Study Abroad in Ghana, Summer 2009

The main brochure for this upcoming trip is available online.  It is in pdf format, which can be opened with Adobe Reader or Acrobat.  Printed hard copies of the main brochure and preliminary applications are also available in the department.

Read The Main Brochure!

Students will spend 4 weeks in Ghana during the Summer Session I (June 1 - July 2) semester.  The basic cost for the program (which includes round-trip airfare, room, two meals a day, insurance, and transportation in Ghana) will be about $2,500, not including tuition.  Preliminary applications (and $100 deposit) should be submitted to the office as soon as possible, definitely before March 31st.  The initial deposit is non-refundable after April 15, 2009.

There are no specific classes being offered.  The trip is essentially an elective six-credit course which includes informal lectures (of various topics) by the attending professor, as well as independent study by the students themselves, and visits to museums, historic sites, parks, markets, and cultural centers.  Our program is listed as accepted under the STOCS competitive financial aid grant.  You can find and request more information about STOCS at the STOCS Page at CUNY.

Also, since the trip is considered an actual academic course, non-Brooklyn College CUNY students would have to apply to the college as a "visiting CUNY e-permit student", and non-CUNY college students would apply as a regular "visiting student".  More information on this can be found on the Visiting Student Info Page.  Please contact your institution's Admissions Office/Registrar for eligibility questions.

Lastly, feel free to contact the department if you have any more questions.
