And another thing...
I've recently seen a few incidents that troubled me more about the Heely shoes.
Instead of skating around in public unsupervised, I've seen children with Heely's actually grab their parent's arms and make their parent roll them around! I suppose it allows the parent the ability to direct their child to where they want to go, but whatever happened to just telling them?

Hi I'm New, let the hazing begin.
I just joined and I wanted to give my 2 cents.
I'm an elementary school teacher and I've actually had this conversation with my 4th grade students:
"Okay minions, you aren't allowed to wear Heely's to school. However you've seen a few kids from other classes wear them. They are probably already in big trouble. If we happened to be walking and then see someone fall and hurt themselves and they were wearing Heelys, you aren't allowed to point and laugh at them and yell, "That's what you get!" However, I will temporarily become deaf and blind until we are pass them and get someone to run for the school nurse."
One of my students, a precious little angel, then asked, "Can we send a really slow runner to the nurse's office?"
Yes, I actually do call my students "Minions" also "Henchpersons," "Shirmplings," "Anklebiters" and they work their way up to be called, "Sidekick."
*****
Like many I suppose who joined this community, it's not so much the actual Heely shoes that annoy me, it's the parents who bought them and then refuse to parent. I wonder if there's a greater percentage of children with Heely's AND lost fingers due to unsupervised fireworks accidents.
Heely's and their abuse in public represent everything that annoys me as a teacher. Spoiled children that do not have parents that can say, "No" or set limits, or teach responsibility.
There are those that say we can't make everything safe and bubble wrap our kids. That's true, but whatever happened to being good parents.

Oh and here's a new link to the 1600 Roller Shoe Accidents Story. The previous link didn't work.

We have been vindicated. Yes the media and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons have realized that Heelys are dangerous.
The following article from Yahoo News is very interesting and it shows that the Heely Monsters are not just an American problem, those shoes are used and causing problems world wide.
The article does show that there still are parents that have some sense when it comes to their kids safety and welfare. But the scary part is the company has landed atop BusinessWeek's annual list of fastest growing companies this can't be good for us or the children who slide though our lives, stores, malls, and playgrounds.

Damn Heelys
Hi! New to this community. I'd originally posted this over in
customers_suck and someone directed me to this comm.
Some kid managed to scuff up one entire side of our store with those damn Heeley shoes. We have hardwood floors in our store, and at the end of the night one of my coworkers was mopping up all the dirt and debris someone managed to track in. After she got all that cleaned up, we discovered that there were Heeley scuff marks all over one side of the store. Front door to back. *headdesk*

Firstly...thank you god that someone made this community. ^_^ I've heard so many horror stories involved with these damn skate shoes in other communities it's scary.
I work in a department store. We haven't really had any problems with Heeleys but to err on cautions side I've asked my manager what to do if I saw kids on them in the store.
Me: *Sees an entire HERD of kids on the damn things skating past my dept*
Me: *flicks on radio* (yes we wear headsets) "Hey Manager..what's our policy on Heelies?"
Manager: "Why?"
Me: "There's an entire herd of kids skating on them..they're heading towards mens. Can I ask them to stop?"
Manager: "Absolutely."
I really don't understand why people get so pissy if you ask their kid to stop skating. We don't allow bikes, rollerblades or skateboards in the store..how are Heelies any different? To those stores who make announcements over their PA systems about not skating in the stores I salute you! ^_^
To increase my pain even more I work in the shoe department of my store. So I get about 10 "Do you sell Heelies?" phonecalls every freaking day.
"No we don't. And we never will." And if we evervdo....I quit.
