anenkoHe Qun had looks and charm. He also had talent, which made Vincent’s job easier, but wasn’t strictly necessary. Vincent had created stars out of far less. He Qun had potential--and under Vincent’s guiding hand, He Qun would dominate the entertainment industry before he graduated school.
Vincent had staked his pride on He Qun, but seeing He Qun succeed wasn’t solely a matter of protecting his ego. Vincent believed in He Qun; he even liked the younger man. As rare as it was to find a client with true talent, it was rarer yet to find one that Vincent liked as a person.
Liking He Qun made Vincent’s job. . . difficult. He Qun was a good kid, and good kids didn’t survive the industry unscathed. He Qun couldn’t be ruthless, and balked at the small cruelties that served as the stepping stones to stardom. Vincent’s morals were flexible, and he hadn’t made a name for himself as a star-maker for being nice.

I had some trouble with him at first, because of inviting Rita and Xiao Shi to that party, and not warning anyone, but this is a very neat way to characterize him. I do think he was rather torn about some of the choices he made for He Qun's future.

Date: 2008-08-05 09:53 pm (UTC)Thank you! I had a hard time with Vincent, too. He would do something really cool, and then an episode later he'd pull a completely jerky move. Vincent has a tough job, but I still wanted to smack him from time to time (omg, the last episode!)
also! i finally took at stab at that pic and made my own icon! YAY SMILING PASTA!

I hate making icons/bases, but there are some series where I'm forced to rely on my own meager skills. So frustrating.

I know! And some of the things mentioned in that article are so very different from the Japanese media's version of sex and flirting--how many series involve our hero/ine making a public love confession? Lots. Based only on manga/anime/jdramas, I'd thought that Japanese girls were surprisingly brave in the romance department.

Date: 2008-08-05 11:48 pm (UTC)and there is at least one completely inadvertent butt grab when she starts to slip and he has to boost her back up to try again from a ledge, or something.
oh, and the kitten, which she went up there to get and then forgot all about in her terror. she starts moaning and kicking herself about it when they're finally down..abandoning the poor thing like that! he'll starve!
..and then Shin's shirt squeaks.
