History

edit

MyflyRight was founded in 2016 by Igor Maas and Djavad Ali and is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany.[3] MyflyRight is led by Igor Maas, Djavad Ali and Andreas Bodden as managing directors.[4] Since its foundation the company has expanded its operations to several European countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom.[5]

Business model

edit

MyflyRight operates on a contingency model, charging customers a fee only when compensation is successfully received.[6]

Claims are initiated through an online portal, where customers provide flight details and supporting documents. The company evaluates cases using flight data, legal databases, and court rulings, and reports the use of proprietary software to assist with processing.[7]

edit

MyflyRight has been involved in litigation related to air passenger rights, including matters referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU/ECJ). The company was a party to proceedings concerning flight cancellations due to extraordinary circumstances in the "TAP Portugal" cases (C-157/22 and C-158/22), which examined the scope of compensation obligations under EU Regulation 261/2004.[8] The ECJ rulings clarified aspects of liability where cancellations are connected to unforeseen staffing issues.[9]

MyflyRight has also been named in proceedings against other carriers and appears in official EU documentation as a party in litigation proceedings listed in the Official Journal / EUR-Lex records). The Court ruled in favour of MYFLYRIGHT, stating that airlines cannot avoid paying monetary compensation by changing scheduled flight times shortly before the departure time of the flight.[10] [11]

Technology and operations

edit

In 2019, Die Welt reported that MyflyRight uses artificial intelligence to evaluate claims, drawing on flight data, weather reports, and past court rulings. The company stated that its system also helps identify favorable venues for litigation and had been applied in more than 5,000 court cases.[12]

Reception

edit

MyflyRight has been covered by German and international media for its role in passenger-rights claims and for its use of technology in claim assessment.[13][14]
