If we're not supposed to eat animals, how come they're made out of meat?*

Sickle's Random Points:
  • Yesterday I saw the most hilarious sight. I almost wished I'd had my camera, but then I doubt I would've been allowed to take one, or would've had the guts to do so. On my way to and from work, I pass by a mysterious corner with a permanent jeep and two soldiers in camouflage with bullet-proof vests and rifles. They're always there and they won't say why. Yesterday, waiting to cross the street at that very corner, was a pudgy man with black glasses and a camouflage shir. Oh, the ironic contrast!

  • I've watched more guest-starring-Mark-Sheppard Battlestar Galactica episodes and okay, I'll admit I like the show. Not all the time, but I really like Lee Adama and Patchy - sorry, Saul Tigh - as well as Cylon Six and Gaius. I particularly enjoyed the courtroom episodes that ended season 3.

  • That last may have something to do with the fact that I love it when Mark Sheppard's characters shout. So far as I can remember, they all have, and man, he roars and it's adorable. And awesome. He'll hunker down and his face'll just do a perfect angry-O-with-scrunchy-eyebrows. Oh, the squee.

  • But most of all I love Romo Lampkin. This is not just because of who his face is. The writing, the character's history and psychology, I just... The tiny little detail about him taking care of his ex-wife's cat, which he claims he hates but loses his shit over when it dies, and the story of how he lost his wife, whom just a few episodes before he'd given this whole gorgeous speech about how much he hurt without her... I love this character and all his lying, theiving flaws. He's a person.

  • It is hot. It is very hot. It is over 37 degrees hot. It is does-not-go-below-thirty-in-my-room-at-night hot. It is oh-gods-this-headache-is-kililng-me hot. It is I-will-rub-this-wet-rag-over-me-forever hot. *melts*

Okay, there's this thing and even though it says "click through for the zip" I seem to have gone blind because I can't see any through to click and thus no zip and then my face goes all :( Help?

While we're on the "Sickle's useless at figuring out not-really-so-complicated things on Tumblr", how to I put in a user icon? I don't even know what the things are called on Tumblr... Oh, I feel so internet-illiterate.

This is why we can't have nice things*

I'm currently watching Leverage (or rather, Mark Sheppard's episodes of) and the fandoms are bleeding together again. For one, Mark, who's in everything, so that's expected. Well, his suprise Mandarin wasn't, and oh it made me so happy to hear him speak in Mandarin. (Oh, Badger!). Then there's Angel's Lindsay (whose long hair has to go) and Supernatural's Jake (my favourite, by far). Speaking of Lindsay and Jake (and no, I don't know their Leverage names), they're my bro-OTP for the show. Seriously, they're like Ryan and Esposito! D'aw!

Alright, so I was going to flail about Misha's stint on Ghostfacers which was hilarious and unfilicious but my flailing is now of a different kind because all the links are gone. Collapse )

In other news, this fanart crossover of mine has 177 notes. *flails* Ahem. *more flailing* See, I love this about Tumblr. I don't need to pimp out my stuff - just tag it - and people like and reblog, whereas on Livejournal I'd have to pimp out on a number of communities - feeling like I'm spamming everywhere - and gods only know when the last time I got a pingback was... So yays Tumblr!

I'm a bit better today, but the past few days have been pretty shitty in the emotional department, all Social Isolation Monkey and Random Crying and Anxiety and Extreme Boredom. Seriously, I've been going crazy.

I've been sunbathing, watching Firefly, and editing old unfinished stories for the anthology I'm working on for my ex-supervisor. Not much else happening apart from the, y'know, mental meltdown.

Oh, and I've petted some cats. That was nice.

The names were not burned along the wall*

Wow. I haven't posted in a week. What that primarily means is that the Links of the Day is going to scare the bejeezus out of you, but it also means there's some catching up to do on events in Sickleland.

This past week I finished Grave Sight and Grave Surprise, the first two books in Charlaine Harris's (she of the Sookie Stackhouse books) series revolving around Harper Connelly, who can sense corpses and see their last living moments. Collapse )

I've also gone a lot to the cinema because there's a Spanish film festival going on. Collapse )

On Friday mom and I were supposed to go to a concert in a church, and in fact we were sitting in the pews with the concert just minutes away froms tarting, when her heart started acting up. Collapse )

I've been madly focused on a fanvid which I never even meant to make. I just couldn't get Iron and Wine's Walking Far From Home out of my head. Collapse )

I recently got an email from Person in Organization, following up on his, "your CV is right up my project's alley, let me see if we have place for you to do an internship" promise. I have an interview - "a short discussion" - with him tomorrow, and I'm really keen on this opportunity because it's all about what I studied in my Masters. \o/

I'm also on holiday until Wednesday \o/

I'm past two weeks in Sniffles and Sneezes of Doom :(

When Google Fails Me: I'm setting up a pdf of a selection of my stories for my supervisor, and working through author's notes, adding links and so on. In one chapter of a story, I reference a metaquotes - or possibly a comment on a metaquotes, which, yay.

Goddamnit, I can't find it on the internet to put in the url. This is driving me crazy! (Yes, I am that nitpicky.) I figured out that the quote has to be older than December 2005, but any googles give me only my own post about it. So after having skimmed through half of 2005, I'm going to start at the begininng (2002) and head on from there. I will find it even if it kills me. Grr.

Watch me not care*

Yesterday's meet-and-greet at Organization went well, even if my brain flatlined a few times and I found myself unable to string words together without stumbling over them. Apparently talking to someone I don't know makes me forget grammar and vocabulary in any language now. The person I spoke with gave me some suggestions - basically just to email people directly involved in projects I'd be interested in, saying, "hi! I'm here! if you ever need anyone! hi!" - and will circulate my CV around.

Today there was a nation-wide transportation strike, which meant I woke up an hour early to catch the last metro and waiting outside in the cold until I could get in the office. I started writing an SPN fic while I was at it, because apparently I can't finish fics. *sigh* Then, to get home, I decided to walk the hour back instead of wait around for four hours for the metro to start up again for a brief shining moment, or try and squeeze into any available bus and take three hours to get home like last time.

The rest of the day I spent working on a variety of fannish projects and watching Dharma and Greg. I was going to watch Paranormal Activity 2 tonight, but I figure it's a touch too late for that now.

In other news, my right eyelid's been twitching on and off for the whole day now, and it's really annoying. The Internet says I probably need more sleep, less caffeine, or less stress, to which I say, fat chance.

Being kept very busy co-touristing Rome. Yesterday we went to the Pope's Urbi et Orbi, today we went to Subiaco, tomorrow's Castel Gandolfo, so it's been pretty busy. Christmas came and went in food and good times are still being had. I'm not doing even half of the things I said I would when I had a little free time - such as writing Louisiana Hoodoo or working on That Fanvid I've Been Working On For More Than A Year ye Gods - but at least I'm working on the Time We Saw A Miracle fanmixes, so \o/
