick to watching online.

Thanks, glad you're enjoying the commentary. :D

From: [identity profile] pegadasnalua.livejournal.com

My guess... next week "Tot ins Wasser"? *dies laughing*

I can't wait for commentary on that one!

From: [identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com

*laughs* Close.

It's actually called "Tod im See" - "Dead in the lake". Yay commentary!

Once again, so glad that I'm deaf. *g* But omg, how much this sucks. Especially the emotionless synchronisation. *shudders*

You know, the deaf community would be very much in favor of just subtitling any foreign series like they do in the Netherlands or Scandinavia, because this way we (as in, deaf community) wouldn't miss out on so much of what's currently 'in'. Because, German series subtitled for the deaf? Lindenstraße. Schloßhotel Orth. Das Traumschiff. In aller Freundschaft. Etc. Etc. *rolls her eyes expressively* (No cool series like Buffy, and yes, Supernatural, Smallville, Grey's Anatomy, ER, what-have-you - nothing of this gets subtitled. Peachy! Not even Marienhof, Verbotene Liebe, GZSZ etc. - though they did that for a short while with Verliebt in Berlin, but who can stand watching this crap? Not me!)

From: [identity profile] pegadasnalua.livejournal.com

Sorry to butt in, but is GZSZ translated something Good times, bad times? In that case, I think I saw it and it's awfully alike to a soap opera here that goes by the exact same name (but in Dutch). Okay, that was me being random. *cough*

From: [personal profile] ninamalfoy

Yeah, GZSZ is the abbrevation for 'Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten'. :-)

Glad to hear that soap operas are the same all over the world! *winks and grins*

From: [identity profile] pegadasnalua.livejournal.com

Here it's called 'Goede tijden, slechte tijden'. If I had paid more attention and had put more effort in German class, I'd now be watching GZSZ just to see the similarities xD

I love your icon, by the way <3

From: [identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com

That sucks. At least for you guys, there's online transcripts and you can choose whether you want the original or the translated version.

Though I must admit that it's a definite Armutszeugnis that only those Oma-Serien are available. O.o

From: [identity profile] amcw177.livejournal.com

I caught the last ten minutes or so of that ep. But I already had to endure the entire season 1 in German because I watched it with my mom when it aired on Premiere.

I'm used to their (still awful) German voices by now. But some translations still HURT. *sighs*

And: Yes, on the driving scenes. We haven't had much of that in season 3 yet.

From: [identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com

Brave you! My brother has premiere, but then I never bothered have him tape it for me. I wonder why... *laughs*

Sometimes, I just feel that the charm of the whole show is missing, the banter and teasing. It just doesn't come across at all.

We even didn't have that many classical driving scenes in Season 2 either.

From: [identity profile] amcw177.livejournal.com

The good thing about Premiere is that they air all the new shows in English as well :) But my mom doesn't speak English, so... meh.

True. But maybe it's just because we know what it SHOULD sound like. For someone who's never seen the show it might be just fine.

Hm... Well, that's because they freaking TRASHED THE CAR *cries* And just for the record: I saw the truck. Sammy should pay more attention to the ROAD. Yep. I wonder if the Winchesters even have legitimate driver's licenses because don't you have to, like, take lessons for that? And maybe drive around with your parents a bit? I doubt daddy took the time to do that...

Erm. What were we talking about? :D

From: [identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com

Oh really, do they? That's neat!

Yeah, I guess you're right. If we never heard the original voices, who knows what we'd think then. When we were younger and watched German-speaking TV we never moaned about the voices either.

Sam was too busy worrying about Dean to watch the road. You have to understand! Worrying about Dean is serious business. And hm, not sure whether either of the boys has a valid driver's license. You'd also have to settle down and all that. So it's not unlikely that they'd not have one.

*laughs* Could I maybe snag your icon with credit? It's the perfect icon for my Supernatural on my TV day!

From: [identity profile] amcw177.livejournal.com

Hm. Interesting. How do we even know their names are Sam and Dean Winchester? Actually, they have nothing to prove that...

I think I'd be kinda depressed if I didn't even have ONE single ID that states my real name so I could prove that I am ME.

May explain Sam's constant emo. He probably had troubles getting his application in at Stanford :D Oh, which name to use?

Sure, snag away :D

From: [identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com

*laughs* We don't! For all it's worth, they could be Frank and Heinz Meier!

They could have birth certificates. That would work, I guess.

May explain Sam's constant emo. He probably had troubles getting his application in at Stanford :D Oh, which name to use?
Heeeee! *laughs*

*snags*

From: [identity profile] amcw177.livejournal.com

I wonder what it says on Sam's birth certificate then?

Name: Samuel But-I'm-pretty-sure-the-yellow-eyed-demon-is-my-daddy Winchester
Mother: Mary
Father: undecided

They should have taken a DNA sample from the YED before he... I don't know, imploded I guess.

From: [identity profile] benitle.livejournal.com

Yeah, all people suitable for DNA tests on the quest to find Sam's real parents are dead. Mary, John, the YED. That sucks. ;)

From: [identity profile] amcw177.livejournal.com

If they keep killing Sammy's daddys we'll never find out. CSI should investigate.
