I'm feeling a silly sense of accomplishment. I managed to hit green lights all the way down Airport Way from the Mitchell to Cushman where I turned. Whooo! XD
Students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks are protesting a series of speaking engagements by Edward Delgado a so called "ex-gay" evangelist. Brought in as a guest speaker by the Campus Bible Ministries Mr. Delgado will give 14 lectures titled “From Sin’s Bondage to Christ’s Freedom" on his claim that through reading the Bible he magically journeyed from being gay to becoming a heterosexual.
ANGRY YOUNG AND POOR IS TOMORROW! 12PM to 12AM Ester Community Park on the Old Nenana Highway (off the Parks Highway near the Blue Loon). A family friendly event! It's even a fund-raiser for a non-profit (even though it's FREE admission)!
Some friends and I were walking along the paths of Creamer's Field. I was lamenting to them that in all the years that I've lived here, I have never seen a frog in Alaska yet. As soon as I finished saying that, I look down...lo and behold, a lonely frog just sitting there looking up at us. I wanted to cry, the awesomeness of that moment for me was so intense.
I'm currently considering relocating to Fairbanks for a position at UAF. I live in Los Angeles currently. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to look for apartments (edit: in what areas in addition to any websites), shipping or hauling my worldly possessions, car issues, and anything else of which you can think. My grandparents lived in Kodiak when I was younger so I vaguely remember one trip up and down the Alaska highway helping them move back to Southern California.
I grew up in a small town so the idea of living in a city smaller than LA doesn't phase me. Is there anyone who moved up to Fairbanks alone like I might? What cell phone service does everyone use?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ETA: One of the places I noticed in the Newsminer was this property company. Any opinions?
Does anyone know if there is a place in town that recycles magazines? I've done some reasearch and while we do have some places that recycle (news to me) there was nothing specifying magazines. Any help would be great!
