Kim Sabu was a famous surgeon with the nickname of "Hand of God." He suddenly disappeared and nobody knew exactly why. Kim Sabu is known as Teacher Kim and he calls himself the Romantic Doctor. He enjoys his life in seclusion.

Kang Dong-Ju became a doctor to win somebody over and Yoon Seo-Jung become a doctor to be recognized by somebody. After they meet Kim Sabu, they learn about life values and comfort from love.

president do doing everything to disrupt the life of teacher kim after being unaware of his existence for 14 years???

also the romance between dr kang and and dr yoon is so off. i skip their parts during the later episodes.

just too many unncessary plots for me. sorry

Season 2 – I don’t know… it focused more on romance, and the exciting incidents were gone.

Season 3 – I have nothing to say… Kang Dong Ju stole the show!!! If not for him, the show wouldn’t have been as good.

Still, this remains my top 1 K-drama! Nothing compares to Dr. Romantic (Season 1) – the best! Season 2 was just okay??? Season 3 was so-so! I was about to drop it in the first half, but I didn’t—thanks to Kang Dong Ju! Hoping to see Yoon Seo Jung and Do In Beom in Season 4!!!

I can't bring myself to like Dr. Cha Eunjae. She's a brat, unprofessional, irrational until the very end. How could a supposedly "main lead" behave that way in the S3 Episode 14? Leading the boycott-Dr.Kang-stuff? Really??? At the last episodes where she should've already become wiser after everything she went through? Lol Such a poorly-written character. No character development until the very end.

Oni Jul 09 2023 2:54 am Season 1 is still my favorite and the best Team of all seasons for me. I even watched again from season 1 and season before I watched the Season 3 in Disney+, I must say because It’s all where everything’s started like you will know Dr. kim better in Season 1. There’s a lot of challenges and problems in Season 1 and their procedure is much more complex like the first artificial heart transplant. Brain surgery. I think there’s a reality comparison in real life where intern before are much more declined and intense and Doctor kim are more strict to Kang Dong Ju and Yoon Seo Jung compared to Gen Z generation where most of interns keep whining. Childish always have questions. First Season Intern also are more smart and skilled than Season 2. I really really like the personality of Crazy whale/ Yoon Seo Jung, smart,funny, skilled and very fond and obedient to Dr. kim an opposite of Cha Eun Jae, I dont know but I didnt like the character of cha Eun Jae and I always skip her part, shes annoying, always keep whining, act childish and cringe to Seo Woo Jin, there’s no chemistry in them. While Kang Dong Ju and Yoon Seo jung are more matured and the chemistry are superb. Also I think Yoon Seo Jung would be the best Surgeon in Season 4 since she’s also a legend in Season 1 and also has double license while doctor kim has 3 license. she’s both cardiothoracic and general surgeon also take note, she’s the fist student and I guess the most favorite student of Dr. Kim. Really hoping that crazy whale will comeback in season 4 pls. It’s like a dou of Dr. Kim and his GF and Kang Dong-Ju and Yoon Seo Jung as legends in thier field. I hope Cha Eun Jae will be replaced by new character as I reallly dont like her character to be honest.

Have not watched S2 as it's not yet in Netflix....hope all the cast will be together.

Yoo Yeon-Seok and Seo Hyun-Jin's chemistry brings back so much memories on their iconic scene. Pls chase the Dr Romantic series if you have have not.

I find the surgical operations so interesting and can now watch without feeling I have to look away. The team are so good together. Dr romantic is so good at doing what he thinks is right and taking little notice of the jealous men from the main hospital. I’m hoping that the third series will come to NZ.

Quynh Nguyen Mar 23 2022 11:44 am When I heard of the movie's name for the 1st time, I was not really into it as I thought it was much about love with medical background only. However, my friend told me that the surgical scenes were so real, which made me start watching it.

She was right. I finished both seasons in two days and a half. I cannot stop watching a new episode, then another episode, until there is no more to watch.

The main cast Han Suk Kyu made it incredibly awesome. I even searched cap cut on utube to watch him again, esp. the scenes he performed his surgical skills and conveyed his meaningful thoughts to other people. It is hard for me to come back to real life in which I have to accept that he is just an actor.

It is not polite to compare, but this is the best medical Kdrama ever to me, as a fan of medical Kdrama looking for realistic medical scene. For this aspect, it's better than New Heart, Good Doctor, or Hospital Playlist, etc.

Can't wait for ss3 uwu

As a person who used to be in OR for 3 years, I truly admire this production. Most operation and procedure scenes were so real. (Aparted from vascular procedures, other organs seems so real) The operation steps were really accurative. Surgeon didn’t forget to change their gloves after touching non-sterile part. etc. So I really enjoy watching it a lot.

Hopefully that in the 3rd season, all main charecters from Season 1 and 2 will be able to work together in Trauma centre.

And probably should find a neurosurgeon for Doldam hospital. (Because Trauma centre will really need one for severe head injury patients)

And it will be so great if they can set a hybrid OR room for endovascular procedure too. (So expensive, though)

Thanks for the great surgical series for me to enjoy!

It appealed to my sense of righteousness and fighting for the underdog... and as he is for many of us, Yoo Yeon-Seok is my Oppa! I am on team Han Suk-Kyo because you can't not be - he stands up for what he believes in and is someone that you want to follow because he is your hero - plus all he needs to do is smirk and your heart melts!

Too many times ML make stupid decision cuz he care about his crush. While s2, ML did care at least manage to separate private and work life matter. Because of that, s2 has more plot. More focus on medical stuff.

I'm at the age where I wish my life experiences to help others. That's why I'm leaving comments. I hope they help people sincerely. I advise watching this series. There are life lessons in this. Also for all who took part, I hope you take something for yourself and your life will be better. Dr. Kim is more a Psychiatrist then a surgeon. A role in medicine which is underestimated. kpopandgrime Nov 17 2020 2:24 pm what an amazing drama ; cant belive this dropped in 2016 and im only watching it for the first time. I have the amazing in capitals for a reason; as I believe this is the best medical kdrama ever (just last week it was between Good doctor and hospital ship).

Everything about this drama was perfect from the cast, plot , team chemistry and there was a perfect mix of operations and the storytelling (this what makes this drama stand out from the rest). So I never got bored in any of the episodes; major kudos to the director for such a perfect drama.

Really and truly I loved the whole cast any so many of them deserved all the awards in the world; truly sad that the cast had to be changed. But i will defo be watching the season 2 no matter what !!!! . Highly Recommend this series to everyone and make sure u watch the first season before season 2.

I know the character in typical kdrama fashion will change and soften as times go but like, can he stop being annoying now. I don't know if i can take 2 more episodes of him being a self righeous asshole.

All characters are dynamic, and the progress of their arc is portrayed at the exact moments. It is not boring at all, I found it light in terms of romance, and heavy in terms of drama. I was even going through the stages of break-up when I watched this and with the notion that every relationship "sucks" due to my recent break-up, I found their chemistry rather different. It worked. This is an amazing drama, the season two was great as well. I can rewatch this over and over again.

Five minutes into the series, I could not help to think this is the Korean version of Dr. X, a very entertaining Japanese drama.

Firstly, I admire the actors that they have to memory the medical terms to make us believe they really are medical graduate.

However, to be honest, I find this drama quite boring regardlesa of the awards on this page, except for the main doctor character, who is very similar to Japanese Dr. X.

The romance feels forced. The Dong Ju character is one of the worst creations. Many of the dramas are dragged and some are unbelievable. For instance, the surgery for the Chairman dragged over saveral episodes. Unbelievable, for examples, the poweful Chairman obeyed and allowed his operation to be not private and broadcasted live. Dong Ju confronted Kim in the ER, watched by patients about his personal issue, while it was said the time is very of ultimate importance.

Only watch this because my Netflix says it will be taken out feom library in a short while. And with the help of smart TV remote to fast forward boring scenes.

As medical themed entertainment, it is far compared to the Dr. X.

As kdrama, have to say this, it cannot hold a candle to My Mister.

Not sure why the high rating.

Everything in this drama feels so real, the acting are remarkable and the actors are outstanding! ? From season 1 to season 2 I have been so in love with this drama. One important thing i could probably say is that this drama made me realized how being a doctor who choose his patient first before anything else is really important. This drama did not fail to consider the challenges a doctor or any healthcare workers experienced inside the institution, it did not sugar coat how health care worker must have felt during those challenging times too (although there's drama all over the scene), and the most challenging part above all is about the high authorities who fail or even choose to neglect the unvarnished situation of the healthcare system and tends to cover up ethical and professional issues. I just want to say ? thunbs up for this drama! Hoping for 3rd season! Wish you all the best! ?

It's great, but I have to say that I like season 2 better. The characters are more mature. AHS and LSK really nailed the characters. Also the veterans like Han Suk Kyu and Jikyung. I don't say that YYS and SHJ are bad, they are great. And I don't believe that it is Yang Se Jong debut drama. His acting is superb. So happy that he did a cameo appearance in S2. Mr X Feb 02 2020 4:02 am My all-time favourite drama that I came back to watch when hearing season 2 was coming. Kang Dongju and Yoon Seojung are such real characters played by exemplary actors, and to top that off Teacher Kim is a figure with so much presence.

The drama may start out slow but once all are gathered at Doldam Hospital each episode keeps you on your toes until the very end. Everything about this drama from the actors, to the filming, editing and soundtrack is so well-crafted - there's no doubt as to why a second season was created.

No, you don't need to watch this season if you're looking to start season 2 on its own, but you're really missing out if you don't.

The amount of times i was so overwhelmed during the drama just shows how good they were. Im just a bit sad that i watched it now im four years late for this but still wanted to leave my option because it is truly an amazing drama and worth every second.

I started watching season 2 first and then I felt it was necessary to watch season 1 (not necessarily but def worth watching!!!). This drama has to be one of my fave medical dramas of all time!! Dr. Kang was annoying at times but I had so much fun rooting for him and his love for Dr. Yoon. I also loved the family-friendship relationship at Deoldam Hospital! I’m going to miss the lead doctors but I’m looking forward to Doctor romantic season 2!

c-chan Jan 03 2020 1:14 am just binged this in three days, probably the best korean medical drama i've seen, although the amount of unprofessionalism is mind-boggling. granted, it is still a drama first and foremost, but fighting AND shouting while treating patients, not to mention everyone from the orderlies to the nurses to the doctors stopping to have a stare off in shock while nobody is paying attention to the patient? it's so absurd that i just had to laugh every time. anyway, i still love it to bits, teacher kim is an awesome, complicated and layered character that i havent seen in so long. the bad guys are one dimensional, so there's really nothing to say there. the supporting cast are brilliant, except, personally, for kang dong ju who seems to be the most lackluster character in doldam. he grows up a bit, regresses, learns, then unlearns. he's...pretty annoying, although there's a stretch of eps (13-17) when he's actually good.

also, shoutout to how they portray nurses? finally, not just background love interests but actually an important member of the medical team? like, when they were trying to cut down on surgery time by getting all the preparations done even faster and better *chef's kis*

DW Nov 21 2018 1:40 pm Read the title, you'd expect Doctor Kim to be a funny, goofy, laidback guy. But he's such an asshole throughout the early episodes. He annoyed the hell out of until midway through. He seems to hold everything with contempt, taking out his anger 'cause of his past on everyone. He is especially a complete douchbag to Yoonseok and Hyunjin's character. I did not like watching the early episodes due to this.

Medically, I think it's the best Kdrama I've seen though. It reminded me of Code Black more than anything with its fast paced and quite accurate usage of trauma situations. Also LOVED the supporting cast, especially the angry burst Myung-Sim had every now and then which made the episodes for me.

There is so much to sacrifice but there is always choice, become obedient in accordance with the hierarchy of the company or more listening to the conscience because the body first feels 'something' before your brain knows. In the end become brainy when it comes to making decisions.

It is evident in this drama as well, although they don't really have a loveline. Even the main couple love story is not a big focus since this is a medical drama. And it is a very good one. if youre a biomedical student, i really suggest you to watch it as it will really open your eyes on the medical world. aside from that, this drama also teaches you the art of hardwork and effort on how both will do wonders on your career.

yoonseok really did amazing acting out dongjoo's character and same goes for hyunjun portraying seojung's character. their chemistry was indeed wonderful and let me tell you, the kissing scenes in here will not disappoint you! its not the usual lip to lip flat af kind of smacking LMAOOO. yoonseok really is an amazing kisser and a total cutie!

this drama has a high rating for a very good reason. everything about this drama was simply and utterly perfect. it really is not your typical medical drama at all and i think the highlight of this drama is that, you wont experience a second-lead-syndrome and that is a total plus from me.

to everyone to plans on watching this then let me assure you, instead of regretting about watching this medical drama, you will instead regret not watching this drama in the first place.

for real though, im not one to be a fan of medical dramas but holy moly, this drama was an exception and i really did regret not watching it earlier. i finally get why everyone was hyping so much about it.

When I was younger there were 3 professions that I never considered as my future career - Law, Medicine, and Teaching. But if I watched this drama 10 years ago, I would have decided to become a doctor. The series was just so inspiring for me.

I have nothing bad to say about RDTK. Unlike the other medical dramas I've watched, the show focused on what the doctors dealt with and thought of behind their jobs. It showed conflicts and dilemmas when choosing decisions between morality/ethics and ambitions - and sometimes situations won't even give the right choice.

I love the romantic, funny, and heartbreaking scenes of the story. I can't count how many times I cried because some moments were just too heartbreaking for me. But overall, Romantic Doctor is heartwarming because it deals with loyalty, sacrifice, responsibilities, and becoming a better person.

It feels like attending a lecture of general surgery but in a relaxing way. This drama has a lot of medical cases in each episode. The quote that master Kim said was so touching. As a young doctor now, i always remember how a doctor should be through Master Kim. This is recomended!!!! If you are in a medical school or want to be a doctor, you should watch this :)

Kim Sabu and Nurse Oh met for the first time in 2002, at the police station, around the time Kim Sabu was kicked from Geodae Hospital. At the time Nurse Oh hasn't worked at Doldam, but another hospital. I assume that in 2011, when he found Dr Yoon at the mountain, he started work at Doldam with Dr Nam, and Nurse Oh followed shortly after that. Cmiiw

It was in episode 20 in the drawing Chairman Shin left for Kim Sabu. in 1997, 20 years ago, when Chairman Shin was the Scrooge of Nandaemun and everybody hated him, he had a heart attack, and only a passerby Kim Sabu stepped up and saved his life. That is why Chairman Shin trusted Kim Sabu so much and now presumably is going to help him build his Trauma Centre.

Every episode was well-written, it makes you always curious about what will happen next. I mean a lot of Korean dramas use popular actors to gain high ratings with ordinary plots. The ratings has proven it.

Sayyy May 03 2017 6:44 am This drama deserves a higher rating, i didn't expected that i would love this so much. It's my first time watching medical drama so i watch this without any expectations. It turns out that this is one of the best (k)drama i've ever watch. One of my fav thing about this is the cast, all of them did a great job in portraying their characters especially Han Seok Kyu as Master Kim. He's such a great actor and i love how he deliver his lines with so much feels. I'm also surprised bc they maintained the excitement and intense feeling from the beginning until the end, there's no downhill unlike other dramas where the beginning is the only interesting part. The chemistry of Seo Hyun Jin and Yoo Yeon Seok are also on point (not to mention the kissing scene on episode 1.) I want to see more of them, 21 episodes (including the special episode) isn't enough for a fan like me.

This is different from Another Miss Oh and I'm not that fan of medical dramas. (I've only watch 3 or 4?) but I was so surprised of how good this drama was! I couldn't even stop watching after the first ep. The last drama I watch completely last 2016 I think it's Another Miss oh? I watched UF and other k-dramas but I couldn't even complete it. It wad just I couldn't find any dramas now that made me feel like AMO, Six Flying Dragons etc.. I can say it is the best medical drama out of those 3 or 4 dramas I've watched. I fell in love with all the cast! Like it was like a real, everything felt real! Just like Master Kim said in their interview, that it was fake but they made it possible like it was so real and even the operating scene took them 20 hrs to film. I was so amazed with all the hardwork they portray. The chemistry between my Hyunjin and Yeonseok was so great!! Like I ship her more with yeo more than eric but no, the moment Yeonseok entered the game, it was now him and her. So I pray that this ship will last! They are so comfortable with each other even off-screen. I pray that they become real as a couple hahaha pls (delulu much) Overall I'm so sad that another GREAT drama is finished. I don't know what to do anymore. No more Seo Hyunjin ㅠㅠ I hope she'll have a successful 2017 and all the other cast too! I want them to be together again if possible ? I want to watch other dramas of them before, but I think it would be different. It's like they are a whole body that I can't replace or lose any part. I can't imagine now Hyunjin with different leading men ? what did you do to me Yeonseok aaaah. I will miss the CUT of Kim Sabu, The angry moment of Ms. Oh, Mr. Park voice and knight and shining armor moment, Do In Beom poker or angry face lol, Manager Jang so hyper and talkative personality, Mr. Nam and his restau, Yeonhwa's silently crushing with Dr. Kang and especially Dr. Yoon and Kang SO SWEET moments ? plus the Doldam hospital and even the likes of Pres. Do and Dr. Song ? Thank you so much SBS, the production, staffs and director for bringing such a wonderful drama! The storyline is simple and very entertaining w/o a lot of love drama mixed in, which I enjoy from time to time. It was more about the doctors themselves and how they deal with the patients. I was invested in the characters and what would happen next. I wish this would continue on b/c I would really watch another season if they make one!

It is also a wonderful 'closing' to imagine the beautiful tomorrows of ALL the couples: the leather-meets-satin sexy fiesty lady and her aegyo-so-cute lil fancypants+twinklyeyes mister duo, the cute giggly main young couple, the reunited-and-it-feels[and sounds, with the superb soundtrack!]-so-gooood romantics, and the triangle of curiosity around their Chinese-Korean doctor in her one-sided crush... lucky lady has the love at first site cutie Park but wants Kang Dong Joo? Say WHAT? Of course, the real couple to be=her and the arguing-turning-to-loving one... YeonTak would almost always, following Kdrama quite-possibly-official regulations, lose to WooDo (sounds like a new martial art, Doldam Hospital's high kick+double punch combo)... when only one side is attracted, it's always just one side in Kdramaland... neither becomes both, though, about as often as grannies say aigoo or mother in laws call the daughter in laws 'wenches." :P

Please don't tell me they won't be continuing the series. This is a drama that could run for years and I would watch every episode. Han Suk Kyu's comeback is triumphant, he even won the Daesang as Master Kim. Seo Hyun Jin is on a roll, first with Another Oh Hae Young, now with this drama, she's the one to look out for in the coming years. Kang Dong Joo is Yoo Yeon Seok's best performance to date, his performance is riveting. Yang Se Jong doesn't seem like he's a rookie. He fared well together with the rest of the actors. Jin Kyung, Lim Won Hee and Byeon Woo Mi were also at their finest and so was Kim Min Jae as Nurse Park. Congratulations RDTK! Side Note: It's a weekday drama (Mon and Tue) plus they set all sorts of crazy awesome records in viewership ratings.

The episodes are also consistent without being too draggy. Each of the characters were executed perfectly by the actors and actresses and were given their chance to grow through hardships. Yoo Yeon Seok honestly had me a little worried early on; Jeju Gatsby (Warm and Cozy) didn't give him much chance to show his skill, and next to Seo Hyun Jin, who rocked the socks off of the other-other Oh Hae Young recently and also performed fantastically elsewhere, all the way back to, maybe before, Feast of the Gods, I thought he might be, like with Jeju Gatsby, a prop for the female lead... he's thankfully done really well. Of Course, Han Suk Kyu deserved that grand prize and I hope he's honored at Paeksang, too, since he is BRILLIANT here.

Dr. Yoon is indeed a most attractive character in a great series: She brings out so well the mutliple contrasts between the scientific, fact-based nature of modern medical practice , its legal and hierarchical contexts and the fact that we all learn not only from logical analyses but also from our emotions.

Script-writer Kang Eun-Kyung does a beautiful job of developing each character; and each episode. She excels at bringing out the pyschological differences between the ways men and women react to the same situation. 

Actress Seo Hyun-JIn moves us all the time as Dr, Yoon Seo-Jung faces new professional and personal challenges. In fact  the acting is usually good to great, from leadig roles to minor parts.

I like that her positivity is actually changing the people around her and her determination as a doctor moved even the most eccentric Doctor Kim. Psychologically speaking, she is someone more driven by feeling than by thinking, which at times make her seem a little unprofessional, BUT I doubt we watch a medical drama hoping for a boring, ordinary doctor protagonist. She brings joy to the otherwise dull hospital setting felt with conflicts and politics.

And too noisy because they always argue and yelling all the time. For me, most of actors's acting are overacted and trying too hard except Mr. Han. He's the only one who looks natural and we all know the reason because he's veteran actor. The romance, I don't feel any chemistry between them. The lead guy (Yeon Seok) seems trying too hard while from the female actress, she looks give a gap. From the behind the scene alone, I think Seo Hyun Jin feels uncomfortable with Yoo Yeon Seok who seems too touchy. Directing and cinematography is okay. Other than that, I think it just a so-so and makjang medical drama.

However, I somehow ended up clicking on this drama during an evening I was just relaxing in bed. And then here I am, completely engrossed in this drama. Something about this drama is so captivating. I can't exactly pinpoint it, but I just really enjoy it. I can say that I am captivated by Teacher Kim. I am not a fan of Kang Dong Joo, but he's not a bad guy, so I'm looking forward to see him grow. I like Yoon Seo Jung. At first I thought she would be obnoxious, but she's awesome.

Looking forward to more episodes and yay to good ratings! I think it's well-deserved! ^^

The female lead and showdown between the doctors are the main saving points. The writers should be careful with the male lead's character. I think his image and chemistry with other characters are just too volatile. They could easily mess his character up with bad writings.

Other than that it's pretty generic. Just don't focus too much on the backstories then resolve those past problems with a lot of drama that would take tons of episodes (typical k-drama).

It's all purpose to give dramatic impression so the viewer become more tense and excited. The content this drama more about medical rather than love story between character doctor. The medical scene make as real as possible (but not mean 100% as in real life) to realize if work as doctor is not easy, because it bet with human's life. In this drama describe to how great the struggle of a doctor, not just a doctor that usually describe in other drama as a work which life with luxuriously. And word " Romantic doctor" mean like character kim sa bu which very close with his patient, he not just heal but also care the patient so get just a little hurt. How his mind very sincere in his work, not pursuit for material.

And the chemistry about couple not always portray with hug or kissing scene, but can with a little skinship or starring eyes. Chemistry can be feel how no awkwardness between couple, they like comfortable each other.

No chemistry between the young doctors. Yoo Yeon Sook seems hardly working to build the chemistry while Seo Hyun jin always looking half hearted. She seems more enjoying her scenes with Dr. Kim or other casts rather than he supposed to be love interest.

The direction is perfect, the script is so good, the dialogue's are so meaningful; this has to be a must watch. Even little details like the titles of each episode is so thoughtful. Love how the romance is the side plot but it still intertwines with the main plot.

The only thing that made me hesitate to start watching this show is the title 'Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim'; it makes sense after watching the 4th episode. But they could just name it Master Kim or something, the title is so cheesy when this whole drama follows quite a serious plot. But please don't let the title hold you back, watch it! It's that good and the cast is brilliant!

They have a good casting and I cant say for now if they have an interesting plot bcoz Ive just seen 2 episodes I will just wait every week to know if it is as good as other medical drama i've seen. Top Team), Militar/Volunteer MD (DOTS), Autistic MD (Good Doctors) and even Vampire MD (Blood) and of course the unremarkable Dr. Yong Pal :)

I also didn't feel the two leads in Doctors had any chemistry whatsoever. The last episode, I just fastforwarded so I could see the conclusion. Was not really interested but I already invested so many hours in it.

I may try this series for one or two episodes and see how I feel then.

It'll be great if Shin Min-Ah/Song Ji Hyo be offered the role. Love both of them very much and well everyone who sees his acting should've known thst Han Suk Kyu slays everytime:)
