She's a photographer. They shoot things. ALT1: ... that the photographer Michele Singer Reiner (pictured) shot Trump for his first book?--Launchballer 18:30, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Could reword to "took a shot of Trump", unless the community is ok with the quirkier wording and possible misinterpretation.—Bagumba (talk) 19:13, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Agree with this rewording. Or maybe even “took a photograph”. DrewieStewie (talk) 20:47, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think we are being overly sensitive here. The use of "shoot" is not even quirky; it aligns perfectly with the dictionary meaning of the word, and it makes the hook that much more interesting. Surtsicna (talk) 12:01, 17 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sensitivity is absolutely warranted, considering there have been multiple assassination attempts on Trump in the last few years, with one nearly succeeding. Natg 19 (talk) 19:00, 17 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am more okay with ALT1, but in general, we should avoid the "x shot Donald Trump" phrasing, especially on the main page. Natg 19 (talk) 19:05, 17 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
So what if there have been assassination attempts? The hook is not saying or in any way implying that she attempted an assassination. Surtsicna (talk) 22:42, 17 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
As I mention above, I disagree. A simple reading of ALT0 sounds like an assassination attempt, or an actual shooting with a gun. This is somewhat mitigated with context that Reiner was a photographer. Natg 19 (talk) 00:46, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
That is not a simple reading. That is an obviously incorrect reading. Surtsicna (talk) 01:00, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
The problem is that “shot” means many different things. “Photographed” is far more precise, indisputable, and appropriate for this context. DrewieStewie (talk) 07:12, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
"Shot" is as indisputable and appropriate,[1][2] and "shot for his first book" just as precise.[3][4] Ultimately, we want to attract attention, and you only need to read 4 more words of the 10-word sentence to understand that the subject did not harm Trump. Surtsicna (talk) 11:48, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I still stand by a preference for single meaning words over multi-meaning words. You ain’t gonna flip me on this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DrewieStewie (talkcontribs) 12:43, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

New article, of sufficient length. Well sourced. No obvious copyright or neutrality issues. I wish the article had more about her career than about her personal life and death, but it does not appear to be incomplete. QPQ is done too. ALT0 is concise, clear, and attention-grabbing, and I prefer it over ALT1. Surtsicna (talk) 01:43, 18 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey guys, I think the current image may be copyvio since google may give incorrect licensing details. I'm not very good at finding free images, so if anyone here manages to find one of Michele, that would be of great help. Otherwise, a non-free picture will have to be used. jolielover♥talk 18:59, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

Is there any evidence she used the name “Michele Singer Reiner” in her professional life? Also, is there any evidence that she changed her name after the marriage? Viriditas (talk) 20:03, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

That's the name all the sources currently use, so WP:COMMONNAME. jolielover♥talk 20:39, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Not what I was asking. Anyway, looking into this, it looks like she is credited in her most recent professional work with Reiner as "Michele Reiner", so it's moot. Viriditas (talk) 20:43, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Not what he means at all. Is there any proof she used the name "Michele Singer Reiner"? The page starting off with a name that our sources generally use is not standard. Like Kanye West for example. We use his legal name (Ye) for the opening line, even if a vast majority of sources use his former name. In other words, Michele Singer Reiner might not be her legal name. CNN doesn't get to decide what somebody's real name is. MountainJew6150 (talk) 04:26, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Misinterpreted. New CNN obit implies she changed her last name to Reiner and didn't keep Singer. jolielover♥talk 17:57, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am glad you read what I said, understood, and dug a little further on this topic. Thank you. MountainJew6150 (talk) 02:59, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@JeffSpaceman: you just edited the page to add back "Michele Singer Reiner" as her full legal name, do you have a source for this? The CNN obit implies she gave up her last name Singer for Reiner, however, media continues to report her with her maiden name as a common trend for celebrity couples with the same last names (to avoid repetition), and also because she did do some work under her maiden name and was credited as such a few times. It's a bit blurry right now though, I will say. jolielover♥talk 11:28, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I didn't see this discussion. I apologize for that -- I think given this discussion, the page should be moved to Michelle Reiner per what has been discussed above. JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:41, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Year of birth?

edit

I've seen conflicting reports from reliable sources on her year of birth - either 1957 or 1955, depending on if she was 68 or 70 when she died. LA Times, CNN, NYT, People, THR say she was 70, while CBS, Time, BBC, Guardian, ABC, Washington Post, say she was 68. Before she and her husband were identified, the LAFD noted the bodies were 78 and 68 years old respectively, which would match the current year of birth on the page, 1957. Thoughts? I'm inclined to stick with 1957 per the initial reports from the police. jolielover♥talk 08:57, 17 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Los Angeles Coroner Office has her at 70. https://me.lacounty.gov/case-detail/?caseNumber=2025-19481 Coasterghost (talk) 22:00, 17 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Michele Singer ReinerMichele ReinerMichele Reiner – Cf. discussion above, many sources refer to her as Michele Reiner as opposed to Michele Singer Reiner. [5], [6], and [7] are all news media sources that call her by this name, and I could easily find at least ten more. Given that per above, the CNN obituary states she dropped "Singer" as her surname, I think it would make sense for the article to be at this title. Appears to be the WP:COMMONNAME. JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:47, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

It's 50/50 Singer Reiner or just Reiner, from what I've seen anyway. From today, the NYT obit calls her 'Singer Reiner'. News media has been reporting all kinds of contradictions. Also worth noting she is credited as 'Michele Singer' in a lot of her work (even after marriage); unsure about her recent production work, I'll have to see. sigh seems like there's no clear answer as of now... jolielover♥talk 18:56, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I vote for keeping the article title 'Michele Singer Reiner' and add a redirect Michele Reiner. Doing so will allow people looking for current references to find her while keeping her link with professional work and life before her marriage ProfessorKaiFlai (talk) 18:15, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
sorry - KEEP Michele Reiner as a redirect, I see now that it already is ProfessorKaiFlai (talk) 18:15, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per WP:CONCISE. The number of usages of the long and shortened names may be break-even, but considering the short name is also widely used, and that Wikipedia prefers shorter article titles, I support the move based on that principle. — AP 499D25 (talk) 08:35, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
