Hi! I'm Holly! (she/her) Welcome to my journal!
Mostly, I like to do a lot of writing, ranging from fanfic (check out my ao3 account here) to recaps, reviews, and summaries of things I really enjoy (visit my website for older reviews and recaps here, though I'm no longer updating the site).
I generally like any kind of Japanese media I can get my hands on. But a few fandoms I'm perennially interested in include Avatar the Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist, My Hero Academia, Star Trek Voyager (and other 90s Trek series), Stargate SG-1, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Yu Yu Hakusho. I'm also into a few Gundam series (namely IBO and G-witch), and my current interest is Tokusatsu. But you'll probably find me rambling about plenty of other series/movies/etc around here too. Check out the tags if you're looking for something specific!
I'm also a longtime listener of Japanese music. I started off enjoying opening and ending themes from different anime back when I was in high school, and I branched out from there. I like anything from old visual kei to boy bands to all-girl j-metal bands.

1. What would you do right now, if money were not an issue?
Pay off my house and car. That would be so nice... (a girl can dream lol)
2. What would you do for the next three years, if money were not an issue?
To be really honest, I would just increase my collection of physical media. I do not ask for much 😅
3. What is bringing you the most joy right now that requires little or no money?
Writing! It's my favorite hobby that basically requires no money. I'm having a lot of fun with several different ideas right now
4. What types of things do you find enjoyable that require no money?
Other than writing, I think board games and card games are fun. I don't have anyone to play with at the moment, except family. (Maybe I can organize family board game night soon 🤔). I also think it's fun to go to free local festivals and browse around.
5. Is there anything you've been meaning to do for a long time, but put off because of money?
I've been thinking about some short travels around the state, but that costs gas money, food money, hotel money etc 😩 But that's okay because I'm content at home too.

Currently watching: as you can guess from above, I'm rewatching Megaranger again 😁
Current obsession: Gokusen! I've been thinking about a fic I want to write (featuring the two main guys from season 3) for a solid week now. Maybe I'll actually start on it soon. Gokusen was just so fun.

Currently working on: I've been steadily working on mypod_together fic this week. Making good progress! I'm also trying to write something for precuretokuprompt and another thing for beagoldfish which might also get crossposted to toku100challenge if I can get the wordcount to work out
Currently wearing: the same thing I wore to work: a sleeveless red flowery top (it has pockets!) and black leggings. I'm about to put my pjs on tho 😊

Favorite flower: there are a lot of wild orange daylillies that bloom on the side of the road here every summer. I love them the most!

To me, however, it feels like it's been at least five years 😅 It's a series I still think about so much that it feels like I've just always been a fan of it.

Welcome back to licensing hell, Sentai
Jul. 2nd, 2026 12:59 pmAs a follow-up to the Sentai stuff in this post last week, Sentai seasons are no longer available on Tokushoutsu's streaming channel anymore either. And it appears they've let their license expire.
So here in the US, there’s no legal way to watch Sentai anymore. Unless you buy the DVDs, of course. Which are out of print and will probably start getting expensive now. (I'm so glad I bought Megaranger on DVD last year when it was on sale.)
I'm annoyed about this news, because legal methods were a lot easier to watch for me than pirating. But on the other hand, it's not like Tokushoutsu was giving us the more recent seasons anyway. I think it would be nice for Discotek to get the license because they always include a lot of neat special features on their dvds/blurays. But someone with a (free) streaming option would be nice too!
Anyway, I wonder how long Tokushoutsu will manage to hold onto their Kamen Rider license... 😩

Multiple things:
☆ they took all the Sentai series off of Tubi 😡😭 I was still watching Gingaman!! (Okay, tbf, it's all still available on Tokushoutsu's streaming channel, and I have, uh, other places I could watch. But still! Tubi was the most convenient. So this is annoying.) Power Rangers, however, is still available on Tubi for now. So I can continue my plan to (re)watch Lightspeed Rescue after Gingaman.
☆ for anyone's who's been keeping up with my with monthly writing goals, I finally FINALLY wrote an ending today to the zukka fic I started on in January 😂 I've got a little bit of editing left to do and I'm still tossing around some titles, but I should have it posted this weekend 🤞
☆ Ultraman Teo starts next Friday! I am very much looking forward to having something to watch every Friday again 😊 I would be watching the special preview video on YouTube right now but it's currently region-locked... *sigh* (it is a glitch and not intentional. But still... *sigh*) Maybe by the time I post this it'll be fixed

And somewhere along the way, he compared the World Cup to the Dark Tournament from Yu Yu Hakusho 😂 (He was insinuating some rigging with the group match-ups.) And so we continued to bullshit around like this:
Me: okay, so which team had to take a boat to America and kill all the other teams to secure the coveted last spot?
Brother: uh... Cape Verde probably
Me: And which team is getting trapped in the medical tent under false pretenses with an evil nurse?
Brother: I'm gonna go with Belgium
Are any of these accurate assessments? I have no clue, but I had a good (much-needed) laugh anyway. We can and will take any opportunity to talk about the Dark Tournament arc because it's our favorite (and the best) YYH arc 😁

Signups are open forfandomgiftbasket here. Hopefully I'll have time to think about signing up this week. But if not, that's okay.
I've been binge-watching Gokusen while I had access to my brother's Netflix account this week. I haven't watched it in 15 or so years, so it's been a good distraction. I love how unashamedly silly this show is. I will maybe write a full post about the series eventually but if you like cheesy heartfelt speeches, high school delinquents with hearts of gold, and silly yakuza tropes, this is the drama for you.
Weekly TV post is here. Also, Akane-banashi wrapped up the season yesterday, though my review for the last episode won't be up until next Saturday, but I'm happy to hear that it's getting a season 2 which will begin airing in January.
I briefly had the chance yesterday to post an Ultraman Arc rec totokurecs here.
And that's it. I don't really wanna talk about offline stuff at the moment since it has to do with family medical stuff. But anyway, we're hanging in there. I may be around this coming week or I may not.
Regardless, I'm wishing everyone a good week ahead.

Friday Five answers (6/12/26)

1. What is place you have visited, or want to visit, that starts with D?
I've been to Durham, North Carolina a few times, mostly for not-fun reasons. I'd like to go back eventually and explore whatever fun stuff/historical stuff/etc they have there
2. What is a food that you like, or don't like, that starts with R?
I'm a big fan of rice! My college roommate gave me her rice cooker when we graduated, and I'm still using it. It makes things so easy
3. Own anything that starts with the letter M?
I have an assortment of fun mugs even though I'm not a coffee drinker. I just put water in them
4. Know anyone whose name (first, middle, or last) that starts with N?
There was a Natalie in my class in school, and a Nathan in my brother's class. I have nothing exciting to share about them
5. Favorite movie, book, TV show, or song whose title starts with T?
Favorites are too hard to pick, so I'll go with what popped in my head first: Turn A Gundam (is this answer cheating because it actually starts with an upside down A? 😂)
Anyway, Turn A Gundam is one of the best Gundam series I've ever seen. I wish I could watch it again sometime. It's a really moving story that, in my opinion, embodies what Gundam is all about. (Plus, there is a tiny moment where you can see a map of the southeastern United States in the background of one episode 😁 I posted about it once here)

Today was the annual local 4-H livestock show, so I went out to take some photos for work. It's in a barn without air conditioning, so it's always stupidly hot 😩 We did have a nice breeze coming through for a while until they had to close the barn doors for the cattle part of the competition (so they don't spook the cows). We actually had four cows this year! Usually it's just one or two.
Anyway, the kids all did great this year, even with a few uncooperative animals. The hogs are always the funniest to watch because they Do Not Care about anything and move at their own pace. I love watching the littlest kids lead around goats and lambs that are basically the same size as them. So cute 😊
In other news, the fourth time was the charm for myintoabar fic. I restarted writing from scratch again, and things are finally clicking 🥳 I don't expect anyone to read it, but I'm just so thrilled about this mash-up of characters. I love exploring commonalities and differences between characters from different fandoms. Crossovers are so neat. I'm having fun with it! I hope to work on it a bit more before bed tonight. (Though I'm tired enough to doze off in the middle of it right now)
I'm also trying to finish something short forfemslashfete this week too 🤞
Lastly, I was really craving pizza yesterday because I haven't had any in a long time. And then coincidentally, Mom called me tonight and said she had some leftover pizza from lunch if I wanted it. Of course I did!!
I wonder if I think really hard about milkshakes, I can manifest someone buying me one this weekend 🤔😂
