A number of IP editors keep changing this, but fail to cite any sources. Cricinfo has it as Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, Pakistan. Would any of the IP editors care to offer a reliable source to counter this information? Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:00, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

– Clearly a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC as shown by the coverage. Other articles such Hasan Ali (footballer), Hassan Ali (kabaddi) are one-match biographies. Störm (talk) 18:48, 29 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose This article is longer than some of the other entires, but you've not shown that this article is "more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term." or that it "has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term". One of the other articles (Hasan ibn Ali) on the DAB has more page views than this one. Spike 'em (talk) 20:20, 29 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose malformed target is a dab page. Also "Hasan Ali was" "Hasan Ali is" tests don't show this 24-year old cricketer being more long term notable than all other Hasan Alis in world history combined. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:09, 30 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Comment: The fact that the move request was malformed has now been fixed. Steel1943 (talk) 16:18, 30 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I think keeping the current setup makes it easier to fix incorrect incoming links, and I don't think this (or any of the other articles) are primary topics. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:04, 30 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose This page moving decision isn't that credible enough as just mentioning Hasan Ali can be mistakenly viewed by the users as a footballer or kabaddi player as most of the people may not be aware of the cricketer, Hasan Ali though he has got enough reputation in international cricket arena. Hasan Ali (cricketer)Hassan Ali (cricketer)Hassan Ali (cricketer) – He himself uses Hassan as his English spelling on his cricket shirts and his social media - insta and Facebook. Current club also uses double S. Only Cricinfo seems to have stuck with the single S. The-Pope (talk) 10:06, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

The official Pakistan Cricket Board website uses "HASAN ALI" and not the double S name in their website, along with ESPNcricinfo ofc. In the absence of reliable sources supporting an alternative spelling, there is no strong justification to change the name.

You don't think the players most recent employers (Adelaide Strikers & Warwickshire) and the player himself are reliable sources? As this is just a transliteration from Punjabi or Urdu, there is no "right" answer. Current common use is what we should go by. The-Pope (talk) 23:28, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
The player's recent franchises and personal usage are noted, but for Wikipedia we rely on primary authoritative sources. For Pakistani cricketers, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the national governing body of cricket in that country, remains the most authoritative primary source. Therefore, I believe that we should rely on the PCB name and "Hasan Ali" should not be changed. Rfakjunkie (talk) 07:18, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'd say the current employer and his own social media are more primary and more authoritative sources. He may have changed his preferred English spelling recently, and it makes sense that PCB and ESPNCricinfo would've had a page for him since he first played, and haven't updated the name change. But can you provide a citation that "primary authoritative sources" are to be relied on? WP:TRANSLITERATE and WP:NCBIO don't seem to cover it. The-Pope (talk) 08:47, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
