Kepler Vision Technologies is a Dutch health technology company that develops artificial-intelligence software for use in elderly care facilities and hospitals. The company’s systems analyse camera streams to detect events such as residents getting out of bed or falling, and send alerts to care staff. Independent healthcare media have described the technology as a way to reduce alarm fatigue and support caregivers working under increasing workloads.[1][2]

History

edit

Kepler Vision Technologies was founded in 2018 in Amsterdam with the aim of applying computer vision and artificial intelligence to improve safety and monitoring in long-term care environments. Early deployments of the technology were reported in Dutch nursing homes, where the system was introduced as an alternative to traditional motion or bed sensors.[3]

In 2023, FMT Gezondheidszorg reported the first hospital implementation of the system at UZ Brussel in Belgium.[4]

The company has been described by regional innovation agency ROM InWest as one of several technology developers contributing to advancements in elderly care.[5]

Technology

edit

Kepler Vision's software applies computer-vision models to video streams from resident rooms in care facilities. The system is designed to recognise events such as leaving the bed, lying on the floor, or remaining immobile for extended periods, and to trigger alerts through existing nurse-call systems.[6]

The company offers two main products:

  • Kepler Night Nurse – a monitoring application running on local servers using standard IP cameras.[7]
  • Kepler Nurse Assist – a version of the software embedded on edge devices such as smart cameras.[8]

ICT&health reported that the system includes privacy-preserving features such as on-device face anonymisation for video streams.[9] The technology has also been cited among digital tools expected to have significant impact on elderly care.[10]

A 2023 publication by Nictiz, the Dutch national centre for healthcare standardisation, referred to Kepler Night Nurse as an example of artificial intelligence used to reduce administrative workload in long-term care and to support monitoring tasks in resident rooms.[11]

Applications

edit

The Dutch elderly care association ActiZ reported that the use of Kepler Night Nurse at Joris Zorg contributed to a reduction in fall incidents and helped prevent false alarms in day-to-day monitoring.[12]

Partnerships

edit

Kepler Vision Technologies collaborates with international technology and healthcare companies to integrate its AI-based monitoring software into existing care infrastructures. The company has partnered with camera manufacturer MOBOTIX for joint solutions in the nursing and healthcare sector,[13] and with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise to provide interoperability with communication and care platforms.[14]

In the Netherlands, Kepler collaborates with Verkerk Healthcare on integrating AI-driven monitoring into nurse-call systems,[15] and maintains interoperability with Ascom’s healthcare communication solutions.[16]

The company also partners with OneCo Technology to support deployments in the Norwegian healthcare sector,[17] and with Konica Minolta Europe for solutions in clinical and care environments.[18]

Additional partnerships include system-integration collaborations with Simac,[19] as well as participation in a project nominated for a 2025 Computable Award in collaboration with Kinwell.[20]

Additional collaborations and integrations exist beyond the partnerships listed here, depending on regional deployments and technology platforms, but only partnerships confirmed by independent sources are included in this overview.

Certifications

edit

Kepler Vision has published external audit certificates showing compliance with ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 information-security standards, as well as a software quality certification from BonCode.[21]

Patents

edit

Patent filings listed in the European Patent Office’s Espacenet database show that Kepler Vision Technologies has submitted multiple patent applications related to computer-vision-based monitoring and fall-detection technology.[22]

A 2023 report in the Dutch ICT publication WINMAG Pro stated that the company had been granted its twentieth patent, relating to innovations in resident-monitoring technologies for care environments.[23]

Recognition

edit

Kepler Vision Technologies has been listed in the Dutch Chamber of Commerce Innovation Top 100, a national ranking of innovative companies in the Netherlands.[24]

In 2023, the ICT magazine IT Executive featured the company for its use of machine learning in fall detection for long-term care.[25]
