| This article should adhere to the gender identity guideline because it contains material about one or more non-binary people. Precedence should be given to self-designation as reported in the most up-to-date reliable sources, anywhere in article space, even when it doesn't match what's most common in reliable sources. Any person whose gender might be questioned should be referred to by the pronouns, possessive adjectives, and gendered nouns (for example "man/woman", "waiter/waitress", "chairman/chairwoman") that reflect that person's latest expressed gender self-identification. Many, but not all, non-binary people go by singular they pronouns, which are acceptable for use in articles. This applies in references to any phase of that person's life, unless the subject has indicated a preference otherwise. Former, pre-transition names may only be included if the person was notable while using the name; outside of the main biographical article, such names should only appear once, in a footnote or parentheses. If material violating this guideline is repeatedly inserted, or if there are other related issues, please report the issue to the LGBTQ+ WikiProject, or, in the case of living people, to the BLP noticeboard. |
Contributed to software used by Stephen Hawking?
editI just happened to be looking at the older version of Stephen Hawking's website, and on the page about his accessibility equipment it mentions a software emulation of his speech synthesis (which was originally a DECtalk unit) running on a RasPi 3, and Byuu is one of the credited people involved (probably on the software end?). If they were indeed involved, this would be a neat thing to add to the page if some better coverage can be found. Here's the page I was looking at. - Aha, did some more digging, and the software emulation of his speech synthesizer used part of higan to emulate a strange, old NEC DSP chip, hence why Byuu was credited. I think this could definitely be mentioned, though this is a primary source Hawking's Voice MrAureliusRYell at me! 21:58, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- At the time they had posted an article about how it worked, but like most of the stuff in various iterations of their site it's probably long lost. Salvadorp2001 (talk) 22:04, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Also mentioned here which is not (I think) a primary source: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/The-Silicon-Valley-quest-to-preserve-Stephen-12759775.php Salvadorp2001 (talk) 22:06, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
