Feeling the Potter Love
Dec. 29th, 2005 10:37 pmIt seems that the HP world is hot right now. I mean, hotter than usual.
- The GoF movie is on a pace to significantly outperform CoS and PoA at the box office.
- HBP was voted favorite book of the year by USA Today readers.
- Entertainment Weekly voters gave Harry a double crown -- they voted HBP the best book of the year and GoF the best movie of the year.
- Harry Potter dominated online blogs:
I think Rowling's longevity -- keeping her position atop the popular culture buzz charts from 1998 or so through 2005 SO FAR -- is probably her most amazing accomplishment. Who else has ever stayed that hot that long?

- Harry Potter dominated online blogs:
Fictional character Harry Potter led President George W. Bush as a source of personality "buzz" among bloggers in 2005, according to BlogPulse.com. Potter was mentioned in 5.5% of all blog posts in mid-July, when Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince book was published, and in 2.5% of blog posts in January and November, respectively, when the Goblet of Fire movie trailer and film premiered.
Blog references to the President peaked at about 3% in early September when Hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. Gulf Coast. But Potter managed to generate higher and more consistent levels of discussion throughout the rest of the year.
