Is this map correct?

edit

Hi, is the start point of Nile river this map correct?

If no, please correct that in OpenStreetMaps site and then apply it to the article. Thanks, Hooman Mallahzadeh (talk) 11:03, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's more or less correct, that start point is the point were the Blue Nile and the White Nile merge DervotNum4 (talk) 22:40, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Where did the nile river begin

Where did the Nile river begin? 105.243.71.4 (talk) 15:08, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

The White Nile begins at Lake Victoria and the Blue Nile begins at Lake Tana. The Nile "proper" begins where the two rivers meet, which would be at the city of Khartoum in Sudan. DervotNum4 (talk) 16:31, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Change section "water sharing dispute"

edit

Hello, for the section "water sharing dispute" I propose to make it more detailed and rename it "Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam dispute". The water dispute in the Nile is mainly between Egypt and Ethiopia and their allies. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is the most relevant and the most prominent case where this dispute takes place. Alternatively, "Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam dispute" could be a separate section in the article, however most of this new section and the already existing "water sharing dispute" section would overlap. For reference, please see my reverted edits on this article. Jas24A (talk) 16:26, 11 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be no opinion for or against the proposed changes. Therefore, I will proceed with editing the section. Jas24A (talk) 14:27, 15 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Dangers section is a bit odd

edit

The "Dangers" section appears to be entirely copied from its sole source, which is a preprint of a study. The language appears to be more argumentative than informative. I'm neither a wikipedia guru nor a Nile expert, so I'm putting this here in the hope that someone more qualified than me will look at it. My main concern is that it is written to sound like *Nile* floods are the worst natural disasters, however it appears to be entirely hypothetical, based on the Yangtze flood in China a century ago. I would recommend rewriting the section to say that some academics have warned of the risks of a flood disaster, rather than pasting in an analysis directly. I also don't know about Wikipedia's copy-paste policy, if it is acceptable to copy word for word from a cited source. Alcatraz ii (talk) 00:52, 9 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Etymology section seems to have a bad citation

edit

In the ancient Egyptian language, the Nile is called Ḥꜥpy (Hapy) or Jtrw (Iteru), meaning "river". In Coptic, the word ⲫⲓⲁⲣⲟ, pronounced piaro (Sahidic) or phiaro (Bohairic), means "the river" (lit. p(h).iar-o "the-canal-great"), and comes from the same ancient name.

A friend sent this to me and it seemed off. I tracked down the citation and it doesn’t match this passage at all. 2601:647:4900:EF0:C409:8959:2B56:327B (talk) 06:09, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
