Update Introduction to reflect discontinuation from market

edit

I am a Dell Technologies employee and am submitting the following edit request to align with Wikipedia's COI guidelines. I will not edit the page directly but am providing this proposal for consideration by independent editors.

I propose updating the following sentences in the Introduction section to reflect the discontinued status of the product and add a comma for clarity (see #2 below):

  • 1. Change "is the” to “is a discontinued”

Current text: FTOS or Force10 Operating System is the firmware family used on Force10 Ethernet switches.

Proposed text: FTOS or Force10 Operating System is a discontinued firmware family used on Force10 Ethernet switches.

  • 2. Add a comma, change “will be” to “was”, and change “will use” to “use”

Current text: As part of a re-branding strategy of Dell FTOS will be renamed to Dell Networking Operating System (DNOS) 9.x or above, while the legacy PowerConnect switches will use DNOS 6.x: see the separate article on DNOS.

Proposed text: As part of a re-branding strategy of Dell, FTOS was renamed to Dell Networking Operating System (DNOS) 9.x or above, while the legacy PowerConnect switches use DNOS 6.x: see the separate article on DNOS.

These updates align with this sentence in the Force10 article: In 2013 the name FTOS will be replaced by DNOS as the generic operating system name for all Dell Networking portfolio.

Thank you for reviewing this request! Please ask if clarification is needed. TL with Dell Technologies (talk) 15:12, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
