Seen many, many places on the flist: When you see this, quote something from Doctor Who.
"D'you know like we were saying? About the Earth revolving? It's like when you're a kid, the first time they tell you that the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it because everything looks like it's standing still. I can feel it- the turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour and the entire planet is hurtling around the Sun at sixty-seven thousand miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're falling through space, you and me. Clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go....
That's who I am.
Now forget me, Rose Tyler. Go home."
Also? *FLAILING SO HARD RIGHT NOW FROM 4x11* IS IT NEXT WEEK YET??? HOW ABOUT NOW?
I'm hoping to go to the drive-in tonight to see Iron Man and Indiana Jones! It's currently pouring buckets, but I'm remaining optimistic that it might stop or go back to spitting like it was earlier in the day. I've not seen either of these movies yet (yes, I'm aware that I'm one of the only people on my flist) and I'm really excited to see them on the big scene!
I have a Gossip Girl playlist in my itunes library now, and it's making the music-loving side of me happy. Am collecting songs by episode, and I'm only up to episode 2 at the moment but I also have Blair's playlist and the songs played in the promos 1), 2), 3), 4), 5). Not an official CW trailer but ooh, this fan-made trailer is quite good.
I've slowly been catching up with Doctor Who and have now finished up to 4.06, "The Doctor's Daughter". I'm really enjoying this season so far- ( Collapse )
And connected to Doctor Who - I still have the season finale of Torchwood on my computer, and it's unwatched. But I know what happens and while I think I'll watch it someday... ( Collapse )
Okay, off to the drive-in! (or an attempt, in any case)
So... half of this entry is from yesterday, but then power went out in residence last night and so I didn't get to finish.
Today it properly felt like spring. 15 degrees and while it rained in the morning, by 4:00 it was beautiful and sunny outside. It probably smelt like spring too since I'm all stuffed up and sounding like a foghorn every time I blow my nose, any sense of smell is pretty much gone at the moment.
Then again, I can still taste enough to be able to tell that the London Fog I attempted to make with Earl Grey decaf tea and international coffee (french vanilla) didn't work out so well. Hmmm, back to the drawing board.
I'm still horribly behind on fandom things, but I did manage to catch a few clips of the Creation Con, which confirmed three things for me 1) that Sandy and Jared are adorable together 2) that the supporting cast for SPN is plain awesome and 3) despite thisl my embarrassment squick is still big enough that I don't think I'd ever go to a con with actors. But from what I did see, it looked like fun. Only two weeks until new episodes! :D
I also got caught up with both BSG and Doctor Who:
Need to get caught up on the last three episodes of Torchwood. From what I've heard, they're good eps but the last one is really provoking strong reaction? Meep. :| Hopefully I'll catch up with it on the weekend (in between studying).
All right, off to a birthday party now (even though I should probably be studying).
My mom told me she was watching 'Kinky Feet' and I immediately googled it without thinking. WHOA. Did not need to know about that kind of feet fetishes. o.O Anyway, apparently she had the title wrong and she was watching 'Kinky Boots'. I watched some of it with her and aww, such a cute movie. And Chiwetel Ejiofor has absolutely gorgeous lips, especially with that kind lipstick on them. He is very pretty as a drag queen.
Heh, my dad is now watching John from Cincinnati. I love how he tears into a show for an hour straight and yet will come back and watch it the next week, picking out the same flaws. You guys who think you nitpick shows? Have nothing on my dad. ;)
Registration for school is tomorrow and I have my schedule picked out, finally. Somehow I ended up with both Tuesdays and Fridays off first semester and Fridays off for second semester. \o/ My other days are insane and I still have to balance swimming, work, and volunteering but eh, I think I'll manage. And I've booked my flight back already too. But I'm not thinking about that yet as it is still summer!
Replying to the meme from Saturday:
nekare asked me: Talk about what a slutboi alien that Doctor is and how he's most probably shagged everyone that ever entered the TARDIS (except for Susan and Adric, of course, because eww.)
See, this is where I'm glad I boned (er, no pun intended) up on my Doctor Who history on the weekend and read the entire Wikipedia entry on the show. I agree that Adric perhaps not so much, but what's a little intergeneration lovin' .... Actually, wait, have just thought this statement through more thoroughly. Erm, nevermind. No Susan/Doctor lovin' unless it is strictly platonic!
Anyway, I have to say, I'm interested in this idea and would like to subscribe to the newsletter, but I would need some more evidence to conclusively talk about this point. Ahem.
*waits for recs* ;) But pleez no Doctor/K9, thx.
But seriously- I have to say that while I do think the Doctor loves/loved all his Companions, maybe depending on where he is in his immense lifetime, he expresses it more er... physically. Heh. And I do think the Tardis could have some... kinky stories to tell. Hee.
And off topic, before I became aware of Doctor Who through my flist, my only other exposure to it was on BBC kids, where it was the (2nd?) Doctor and a young Scottish Highlander named Jamie. And now whenever I think back on it, I can't help but think of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and Jamie Fraser, even though I know they aren't the same character. (I think Gabaldon did name the character after Doctor Who though?) Or maybe that's just my brain trying to make sense of it.
tsuki_no_bara asked: so tell us about pie charts. :D or just pie, whichever turns you on.
Well, I'm not a fan of pie charts so I shall ramble on instead about pie. The best pie in the world is strawberry rhubarb pie. Especially when it is followed by dinner of fresh lobster. Yum! I'm a fan of other kinds of pies though too, especially pumpkin pie and lemon meringue. And I know this may be sacrilege, but I'm not really all that keen on the classic apple pie. Sure, I'll eat it if it's there, but if I have the choice between it and something chocolately, I will choose the chocolate every time.
I am sunburnt all down one side, and not the other. Hrmph. But it was a beautiful day outside and I enjoyed every minute of it. And it finally got above 20 degrees! I know I've heard most people complaining on my flist about the hot weather, but here, we've been lucky if we've seen any sun at all or if it goes above 18 degrees (that's celsius, btw). Hopefully the warmer weather will arrive soon, as I want to go to the beach.
Work tomorrow. Boo 'cause it's on Canada Day, but on the bright side-- I get paid double time and a half, which will translate into a nice paycheck.

I'm not getting lj comments at the moment, so if you commented on any post beyond my latest few, I might have missed you. Let me know if I don't get back to you!
DOCTOR! No, I haven't seen the season 3 finale. But I did watch the Christmas Invasion and New Earth last night and this morning. Mmmm, I'm liking David Tennant as the Doctor, and yeah, as people pointed out, he is different as the Doctor. And I still love Rose.
Lastly, and I'm not sure how many people will see this, given it's a Saturday night-- but maybe some people will want to play.
give me a topic - fannish, political, religious, whatever - and I'll post about it. Maybe a sentence, maybe paragraph, maybe a multi-part post complete with pie charts...IF YOU'RE LUCKY.
Woke up this morning to a snowy, sleety, grey sort of day. But since I don't have to be anywhere, I don't mind so much, since I have a maha chai on hand, a bag of popcorn, and a free afternoon. Okay, technically I should be studying but... eh, my first exam isn't until next Wednesday.
ETA: Now I know why I haven't heard much about it. It's because Showtime locks out any non-American IP from visiting their website. Completely, can't even get to the homepage. Wow- that's remarkably draconian. Hrmmph.
Also, like I need to add another show. I'm thinking this one will have to wait until the summer.
But, speaking of new tv shows- I finally started watching Doctor Who on the weekend. ( Collapse )
As well on the weekend, my cousin and I watched 'Blood and Chocolate'. The best description of it that I've seen of it is this: 'It's just like the book, except for the parts that they change everything except the names and the fact that Vivian falls in love with a meat boy.'
Wow- and some authors complain about fanfiction writers harming their precious babies, raping their canon and all that stuff. This is goes almost beyond what the newest 13-year old Mary Sue writer would do. 'Hmm. I don't like that character. Let's kill her off. I don't like that ending, so I'm going to write my own.'
I don't think I've ever seen a book-adapted movie stray so completely from the book canon. If I were Annette Curtis Klause, I'd be pissed that the screenplay writers basically took my title, character names, and popularity among young adult genre readers and wrote their own story, completely changing the main message.
I'm sure she was paid well for the rights, and that she didn't have much input on how they were going to change it... but what was wrong with the original story in the first place?
