Feeling the Potter Love
Dec. 29th, 2005 10:37 pmIt seems that the HP world is hot right now. I mean, hotter than usual.
- The GoF movie is on a pace to significantly outperform CoS and PoA at the box office.
- HBP was voted favorite book of the year by USA Today readers.
- Entertainment Weekly voters gave Harry a double crown -- they voted HBP the best book of the year and GoF the best movie of the year.
- Harry Potter dominated online blogs:
I think Rowling's longevity -- keeping her position atop the popular culture buzz charts from 1998 or so through 2005 SO FAR -- is probably her most amazing accomplishment. Who else has ever stayed that hot that long?

- Harry Potter dominated online blogs:
Fictional character Harry Potter led President George W. Bush as a source of personality "buzz" among bloggers in 2005, according to BlogPulse.com. Potter was mentioned in 5.5% of all blog posts in mid-July, when Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince book was published, and in 2.5% of blog posts in January and November, respectively, when the Goblet of Fire movie trailer and film premiered.
Blog references to the President peaked at about 3% in early September when Hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. Gulf Coast. But Potter managed to generate higher and more consistent levels of discussion throughout the rest of the year.

Date: 2005-12-30 05:24 am (UTC)2005 was the only year with both a movie and a book, which goes a long way towards explaining why it was so big.

I wonder if she'll do an interview for the DVD???

Date: 2005-12-30 07:11 pm (UTC)So true! Staying power is one of the toughest things to accomplish. She seems to have her toe dipped in every sector from Pop Culture to film to literary circles. When one fades out, the other steps forward.
So, where will she be seen this year? There hasn't been a court case in a while. She could hype up the e-bay thing, David could divorce her and try to get half her fortune, or perhaps someone truly will sue her for the emotional damage following HBP. Got to keep yourself fresh, you know. :P

Date: 2005-12-30 08:18 pm (UTC)Perhaps for the mainstream it did, but that seemed to be the time that the fandom really built up, and the media noticed it. There seems to be tidbits about fandom all the time now. Did you see this one? The gates are open!
