RealEye is a Polish software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that provides browser-based platform designed for conducting webcam eye-tracking research[1]. The technology has been applied in neuromarketing, UX and usability testing, advertising effectiveness studies, and academic research.[2]

History

edit

RealEye was founded in 2017 by Adam Cellary and Damian Sromek, who identified a lack of affordable alternatives to traditional hardware-based eye-tracking systems.[3] An initial prototype used a webcam to approximate eye position, and positive preliminary results led to further development.[2] The platform was designed to include server infrastructure, data-processing pipelines, and a user interface for researchers and commercial clients.[2]

The operating company, RealEye Sp. z o.o., was formally registered on 1 March 2019. In the same year, RealEye got support from investors, specifically, a grant from SpeedUp Group along with support from Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju (NCBR), to help improve the precision of measurements.[4][5]

Technology

edit

RealEye is designed to run on standard consumer devices (desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones), without the need of specialized infrared-based hardware. The platform is intended for visual‑attention research across images, videos, app-mockups, and live or static web content.[1][5]

RealEye applies computer vision and deep neural networks to detect a participant’s face and approximate eye position through a standard webcam[1], then estimates a gaze point and visual attention metrics in the browser.[2]
