  2. Entries must be posted here in the TwistedShorts Community or be a reply to the 2022 August Fic-A-Day Challenge located on the main site to be counted.

  3. Post more than one a day if you want, but only one fic per 24 hours counts toward the challenge. Backdating stories is strictly forbidden (and underhanded).

  4. There's no 'miss a day and you're out'. If you can't post one day that doesn't mean you're out. Keep posting when you get a chance.

  5. Regular posting rules apply:

    • LiveJournal: proper header, fic behind cut, adult rated fic comm-locked, disclaimer, etc.

    • TtH Main Site: disclaimer, proper summary, grammar and proper spelling are you friends, rate your stories according to site guidelines, etc

  6. Have fun :)

Special Note:
If you are posting to TtH we strongly urge you to post ficlets/shorts that are part of a series as one “story” rather than multiple standalone stories.

Prizes:

Weekly Roundup:
There will be a weekly roundup/announcement of standing each Monday. However, the mods will be checking the submissions daily to make sure they fit the rules, are tagged correctly, etc. If you feel your daily submission is questionable (in regards to crossover-ness), please contact a moderator directly so we can address the issue before the day is up.

If you are posting to both LiveJournal and TtH concurrently please be sure to notate your TtH user on your LJ entry for tracking purposes.

Tagging Policy:

Be kind and please tag your posts so that future visitors can easily find stories by the fandom they want to read, the author or the challenge year. This also greatly assists the mods when they are compiling status updates.

If you post and do not have either an author tag or the fandom tag you need, please select the appropriate tag seen below and one of the mods will get you a tag.

Tag for New Authors: !tag needed: author
Tag for New Fandoms: !tag needed: fandom

Also, tag each post for the appropriate year challenge with: !2022 august event

Happy fic writing everyone and don’t forget to review! Those participating will greatly appreciate it!

Get Your Words Out - June

June went extremely well as far as getting words out. In fact, I'm pretty sure I haven't written this much outside of August, ever. On the downside, I still haven't gotten anything ready to actually be posted. *sigh* I did manage to write a little on a couple of my WiP's, and I have a new story that looks promising. It's a oneshot, so it won't add to my huge WiP list of stories if/when I manage to complete it.

I clocked in at 27,735 words, which puts my total amount of words so far this year at 107,874. This puts me a smooth 32,874 words ahead of schedule. Consequently, I only have 42,126 words left to reach my goal. That means, barring a complete writer's block, I'll complete my writing goal in August, and even exceed it as I normally write at least 35,000 words during the twistedshorts (August Fic-A-Day).

Speaking of the August FAD, I need to make preparations for that so I don't end up winging it and completely exhausting myself as I partially did last year. It's time to start brainstorming ideas and set up some kind of step-by-step, even if I'll probably go off script.

Progress Statistic:
January: 15,105
February: 17,330
March: 17,249
April: 16,041
May: 14,414
June: 27,735
YTD: 107,874

Get Your Words Out - May

May went well in the sense that I wrote more than the amount of words I was supposed to in order to keep to my schedule, but it is still the least amount of words I've written in a month this year. Which is a long-winded way of saying I wrote 14,414 words. That puts my total as of June 1st at 80,139 words, meaning I am 17,639 words ahead. Or a little past half-way through my writing goal! :)

I still haven't gotten to the point where I have actually managed to complete a chapter in one of my WIP's or post a short story. *sigh* The struggle to get there continues.

Progress Statistic:
January: 15,105
February: 17,330
March: 17,249
April: 16,041
May: 14,414
YTD: 80,139

Get Your Words Out: January

January 2022 has returned my muse to me, at least in the sense that I have managed to write more words this month than my Pledge Level recommends (12,500). None of it is worthy of posting, but it's progress and I'll take it. I am cautiously optimistic this will last and that it will result in my WiP's getting updated at some point this year.

That said, I wrote 15,105 words in January! Which means I am 2,605 words ahead of schedule.

It felt really, really good to write that! :) 2021 was not my year as far as writing goes, as I only managed to write more than the expected median of 12,500 words in August and December. The rest of the year was pretty bad. February is only 28 days, but I can do this!

Progress Statistic:
January: 15,105
YTD: 15,105

Happy New Year!

2021 brought with it several more variations of the Coronavirus such as Delta and Omicron among others. The number of people who has gotten the virus worldwide is just under 300M, with the death toll being about 5,5M. Norway has just under 400K people who has gotten the virus, and 1,305 who have died.

A quick Google search informed me that Norway has a population of 5,484,576 as of Friday, December 31, 2021. In other words, more people have died of the Coronavirus worldwide than there are people in my home country. Which is quite disturbing to think about.

Despite that there is hope, and I genuinely believe we will get through this. Follow the advise we have been given; keep your distance from people, don't stay anywhere with a lot people, keep the number of guests in your home low, and wear a mask if it's advised. Get the the vaccine, and the boosters.

Get regularly tested, especially if you believe you have been compromised. If you won't do it for yourself, then do it for your family and friends. Older people and others with a reduced immune system could die if you don't. Stay in quarantine or isolation if you're told to or even if it's the safer option. The saying 'it's better to be safe than sorry' exist for a reason. Please stay safe.

We live in modern times so we can keep in contact via phones, messages, and the internet. It's not the same as seeing family and friends in person, but it helps. Writing an old-fashioned handwritten letter or card might make someone's day or even week. It shows you have put more effort into making someone happy than just writing an email.

The pandemic has lasted for two years now, and that means that the scientists have had two years to search for a successful vaccine, a remedy, a CURE for us all. They are not there yet, but they're working on it. Stay positive and stay strong. We will get through this.

I hope 2022 will bring good health, good news, good fortune, and all-around happiness for everyone. Happy New Year!
