It’s an honour to be invited to moderate an important discussion on a topic I'm INCREDIBLY passionate about: "Taking Australian Breakthroughs to the World" at the Semiconductor Australia Conference in Sydney, Australia, next week. So, how do you turn a local breakthrough into a global success story? It’s a challenge many founders face, and this expert panel will be providing the path forward. My take - The journey from a lab in Australia to a boardroom in Silicon Valley (and beyond) often comes down to a few key principles: 1. Lead with a Story, Not Specs. The most brilliant technology can fail if it doesn't connect with people. Before you talk about how your tech works, you must articulate why it matters. A compelling narrative that solves a real-world problem is what builds trust and captures the imagination of a global market. 2. Translate Technical Wins into Market Value. A breakthrough in the lab is not the same as a breakthrough in the market. You must be relentless in translating your technical advantages into clear, tangible benefits. How does your innovation save your customers time, reduce their costs, or create an entirely new opportunity for them? 3. Build Your Ecosystem Before You Need It. Global expansion isn't a solo mission. The most successful companies build strong ecosystems early. This means forging strategic partnerships, engaging with industry communities, and cultivating advocates who will amplify your message and open doors in new markets. 4. Make Marketing a Mindset, Not a Department. In a deep tech company, marketing can't be a silo. It must be a mindset embedded across the entire organization, from R&D to sales. When everyone on your team can articulate the company's story and its value, you create a unified brand that is much more powerful on the world stage. Productivity is one of the most important pillars shaping Australia’s economic future but also extremely important right now. The OECD - OCDE Economic Survey (Jan 2026) projects GDP growth strengthening to ~2.3% in 2026 and ~2.4% in 2027, and notes that structural reforms including competition and regulatory reform would help support productivity growth. Gartner research shows that organisations taking a more strategic approach to productivity including enabling employees to do high-value work and breaking myths around digital adoption can increase productivity outcomes by up to 35%, translating into tangible organisational value. But then Gartner also reminds us that AI and other technologies alone don’t automatically deliver productivity gains. Only a minority of employees today fully capture productivity improvements from GenAI tools which truly reflects towards gaps in awareness, adoption and effective use of those tools available. So what do all of these insights point to? In my mind I think it needs to be paired with capability uplift, security and innovation needs to be at the heart of these productivity strategies but most importantly diverse leadership specially with women are essential to turn strategy into outcomes. Another gong for ServiceNow's CX Campaign! 🥳🏆 Planning, building, and nurturing the campaign has been a real career highlight. It's also reinforced some critical lessons about how brands can influence audiences that matter. To celebrate the campaign's fifth recognition from the likes of the PRCA, Mumbrella, and PRovoke Media, here are five things I've learned since launch: 1. Deeper intergration = better results When we launched the campaign in 2021, our primary distribution channels were media and social. Since then, every year we've collaborated with more internal teams, partners, and customers, like marketing, sales, digital media, government relations, executive briefings, internal comms, implementation partners, and key customers, to get the content into the hands of more people, so they can put it into the hands of more customers and prospects. Yes, more teams means more coordination, but it's also meant the research is now widely embedded across the business and everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. Each team brought into the fold has served as a force multiplier, delivering more and better results. 2. Local content wins Content that's rooted in the countries and culture where it's being shared is more relevant and relatable than anything that takes too broad a view. As we've expanded the campaign across APAC (and going global next year!), finding the local hook and angle to make it resonate has been a critical factor in its continued success. 3. B2B marcomms doesn't have to be boring Historically, ServiceNow research focused on our business decision-maker target audience, not the end-users who ultimately feel the effects of our software. By tapping into the frustrations and emotions of everyday people, we were able to show relatable and easy to understand customer pain points. Rather than selling the features of our products, the campaign showed the issues businesses need to solve (like disjointed internal systems), which perfectly set up our platform as the solution. As the cliche goes "B2B buyers are people too", and the CX campaign's first test is always - 'would my mates find this interesting?' If the answer is no, our audience won't either. 4. Consistency builds brand PR and marketing love shiny new things, and we get bored of content and campaigns FAR quicker than our audience. Incrementally adding to the core foundation every year kept content fresh, while building something recognisable. Media now come to us every year for the research, because they know what to expect. 5. Teamwork makes the dream work Big things only work if you have a big team of dedicated people bringing their a-game, fresh ideas, and critical analysis.
