doctor who, gossip girl, torchwood...
I'm hoping to go to the drive-in tonight to see Iron Man and Indiana Jones! It's currently pouring buckets, but I'm remaining optimistic that it might stop or go back to spitting like it was earlier in the day. I've not seen either of these movies yet (yes, I'm aware that I'm one of the only people on my flist) and I'm really excited to see them on the big scene!
I have a Gossip Girl playlist in my itunes library now, and it's making the music-loving side of me happy. Am collecting songs by episode, and I'm only up to episode 2 at the moment but I also have Blair's playlist and the songs played in the promos 1), 2), 3), 4), 5). Not an official CW trailer but ooh, this fan-made trailer is quite good.
I've slowly been catching up with Doctor Who and have now finished up to 4.06, "The Doctor's Daughter". I'm really enjoying this season so far-
I'm enjoying Donna as the companion, so so much. She's down to earth, practical, funny and not afraid to call the Doctor on his bullshit. She's good for him, and exactly what he needs after Rose and Martha. Pure, platonic friendship, although it's still rather fun to see them attempt to explain to people that no, they really are just friends.
All the episodes have been super-strong, story and plot-wise this season too- there haven't been any duds for me, although "The Fires of Pompeii" was the weakest, I think. I think I'm never going to enjoy the historical Who episodes, no matter what. Perhaps because I'm always comparing them to 'the Empty Child' and 'The Doctor Dances'.
I loved seeing the Oods again, and the Sontarans were pretty fun too.
You know what the writers of Doctor Who are rather good at? Giving us sympathetic supporting characters, who you know are just the designated 'red shirts' (or in the best case, red herring shirts) and yet you can't help but cheer for them and want them to escape the inevitable death that seems to follow the Doctor. For example: Ross Jenkins, from 'The Sontaran Strategm' and 'The Poison Sky'. (Plus, he was rather easy on the eyes too)
*SIGH* I wanted the Doctor to take him along for a ride in the TARDIS.
I'm liking the Doctor more this season too- and I think I'm understanding more of where he's coming from with his history and how it shapes his beliefs. Especially in 'The Doctor's Daughter'. And on that note- I really liked Jenny too. I hope we see her again.
And connected to Doctor Who - I still have the season finale of Torchwood on my computer, and it's unwatched. But I know what happens and while I think I'll watch it someday... I think I haven't watched it yet, because I don't want to see Tosh and Owen die. Well, okay, I guess I was prepared for Owen, but not for Tosh. It's kind of weird- I've watched other shows before where my favourite characters have died, but this time.. eh, I don't know. Someday I'll watch it, I'm sure.
Okay, off to the drive-in! (or an attempt, in any case)
