| Berit was born on August 9th, 1976 in Chicago. She lived in Norwood Park - on the Northwest side of Chicago - with her parents and two older sisters. Her baby sister, Adeline, was born shortly after Berit's 6th birthday. Berit attended elementary and middle school in Chicago, but when her father moved to England in 1991 to care for his ailing father, she followed suit. She attended high school in London and graduated from Cambridge University with a major in Criminology and a minor in Computer Engineering. After graduation, she came home and worked with the Chicago Fire Department while going through Police Academy training. In 1999, Berit became a uniformed Chicago PD officer and in 2000, took the FBI entrance exam. She passed with relative ease and worked in the Chicago field office on their Computer Crimes taskforce. In 2004, she took a job at the Los Angeles office working Major Crimes under the tutelage of then Senior Agent Don Eppes. In 2007, after helping recover Colby Granger from a barge where he was being held captive, Berit was promoted to Senior Field Agent and now currently sits as a member of Don Eppes' team of agents. |

| DA Bhavna Shakti Dawson: Berit's mother, who was disowned by her parents for having a son before her marriage to Berit's father and refusing to agree to an arranged marriage. She is currently serving her second term as Chicago's District Attorney. Cpt. Austin James Dawson: Berit's role model and father, who instilled in Berit from a young age everything she knows about police work. Originally from England, he moved to the United States at a young age with his parents and stayed to attend college in Chicago after his parents moved back to London. He has been the Captain of Chicago's 25th Precinct - Homicide division - for twenty years now. Ravi Anshu Veda: Berit's older half-brother she has never met and does not know exists. He was conceived in India and unlike Berit and her sisters is full Indian. He currently lives in Imphal - capital city of the Northeastern Indian state of Manipur - as one of the theatre actors. Devi Priyanka Dawson: Berit's older sister who works as an art authenticator in New York City, but travels a lot. Devi is the only one of the four sisters not to follow in the "family business" and as such, is estranged from her father and sister Adeline. Berit and Sitara are the only ones she really speaks to. Dr. Sitara Basanti Dawson: Berit's oldest sister who works at the Washington D.C. Coroner's Office as Chief Medical Examiner. Sitara is the most introverted of the sisters, and will occasionally assist the Jeffersonian Institute and FBI on their investigations due to her expertise in genetics. Det. Adeline Himani Matson: Berit's youngest sister - and the most outspoken of the girls. Adeline, like Berit, idolizes her father, and is something of a spitfire in nature. She works as a Narcotics detective in Chicago, and is currently the only married sister. Nick Matson: Adeline's husband - a construction worker - is very laid-back and acts as a grounding force for Adeline's explosive personality. |
