Yum Cha February

Kung Hei Fat Choy, Barbarians, and welcome to another year of decadent food!

As the rigors of our debaucherous lifestyle threaten once more to subsume our last shreds of abstemious dignity, it is once more time to kick off Barbarian Plates with the traditional Yum Cha.

I have consulted the oracles, lit incense at a temple, and asked for translation of the mumblings of the priest, and have been rewarded by a window of dates during which our first meeting of the Year of the Ox must occur: Between Tuesday 10th February and Monday 23rd February. (Although the festival itself finishes on the 15th, this was a personal reading, so we'll run with it)

So! First poll of the year!

Poll #1341146 Barbarian Dates - Yum Cha 09
This poll is closed.

I can attend Yum Cha on...

Saturday 14th February, 11am
3(20.0%)
Sunday 15th February, 11am
4(26.7%)
Saturday 21st February, 11am
5(33.3%)
Sunday 22nd February, 11am
3(20.0%)

EDIT: for those attending: 14/2/09 is Vic's wedding, so you should decide if there's enough time to attend beforehand, and Mardi Gras Fair Day is 15/2/09

Second item on our agenda (gah... too many committee meetings...)
Where should we go this year? Nominations for the Yum Cha are open!

Just a piece of interesting information....

...specifcially for the evenings in 2009 when we are goign a little more upmarket than normal (re: [potentially] degustations, OR so-called 'desireable' restaurants).

Eating out is one of the great delights of living in Sydney. But arrogant restaurants have turned it into a scrap fight, and cowed diners are too fearful of losing their place on the waiting list to put their well-shod feet down.

October Feasting Nominations

...now, remember that every now and again a place will not be as it once was. This was the fear when I had reports about last Friday's Restaurant, which I passed on to people, and circumstances meant that some people dodged a bullet by not going.

Fair enough, that's life and can happen.

So, taking a deep breath and leaving that one behind us, I'm opening nominations for the October Feasting, Friday, October 31st (Halloween).

I'll open the nomination bidding with:

Taste Of Brasil, Brazillian Churrascaria, The Italian Forum, Leichhardt.
Very good reviews both from people I know, and other critics, though not really a restaurant for the Vegetarians in the bunch.

Nominations close by the end of this weekend.
