So yesterday, after realizing I had slept until 6:30 PM and had missed class, I pretty much refused to engage with the rest of the world. A lot of it, I think, was because I had been up for 36 hours, and it still took me two hours to get to sleep. I guess it's a good thing that I have an appointment for next Saturday.
Today was slightly better. I watched an old Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney movie that was playing on TCM. The British stereotypes greatly annoyed me, but other than that it was fun. I'm still 90% convinced that the movie was about gay jockey love. I mean, seriously, all that time together and neither one made a move on Garland? Ridiculous. Garland and Rooney belong together, in every movie.
sixbitsforfact (is that okay? Can I use her name like that?) came over for happy hour, and then we walked into town. We stopped by Barnes & Noble and I picked up the LoTR trilogy. I already had Fellowship, but it was the version with Elijah on the cover and although I like it, I couldn't find the two other companions to that version, so I figure I can sell it or give it away. I feel a lot better having the trilogy being of the same print. If that makes sense? Anyway, it was large paperback and it only cost $30, which I think is decent considering that they look pretty nice. Then we went for ice cream, and then we walked home. Which means I haven't had dinner, but I know there's an extra pizza slice waiting for me downstairs, and some rice.
Wizard of Oz was waiting on TCM for me when I got home, as well as a movie that I spent about a year trying to track. It was finally on megaupload (and megavideo too!), and I'm really happy that I found it. It may or may not be another Mickey Rooney flick...I'm semi-obsessed with Andy Hardy.
I've almost to the end of Buffy and Angel seasons 1 and 4, but I decided to take a little break, since I feel like I've been watching too much TV on my computer. I've also decided to "not stay up all night" but I don't know how well that is going to take. I have to get up before 4 for an interview, so at least I won't sleep in all day.
There are way too many movies playing in DC for me to keep track of. As well as a bunch of plays for the DC Fringe Festival. Why was I not aware of all the amazing DC things before? Bethesda is boring as hell, I should be living in the city! But at least I've latched on now. I've always loved AFI, and in the next couple of days they're playing "Clue" and "Empire Strikes Back". I think I've missed out on seeing "Legend". Goodbye Tom Cruise on a unicorn! And then E Street is playing "Best Worst Movie" which I've been dying to see for years. There's no way I'm missing that.
Well, that seems to be it for now. I attempted a couple of poems the other day, but I haven't made any progress on that Glee fic. I think I need a plot. That seems to be a bit lacking. I haven't forgotten to clean up sitrow, I just...haven't done it yet. Oh well. Such is life.
Um, this is really freaking me out right now, NGL.
Also, I specifically remember putting my iPod in our speaker set, and then didn't touch it for two days. My dad came home, put his iPod in, and doesn't recall seeing mine there. Those three guys who slept over and didn't leave forever in the morning except when they said "BYE!" while half-way out the door? Yeah, I'm not thinking good thoughts here. I hope to high heaven that I find it and this is all just me jumping to conclusions.
Banner made by balcarin. The ficathon is at glassbomb's journal! I've already posted and requested.
I went to an Amanda Palmer ninja gig today. It was pretty fucking awesome. As previously mentioned, it took place in the theater where I currently want to live, breathe and die. They actually said that the theater was being forced to closed unless people volunteered, so I heartily signed up. I don't care if I have another schedule and still no way to make money. I want that theater open.
Oh, right! Music! I know she played "Oasis" and "Hallelujah" but I didn't know the names of the other songs because I'm a horrible fan. She and Jason Webley did play an Evelyn Evelyn song that was quite good. The premise reminded me of "Sisters." For those of you unawares:
The one on the left is George Clooney's aunt, BTW. And if you liked that, you should watch the version with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
We had pretty good seats and I took a couple of pictures. I wanted to buy tickets for the actual EE show tomorrow night, but I have a midterm. Oh well.
During the performance, Amanda came down into the audience and sat right next to me for a while! That was pretty awesome. I didn't say anything, but still a very cool story. She also signed my friend's tit (don't worry, I have pics!) and would have signed my notebook if the guy behind us hadn't cut.
Speaking of sisters, I kind of pissed mine off today :/ I'll go bury my shame with more Buffy.
I have little to no idea how to do this properly, but I'm going to try to mix stories, panels and pictures while NOT stabbing your bandwidth in the eyes with a pair of tweezers. I have LOTS of photos, but I'm going to save the secondary ones for the next post. Onwards!
( Collapse ) An appropriate end to Friday! I'm probably going to, you know, sleep, and then post Saturday and Sunday which includes:
Glee Heroes Doctor Who Torchwood Being Human
So you know, everything awesome in the world.
Please don't take our photos without credit. Tues, Cookie and I traded off taking photos and we wouldn't want all our hard work to go unnoticed :/ At least tag this journal.
Holy shit, there is almost no time for computers at the college, and it's not helped by the crappy internets that we get here. Regardless, I've been a horrible person and feel like I've missed a bunch, so if there is any major news or just things that you deem important in either TV show history/personal life/fandom life/my life that you think I should know about, leave a comment, I beg you. I really do want to know what's going on!
Also, I'm officially a part of the CAPSLYMPICS and I'm FUCKING EXCITED! Next week will be brilliant (especially the fanmix and x-over, because that's my territory).
Tonight there was the Folk & Blues Festival, and despite the fact that my Elitist Friend (no, seriously, he even admitted to it) kept on talking about how the band wasn't really folksy nor bluesy, I liked it. Their own songs were pretty good, and they did an awesome cover of "Dear Prudence". They also mashed up "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service with "The Middle"by Jimmy Eats World which AWESOME. Such Great Heights was my favorite song for about a year, and I had JUST been listening to The Middle earlier today and thinking about how much I liked it (it's on my iPod, so it hadn't been that long since I'd heard it, but still). Just...amazing. That they thought to put these two completely different songs together, one being Indie, and one being 90's Alt. Rock.
There was also a film festival tonight (as there was last night, which included a 70's porno with a plot, and Starship Troopers) wherein we watched "From Dusk to Dawn" which is a VAMPIRE movie set in Mexico with George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino (WHOSE A CREEPY BASTARD) and Selma Hayek. Plus the guy who played Shaft. The entire movie was ridiculous, and even though I don't like blood and guts, I had to admit that it was pretty amazing for it's camp-ness. Then we watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which I'd only seen half of before, and then WALL-E....I love this school.
I also had more beer tonight that I've had before, but that still amounted to less than half the bottle, LOL...I think. In either case, I'm not drunk and haven't been since I got here. Also, most of my friends have had the opportunity to get high, but I have not. It sucks. But eventually it's going to pop up, I hope.
OKAY, BED TIME. TOMORROW I'M CATCHING UP ON ALL THE WORK AND ERRANDS THAT I'VE BEEN PUTTING OFF.
(P.S. I found a guy who likes Supernatural, Mitch Hedberg and Demetri Martin, but he has a girlfriend at home :/)
Not in the sense of "we recorded this tonight" I mean in the sense of "finally getting this into podcast format", something that we've been working on for months. ANYway, the audio is a little wonky (I'm very loud), but other than that, I see this as a success!
