Seungri High School ranks as one of the worst of the 178 high schools in Seoul based on academic scores. Seungri High School is now busy preparing presentations for its new students. Class 2 is at the bottom of grade 2 at Seungri High. Nam-Soon (Lee Jong-Suk) is elected class president for grade 2, thanks to the support of Jung-Ho (Kwak Jung-Wook), who is a member of the school gang.
Se-Chan (Daniel Choi) is the top Korean language teacher at a famous institute in Gangnam. In order to improve the student's scores at Seungri High School, the school hires Se-Chan. When Se-Chan appears at the school's opening presentation, Nam-Soon becomes embarrassed.

Jung Ah Jung Nov 09 2025 11:25 am For whoever doesn't know, Park Se Young married Kwak Jung Wook in February 2022. It stills seems weird to me, but they're happy. The first school drama that I ever saw and liked it a lot. Still though, Who Are You: School 2015 is my favorite school drams. I definitely have a thing for school dramas. I never thought I would be able to see School 1, 2, 3, and 4, because they were from so far back. A few months ago I found them on Kocowa. I was so happy!! I've seen 1 and 2 so far. Both are awesome and definitely recommended. Who Are You: School 2015, too.
Dan Fan Oct 31 2023 7:50 am Best School series for me. The birth of famous and finest actors like Lee Jong Suk and Woobin. Shin Hye Sun only had small to no lines but she was the most successful among the female students.
NSHS Mar 17 2023 1:16 am The real last instalment of the famous School series (other than the name, the ones after this are actually not the same production). It sent Jong Suk and Woo Bin right into stardom. The writer basically changed the main story as they filmed while airing the episodes because the two actors’ chemistry was too great to ignore. But this change was what made this School so good. Ten years later l’m still hoping the two actors will work together again.

In my school almost everyday came up a case that made situation worse, both school and class. Anything about friendship, the surudents who have bad temperamental, the students always talk about make up anywhere like socialite. Bitch I think my school was the worst step that I through in my life. but after all, it worth it to be through for. I am the one who also have some cases in my school back then. romance? hell. it even less than 20%. my school was sooooo complicated like this school. just like school 2013. It 2015 when I was in the 10th grade so the time not far from this drama.

AJ Dec 06 2021 11:20 pm With regards to the students' characters, much has been discussed about outstanding portrayal of Ko Nam-Soon and Park Heung-Soo by Lee Jong-Suk and Kim Woo-Bin, respectively -- and rightfully so. The various acting awards and nominations received by Lee Jong-Suk and Kim Woo-Bin further proved this.
Also deserving honourable mention is Kwak Jung-Wook for his portrayal of the troubled Oh Jeong-Ho -- an erstwhile bully who comes from a disfunctional family. His final dialogue with Mr. Kang Se-Chan is particularly heartbreaking.
Ob Dec 02 2021 9:49 am Watched the re-run. The stories of the students and teachers were among best k-dramas and more real-life. Lessons on friendships, patience, perseverance, EQ vs IQ, and education resonate in this kdrama.

The sub-plot involving the Oh Jeong-Ho character is heartbreaking -- it is indeed true what is said or implied in certain episodes, that no matter how dedicated and passionate the teachers are, there might be a few students who would "slip through the cracks", due to various circumstances.

Lee Jong Suk, Kim Woo Bin, Li Yi Kyung, Lee Ji Hoon, and of course Shin Hye Sun eventhough she was only a minor cast here. Gil Eun Hye, Jeon Soojin are also active in industry.

Fair to say this kdrama attracted me to this addictive kdrama world. And talking about the drama its been plotted very beautifully with amazing actors and phenomenal story about education systems..... The story is pretty simple yet very touching and emotional... Almost 4 years since i last watch this but all the characters are fresh in my mind... Go nam soon and oh jung oh ? ? ? ?

But i fallen in love with oh jung ho, song ha kyung, lee kang joo, lee yi kyung, lee ji hoon, lee kang jo, go nam soon, and park heung soo acting. I watch this drama for many time and i never get bored about this drama. Really recommended this drama, i give 9.9/10 point for this drama. Now i watching this dram AGAIN and i really really love it. Nothing romance scene (maybe just little but it cant call romance yee), best chemistry and best story. Really really love it. I need drama like this. And i want to see the artist more drama movie. Espesially oh jung ho (kwak jung wook) i hope i can see you in other drama or movie. Kwak jung wook Fighting. School 2013 Fighting.

Icy Sep 24 2018 9:35 am There's no love story here, but the chemistry was really, really strong and alive. Bromance, sisterhood, even between coworkers... i love teacher jung and teacher kang's chemistry... they built the atmosphere so fine... there's no love between them (maybe just some super tiny sparks), but the way they're take care of the class was similar like mom & dad... their teamwork so jjang. Beside of teaching, for me it's look like they're played a household sims with 35 babies... xD however, despite of the awesome storyline, i prefer this drama more than 15/17 edition because of the uniform.... 2013 uniform was so similar with the old School series and it bring back the originality of the series.
Flower Sep 11 2018 4:14 am Ask myself why I don't watch this drama earlier before. But thank God i watch it now with my mature mind. It makes me watch it and think about it from every point of view. I understand how it feels to be the teachers either I understand why the students act like that. Yes yes yes I am strongly agree if we name it as the best School drama in school series. It's so realistic but not missing its fiction feels also. And the moral of the story is well delivered. The 2015 / 2017 good also but this one is beyond amazing.

Woozy Mar 15 2018 10:38 pm I have only started to watch the drama recently. And I am currently only at Episode 4 and still ongoing. The reason I've decide to watch it because of Jong Suk and Woo Bin (of course). I've read all over the internet on their bromance in the drama and can't help myself from watching it. And it is additional point that they are best friend irl also. Ever since Uncontrollably Fond and While You Were Sleeping, I couldn't really get over and move on from Jong Suk and Woo Bin. lol.
My first thought of watching the drama after the first episode was "Oh this is somewhat similar to the Japanese anime and drama Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) whereby the homeroom teacher was assigned to tame a class that to tame a class bno teacher could handle. thereafter, the teacher embarks on a mission of self-discovery by breaking through to each student one-by-one, and helping each student to overcome their problems and learn to genuinely enjoy life."
But I couldn't say for sure for this drama whether the plot is similar to GTO as I haven't finished watching it. So far, it is somewhat similar. Nonetheless, I bet it will be a great drama and from the comments I've read, I am sure I will not be disappointed. ^^
Zeera Mar 11 2018 7:37 pm OMG this drama was a rollercoaster of emotions. I didn't expect it to be this good, and or actually enjoy it and fall in love, but I did. I highly recommend watching this drama, it is unlike any other ones I have watched and isn't one of your normal high school ones. I really hoped to see some romance in this but I am satisfied with the way it ended, it felt natural and realistic. Actually there is a bit of bromance which was a plus.I really hope that they continue on with this storyline because I really want to know what happened to some of the characters, but I know that is not going to happen.
yan Feb 07 2018 7:25 pm i dont usually comment but im gonna be honest. i chose to watch this deama cus its my first kdrama and i wanted to watch something ”shittier” and not statt with all the good stuff (like goblin, etc) right away just to have high expectations and get disappointed.
and yeah the setting seemed cliche, the visualis wasnt the best, the music idk, some actors were kinda idk, the sound idk,. yeah i wasnt too impressed and im still not an expert when it comes to korea and if these things happen but the drama seemed a bit like a typical american high school movie
BUT BOY I WAS WRONG!!!! kinda... yeah its still kind if s cliche high school movie BUT ITS SO MUCH MORE!
the themes are super relevant in oursociety (and world), its intense and drama almost all the time but it doesnt feel weird cus we follow different people and their own internal and externa struggles. some things are a bit off lile why did they do that etc. but as a whole IM SUPER IMPRESSED (this is my first kdrama as i said).
i thought this was gonna be a 3-4/10 but now im like 8-8,5/10 because wow that story and all those emotions and themes they touched was amazing.

niaa Jul 29 2017 10:16 am i never post a comment bc im usually capital L lazy but if youre like me and go through the comments to see whether its worth watching or not, i can tell you that School 2013 is one of the best dramas ive ever watched (its kicked down a few of my favs a notch). the characters and plot really brought me to tears too many times to count. jongsuk and woobins delivery on their characters were above average and ill really miss seeing themm:(. everyone i believed id despise, i loved a lil too much by the end. ignoring some of the ugly, old hairstyles id still give it a solid 10/10. to end this off, ill just say watch it and you wont regret it Thank You:]]]

Nothing else comes near and I think they should stop the series or, I don't know, continue the story of Nam Soon and Heung Soo in year 3? Seriously that chemistry in the drama is rarely seen in dramaland and I can't imagine not getting Jong Suk and Woo Bin to do another project together. I do hope Woo Bin recovers soon.
School 2013 is also the best bromance ever done, so much so that they had to drop the stories involving the girls. But it was the best move IMO.
@Cardinal spirit, there is no season 2 to School 2013. The later School series (2015 and 2017) are standalones. There are lots of School 2013 fanmade stories on YouTube though. Just search "Heungsoon" or "Jong Suk Woo Bin".

I cried on the confrontation scene of Woobin and Jong-suk, especially when the former ask the latter, "what I mean is, didn't you miss me?" that's on ep 10, and with the background music, OMG, my tears are falling. Missing Woobin and praying for his fast recovery and to be totally free of his Big C.
Farah May 01 2017 3:53 pm I watched this drama a year and couple months ago; and I remember loving it so mutch and crying my bulls out :'( and being really existed to the time when to forgat it so I could rewatch it . And that's what happened two days ago I decided to do it and I'm on ep 12 and I think I'm going crazy . Nam soon and heung soo are the best Jjang P.s I thought I'm not going to cry this time because it's my second time but I was 100% wrong; I maybe even cried more this time My only wish was that the writer to make heung soo and gang joo date or love each other I think they look awesome togather ....... what you guys think??? chojuns Apr 27 2017 7:53 am recently, i've just finished watching it again. i think this is the best school series among school 1 until school 2015.
this drama really told us about the real friendship, how homeroom teacher worked hard for the students, some parents who aren't agree with what their son/daughter chose. there are no romance scene, even though i hope for go namsoon-song hakyung.
and i really like the fact that the casts are mainly born in 1988-1989. except for hyoyoung who is born in 1993 and dani in 1998.

I watched this show after watching Monstar and The Heirs, all three are about high school students. This one is by far the best one. The friendships and the problems the students and teachers face are so well presented. Nam Soon and Heung Soo's relationship was the best thing in the story.

Ji hoon and Yi kyung had more appearances and is more important in this drama mostly to the main characters, they had more lines and scenes than those faculty teachers but why don't they have pictures up there? Yah I might exaggerate. ? but I really just do appreciate them. I like this drama. At first, it's just because of LJS, but after watching, I can say that its worth my time

Huhu Nov 02 2016 3:06 pm This made me think outside of the box and just not to judge people. No one in this world is perfectly good but no one is a 100% bad person. People are willing to change when they want to.
I loved how none of them gave up on wach others especially the boys didn't up abandoning Oh jung Ho even though he was an ass to all of them. And for Nam Soon still trying to fix his problems with Heung Soo. So big lesson I learned don't give up on people you care about.
I definitely reccommed this to anyone. 9.5/10
adams Aug 03 2016 7:26 am i am biased in my love for Lee Jong-suk, so i loved this because he becomes his characters really well. i don't care much for the rest of the drama because it was too sentimental and unrealistic, but the Heung soo - Nam soon story arc was really well done.

Not a puppy love etc. I like everything in this drama especially the friendship between LJS and KWB. I love it when a gangster started to become friends with them, and it's so funny! ㅋㅋㅋ i hope the next school drama will get the point of 'school' itself like this one. ♡♡♡

The acting was great and I was really impressed by the love between the two friends. A kudos to you guys. You guys are the best especially woo bin and Jong suk. You guys are the best.
Ana Jan 30 2016 7:54 pm I went into this expecting the typical flimsy, cute but overall less than inspired teenage drama only to be proven very wrong. I was pleasently surprised at how realistic this series managed to be, it presented school life as it so often is both for the students and the teachers as well. The focus on older characters as actual people and not just background props was something I greatly appreciated.
Add to that very tight acting and a great cast that brings life to characters that could very well be real and you are all set for a rewarding if at times painful viewing experience.
Many K-drama tries all too hard to make the viewer cry without at all getting them emotionally invested but School 2013 manages to be emotional without being manipulative. I wish other series were more like this, truly wonderful.

I would say this is one of the few Korean dramas that I like simply because it wasn't about inheritances or big romantic love stories. I like it because all of the characters were imperfect and were capable of being good and bad - where the protagonists were not always right and the antagonists were not evil to the core. As a teacher, I could totally relate to the dilemmas faced by the lead teacher-characters. I have seen school dramas with my own eyes and I understand what this drama is trying to tell its audience. There are teachers who care deeply about their students like Teacher Jung and there are teachers like Teacher Kang who are caught in the dilemma of doing what the society dictates is right and what he knows and understands to be so. Of course, real life is far more complicated and problems and challenges couldn't be so easily resolved, and more often than not, the ending isn't always a happy one. In fact, there's no end to the challenges faced by teachers and the educational managers. But I liked that this drama attempted to show that sincerity could make a really significant difference not only for the students but also for the teachers themselves. Anyway, I commend the team who brought this drama to the small screen - the producers, writers, directors, actors and actresses, and everyone. In my opinion, this is a MUST watch, and for viewers like me, this would certainly be worth the time.

baek ma ri Oct 28 2015 2:32 pm I happened to watch school 2015 I really loved it it was so intense and kim so hyun really did a great job then I decided to watch this DAYUM this is way more intense and realistic I mean the genre is about school but school 2015 was about teen puppy love while school 2013 is all about reality in school, FRIENDSHIP :'> that's why i love school 2013 MORE ps: im 14 yrs old hehe (just saying because most of my age like teen puppy love but im different hehe)

The ending was cliche and meh it didn't really phase me. The lead guy is also very one-dimensional and boring. School 2013 however made a lasting impact + is more realistic

cc Jun 10 2015 12:49 am A FEW SPOILERS IN THIS REALLY LONG COMMENT :) I liked the drama. Similar to a lot of people who commented, I started this drama because of Lee Jung Suk and Kim Woo Bin. I knew going in that there wasn't going to be romance (something I had grown accustomed to in kdramas) and that was partially the reason I was so hesitant to start it. In the end, though, I really enjoyed this drama. It was tedious, a bit slow (slow enough that for the first time EVER I couldn't binge watch this drama) but i think it's just slow in comparison to other dramas I've watched and what I've come to expect from kdramas. It was a little exhausting having to watch each episode where SOMEONE (or maybe two someones) was threatening to be expelled, transferred, fired, quitting, etc. but I think that only bothered me because I watched most of the episodes back to back so the story lines just felt repeated to me. I'm not gonna lie, I totally shipped the two teachers together (I didn't really ship Lee Jung Suk and that main chick Song Ha-Gyeong) AND Kim Woo Bin and the short haired girl (I can't remember her name but I think it was Lee Kang Joo) even though there wasn't much evidence for it but that's just me. The drama was still good without the romance. In fact, I'm glad it was blatant "I love you" BROMANCE. The ending wasn't as "Everyone Lives Happily Ever After" as I'm used to or as I would have liked (honestly I think it was a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle rushed) but it was at list satisfactory. I finished the drama knowing that not everyone gets their happy ending but even Oh Jung Ho sort of had his Happily Ever After in that he said he wouldn't (or at least try) to not be as bad as he was before. To summarize this incredibly long review, the drama was good. Not perfect, a little slow most of the time, but I don't regret watching it. The cute bromantic and overall friendship scenes made it worth watching. <3

So, I decide to watch this drama until the end. And when I follow this drama, episode by episode, I know what the reason why Nam Soon want to 'protect' Heung Soo. That's because Nam Soon was did a mistake to Heung Soo in the past. And he want to 'repairing' that.
And I know the reason why Jung Ho being a bad boy. That because he is a 'broken home'. He doing like a bad guy is because he just want got some attention from another. And like what his friends (Ji Hoon and Yi Kyung) said that Jung Ho is a good boy, that's because while his father always to hit him, but he never want to leave his father alone. He always to take care with his father, even though they are a poor family. He working hard to got some money when his father sick.
So for you all who always ask "why she / he do that?" or "why she / he like that?", I just wanna say, please watch this drama until the end, and you will got the answer ^^

Has some interesting parts, but it's too much. Overly sentimental to a point where it sort of makes me want to gag. Especially, the In-Jae character is just too much. I doubt she would last more than a couple months at a real high school.
Also, I thought it was interesting that Jung Oh's friends think he's a "good kid". Frankly, I didn't see it. I saw a violent kid who enjoyed inflicting pain and misery on his classmates.
My guess is that most of the scenarios are contrived to play to audiences and have little/no relevance to what high schools are actually like.

The Jung In Jae character is too much of a goody two shoes. So much so, that I found her a bit annoying..
The Oh Jung Ho character is simply scary, with no redeemable qualities that I could see. A career criminal/thug in the making. Basically, he tried to frame two guys in a very dangerous situation that could have gotten the two guys badly injured or even killed. And he showed no remorse while doing so. If I were a teacher in that school, I would breathe a sigh of relief if Jung Ho was either expelled or choose not to continue to attend school.
And the Nam Soon character elects not to defend himself either verbally or physically against dangerous gangsters in a situation which could have gotten him seriously injured or even killed. For starters, he could have told the truth, in his defense. His machismo b/s, where he chooses not to "squeal", even in this situation, is crazy. By not admitting the truth, he's tacitly admitting to a falsehood which can get him grievously injured. It doesn't make any sense. And, on an ethical level, you have the right to speak the truth in your defense.
Also, I've heard that Korean high schools tend to be very stressful and crazy when it comes to studying, so it would have been interesting if there was a drama that was accurately able to portray some of the realities of a typical Korean high school. This series was so melodramatic that I doubt it accurately portrayed anything..

Although at first it didn;t appeal to me and first episodes I saw only briefly, ten after Park Heung Soo appeared I couldn;t stop watching. It's funny, touching, mysterious and in some aspects it shows reality and the violence in schools. I really like school dramas and this one is one of the best. The cast, plot, funny and touching moments made this drama. The relatioships presented in the drama really made it worth watching. Not only the genial and excellent Nam Soo couple but also the relationships between teachers and students. I think that many teachers who are working in the school to get money and to get an "easy profession" should learn from them how to treat and help the students. The same impression I had watching Dream High or Gokusen - they are dramas where we can both learn and laugh. Even though I finished wathcing it two days ago, I can;t help going back to some special moments. I have this feeling that I will return to this show :)
By the way - I recommend Running man episode 138 where Kim Woo Bin and Lee Jong Suk appear. It's really funny in the high school convention :)

The relationship between Nam-Soon and Heung-Soo, was a special one, they had many troubles,that affected their friendship,but finally the foud a way to reconcile and strengthen their friendship.I liked very much this drama, and I don't regret that I saw.

There are two things that touch my heart since i watch this drama; first, it relates to the relationship between teacher and students. Even it is really hard to work with gangster students , but she never give up her students. She always provide good counseling to her students who fail in trouble. The second one that touch my heart so much is the relationship between Park Seung Hoo and Go Nam Soon. The relationship between these two guys is really deeper than sibling. I really appreciate if i would have such a friend as them.

That HeungSoon couple! I do love the brotherhood they had! The way they smiled to each other after they reconcile, that feeling they're shy to approach each other, that awkwardness they felt. Ahhhh~ It makes me to love them as a couple. Lol! Really, no boy-girl romance but these two, Nam Soon and Seung Hoo brought bromance not being a lover but the brotherhood they have, enough for me to love them as couple. <3

I saw so many comments praising this drama about how realistic the school scenes as to their real life but I find the way how the students react to the teachers to be so illogical. The school have such good facilities and even provided them with school meals. At my school, our basketball court is outside in the school assembly, the classroom old and dirty and I often don't eat anything during break time because I couldn't afford the school canteen's food. It's true I complains about the lessons being boring and that but I actually envy them for being able to study in such a school. Yet many of the students are able to just give up and are willing to drop out of school. The teachers are also at fault. They don't care about the students and those who can't afford tuitions/cram classes are forced to give up on their studies. Jang Nara was very caring but her methods are so wrong especially the way she group them up like as though they are in primary school. I prefer Daniel Choi's teaching better. Therefore I feel like this drama is just out there to rub salt into our wounds as students by portraying us like that. Everything is just so ridiculous!!!!

(Before I only used to watch Japanese dramas) I love the friendship between the characters and how it is really relate-able to real life, even if it is a bit over the top. My fav character was, surprisingly, Lee Ji Hoon. I loved how he grew up and became really mature, even saying sorry to Yun Woo ^^

evangelion May 21 2013 9:00 pm great storyline. yeah, school life is not only about love and romance. i love every episodes where they were focus on friendship and care each other.love how the twist happened; how the scenes or settings used before became a point or place where the next scenes happened; and i loves how they decided to didn't show some relationship and person, to let the viewers curious what actually happened and what will be happen in the future and wish for more. i keep wishing part two for this drama(absolutely with the same cast, their chemistry and teamwork were really great). they still have 3rd grade in school life.

You learn about most of the characters issues and I thought that was great instead of focusing on the main ones. You get to understand and know other characters as well. I do not regret spending my time watching School 2013.

MikeyC Jan 28 2013 10:46 pm was an ok show overall. way too many main characters so the show didnt have time to go in depth with any1 show might have been very good if they only focused on the the 5 main boys and go into depth with them. they were truly the only interesting parts about this show. i was bored when watching teacher only scenes and the random situations with the other students. last episode felt rushed and normal. no big bang to send you off with a full smile. just a nice bittersweet ending. 7/10 drama.
Ardvisoor Jan 28 2013 11:50 am This drama has no clear and formal relationship between boys and girls but school students in this drama care about each other and there are two different but caring teacher for them.In each episode you watch what problems are students face with and how the teachers help them to overcome these problems.You can see why troublemaker students behave badly and it's a challenge if they can change or not by having a reliable teacher beside them. I really think that every episode of this drama worth watching.I enjoyed it a lot.

CICI Jan 21 2013 3:09 pm I love Jang Na-Ra and Daniel Choi together in this. Their chemistry together is the best and I think they are a really good "drama" couple. I wish it was a longer series, Lee Jong-Suk made me cry, he is so good and Kim Woo-Bin is really cute. Actually, I like all of the students except Oh Jung-Ho continues to be annoying.

I'm really looking forward to a consistent beautiful storyline.. This would probably be my most favorite drama for it surpassed any of my expectation to KDramas. =]

Also the 3 gang like brothers; Jung Ho, Ji Hoon and Yi Kyung...
This drama gets much better as seconds pass by, no kidding~

It sounds like the old song So Happy Together but I heard it again in the middle of episode 3 (when Namsoon & Sechan finished cleaning the auditorium) and the words are Korean. I mean, usually, I hate these kinds since it's the stereotypical dreams and love and etc, however, this drama, blew my mind away. It's my new addiction.

I'm always so sceptical about high school dramas, like too mainstream love stories and tales of dreams and dying wishes, but seeing the characters line-up I think this won't be so bad. CHarnie Dec 20 2012 2:25 am I really love this drama....Awesome! very helpful to my part as a teacher. I can't wait for the next episode to play on air. I was hooked in every move that they were taking...so intrigue on how they (The two teachers) manage to solve their day to day class encounter with the class 2. Of course, not to mention the possibilities of having a romantic feeling between the two homeroom teachers. I really like the chemistry that they have with each other. A very good pair! Maybe others might think that teaching life is such a boring plot in terms of romantic scheme but I hope that in this drama this would prove that being a teacher doesn't exempt you in the spell of this so nice feeling so called love.
