Now, I have to share this quote from my sister on Facebook: "I turned the tv on, and I saw a bunch of little boys playing baseball. They were throwing balls away, kicking balls away, missing catches, being confused about when to hit. It was adorable....until I looked closer and realized it was the Phillies. Ouch."
Yep. That pretty much sums up the Phillies season so far. They brought me such joy over the last few years. I don't want to have to get used to mediocre, boring Phillies again. D:
Went to the Phillies game last night with my sister. We had field seats right down the third base line. They were awesome, but I won't be sitting there again. Too many foul balls sent that way. Still, I can say I did that. It was a fun time. Oh, and the Phillies won with a score of 1-0. Yeah, it was pretty much a game for pitching. In fact, Michael Stutes has officially made it here. After a phenomenally pitched ninth inning in relief, the crowd chanted "Stuuuuu." First time ever the crowd did that, and I was a part of it. Cool. :)
Apparently we were seen on tv. A friend of my sister's told her. That makes me cringe. Oy. Also, the Phillie Phanatic hugged me. Second time in my life I've been hugged by that green ball of fuzz. Best mascot ever.
In other sports related news, I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about all the recent Flyers changes. That's all I'm going to say about that. Otherwise I'd be writing a novel right now.
In non-sports related news, my left knee is killing me. The pain was so bad last night when I got home that I was in tears. Not an exaggeration. I hate my knees a lot.
I have not posted a quote of the day in such a long time, but the twitter exchange I had with my friend Crissy earlier today amused me enough to do so tonight. You see, she loves Chicago sports, I love Philly sports, and sometimes we taunt each other.
It all started with me complaining about the stupid FOX announcers during the Phillies/Cubs game earlier.
Me: Dear FOX announcers, stop talking about Blackhawks winning Stanley Cup last year during a Phillies game. Even if the Cubs are their opponent.
Crissy: Hahahahahahahahaha
Me: Just more proof that the FOX announcers suck.
Later on after the game ended with a Phillies victory:
Me: I enjoy a game in which my fave player has 4RBIs and the pitcher goes 8 innings with only 1ER. Awesome.
Crissy: Yeah, but did your team win the Stanley Cup last year? *duck*
Me: Did your baseball team win a World Series at all since 1908!!
Crissy: Well, there's no need to pick on the disabled. ;-)
Ugh, woke up today with ear pain. It was just my right ear at first. Then both hurt. Plus, I had a sore throat. I was afraid it was the start of a sinus infection again, but the pain is all gone now. Except for the sinus headache. Ugh.
The game last night was so great and fun! Last year when I went to a game, the Phillies won 10-1. This time, I got to witness a classic pitcher's duel. Roy Halladay pitched a nine inning shut out and Travis Wood of the Reds had a perfect game going until giving up a double in the ninth. Eventually the Phils won in the eleventh when Rollins got a walk-off single, getting Ruiz home. And the Phillies made club history when they won in extra innings for the third time in a row in a walk-off manner.
I love offensive games because they are fun, but a pitcher's duel leading to extra innings is just as fun to me. It's certainly filled with more tension! Also, I have a great appreciation for fantastic pitching. Getting to see Halladay pitch in person was so so awesome.
Anyway, it was a fun time, and I am hoping my boys win today, sweeping the Reds. This would be a fine way to head into the All-Star break.
There was record attendance as the Flyers game last night. The most for any hockey game ever played in Pennsylvania. Dude, they beat Penguins fans!! Holy crap.
That win last night was amazing. And very much needed in this town since the Phillies are sucking so bad right now. I have no doubt they will get out of this slump they're in (they always do), but they are not entertaining when they play like this. The Flyers? So entertaining.
The Flyers lost, but I am not worried. The score was 6-5 for one thing. Some people probably thought the Blackhawks would have it easy. The Flyers surely proved that wrong.
Roy Halladay lessened the disappointment severely by pitching a perfect game tonight for the Phillies. Fantastic. Um...I might have sniffled a little. Totally allergies.
And now the meme. This one is kinda epic because I could not choose just one.
Wheeee, the Flyers are still in the playoffs! Holy crap, they played awesome tonight! You go boys!
Also, I am going to a Phillies game July 10. My brother got me tickets for my birthday. It's not until next week, but he wanted to make sure I didn't have plans that day. Hee. The seats aren't as good as last year, but they're pretty good considering it's so damn hard to get tickets now.
A little late with this, probably, but I just didn't feel like being online much today until now.
I am still slightly disappointed that the Phillies did not win the World Series, but it is not crushing. It would have been more so had they not won last year. It was not a fluke that they won last year as some like to believe. If it was, they would not have been there this year. They would not have won three straight NL East titles either. They are just a damn good team and I am proud of them. They made it to back-to-back Wold Series, something an NL team has not done since the 70s. They did this with an injury-ridden bullpen, a very inconsistent closer, and some starting pitching problems. So that tells you how talented this team is. The Yankees just played better in the World Series, so congrats to them and their fans, the classy ones.
I invested a lot in this team. They were enjoyable to watch this season and made me happy. And they will be good for years. I am a little sad that there won't be baseball games to watch until April. Bring on Spring Training!
Go Flyers! That's the only team left playing that I care about. :D
