Early life and education

Addison Rae Easterling[1][a] was born on October 6, 2000,[2][3] and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, to parents Monty Lopez and Sheri Easterling.[2] Rae has two younger brothers, Enzo Lopez and Lucas Lopez,[4] and an older half-sister, Macye Neumeyer, who has two daughters of her own. Rae's parents initially divorced when she was younger and were on and off often throughout her childhood, before remarrying in 2017, later divorcing again in 2022.[5]

Rae started dancing competitively at the age of six where she attended competitions across the country.[2] Before moving to Los Angeles to pursue her career, she briefly attended Louisiana State University (LSU) where she studied broadcast journalism in the fall to become a sports broadcaster but then dropped out when she began to gain popularity on TikTok.[6] In an interview with Elle magazine, Rae talked about her choice to move to Los Angeles, saying: "a few people in LA reached out to me, and I was like 'I need to go. I need to go.' So my parents supported me fully."[7]

Career

2019–2023: Social media fame and career beginnings

Rae first gained attention after joining the social media app TikTok in July 2019, uploading dance videos to trending songs on the platform.[8] Within a few months, Rae gained over one million followers on the app, leaving LSU in November.[9] She joined the TikTok collective The Hype House in December 2019 for a brief period of time.[10] As of December 2025, she has amassed over 88 million followers on the app.[11] She later signed with talent agency WME in January 2020.[12] In July, Addison released a weekly Spotify-exclusive podcast alongside her mother, Mama Knows Best, covering their personal and career lives.[13] Rae later relaunched this podcast under the name That Was Fun?.[14]

In March 2021, Rae released her debut single, "Obsessed" marking her first venture into the music industry.[15] The single was intended to be the lead single for her then-upcoming project but was temporarily shelved.[16] That same year, Rae launched her own cosmetics line, Item Beauty, but it discontinued in 2023.[9][17] Rae also founded her own fragrance line.[18] In August, Rae made her feature film debut as Padgett in the Netflix comedy film He's All That (2021), a remake film of the 1999 teen comedy She's All That.[19] The film was the most streamed film on its release week. [20]

In February 2022, it was announced that Rae had joined the cast of a film titled Fashionista, produced by Paramount.[21] That same month, multiple songs from her unreleased EP leaked on YouTube, which Rae initially thought "could mark the death knell for her music career".[16] However, the tracks gained traction online, which spurred her to release her debut extended play AR on August 18, 2023.[22] The EP received generally positive reviews,[23][16] and debuted at number 19 on the US Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.[24] In November, Rae appeared as Gaby in the slasher film Thanksgiving (2023).[25]

2024–present: Musical breakthrough with Addison

In March 2024, Rae featured on Charli XCX's remix of "Von Dutch" which went on to appear on Charli XCX's remix album Brat and It's Completely Different but Also Still Brat (2024).[26][27] Rae also appeared on A. G. Cook's album Britpop (2024) on a song titled "Lucifer" with Charli XCX.[22] In August 2024, Addison Rae released her first major label single, "Diet Pepsi", through Columbia Records.[28] The song received commercial success.[29] It went on to peak at number 54 on the US Billboard Hot 100 marking Rae's first entry.[30] Rae performed the song live at Madison Square Garden with Troye Sivan and Charli XCX on the Sweat tour.[31] In October 2024, Rae released the single "Aquamarine".[32] A remix of the song with Arca was released a month later.[33]

In January 2025, during an interview with Rolling Stone, Rae confirmed that she would be releasing her debut studio album in 2025,[34] with Pitchfork, writer Meaghan Garvey calling it "one of the most anticipated pop releases" of the year.[35] In February, Rae released the single "High Fashion" and its accompanying music video.[36] Following the single's release, she was featured on the cover of Vogue France.[37] In April 2025, Rae performed "Aquamarine / Arcamarine" at Coachella with Arca and also announced the release date for her upcoming debut studio album for June.[38]

Rae's debut album, Addison, was eventually released on June 6, 2025, and was preceded by the release of the additional singles "Headphones On" and "Fame Is a Gun".[39] The album found widespread success,[40] debuting at number four on the Billboard 200. It sold 48,500 album-equivalent units in its first week, consisting of 23,000 pure album sales and 25,500 streaming equivalent album units from 33 million streams.[41] Rae celebrated the release of Addison with a live concert at NYC’s The Box. The event marked a celebration of her first full-length effort, featuring performances of tracks from the album. The concert was produced in partnership with Spotify.[42]

On June 17, Rae announced she would embark on her first headlining tour, The Addison Tour, with dates in Europe, North America and Australia, from August through November 2025.[43] In October 2025, Rae appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, performing "Diet Pepsi" wearing a sparkling gold gown first worn by the burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee in the 1950s.[44] She appeared in the third season of Netflix's biographical crime drama anthology television series Monster: The Ed Gein Story as Evelyn Hartley.[45] Rae will star in the live-action animated road comedy film Animal Friends alongside Ryan Reynolds and Aubrey Plaza, which is set to be released on June 5, 2026.[46][47][48] In November 2025, she was nominated for Best New Artist at the 68th Grammy Awards.[49] In December 2025, Rae was named artist of the year by The Guardian, [50] while Addison was named the best album of 2025 by the Washington Post and The Fader.[51][52]

Musical style

Music critics have categorized Rae's music as dance-pop, bubblegum pop, and synth-pop. Rae has mentioned being influenced by many artists including Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Sophie, Arca, and Charli XCX.[16][53] In a conversation with Interview magazine, Rae muses on her influences, "I love a woman who does it all… I love a girl that does it all with no filter, it's just ingrained in me."[53]

Vogue notes that Rae has received attention from music fans online for her unexpectedly eclectic taste; artists like "FKA Twigs, Yves Tumor, and Kelela" appear on her playlists which stylistically "span recent avant-garde hip-hop to the cream of '00s Timbaland-produced R&B."[16] In a trailer video for her debut self-titled album, Rae acknowledged that she is "not the same person you used to know,"[54] alluding to her social media rebrand.

In an interview with W Magazine, Rae shared that for her first label meeting with Columbia Records she brought a binder filled with printed photos, colors, and words. Before the album had any sound or music, it existed purely as a collection of visions, visuals, and words. Rae also described the creation of Addison, saying, "It was a very fun and free-flowing environment. There was no pressure to force ourselves to make an album or a certain number of songs. It just happened gradually over time."[55]

Partnerships and business ventures

Rae has partnered with various companies such as Pandora (in collaboration with Charli XCX), L'Oréal, Lululemon, Reebok, and YSL Beauty.[56][57][58][59] Rae has an estimated net worth of $25 million, earning over $5 million in 2020.[60] She was also included as a limited-time playable character in the mobile video game War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in November 2022.[61]

Rae started her own fragrance line Addison Rae Fragrance in 2021. It features several water-based, alcohol-free scents that aim to provide mood benefits in addition to fragrance. The fragrances come in bottles that change color with temperature, offering a sensory or novelty element, each described with fruity, floral, or fresh woody notes.[62][63] Rae co-founded Item Beauty, a cosmetics and skincare brand. The brand promoted clean, cruelty-free, and vegan-friendly products that were dermatologist-tested. As of 2023, the brand was discontinued.[64] In 2022, Rae partnered with Alani Nu to make her own energy drink flavor, 'Berry Pop'.[65]

Rae was the face of the Marc Jacobs x Vaquera bag collab; a Y2K-inspired bag in celebration of Marc Jacobs’ 40th Anniversary in November 2024.[66][67] Rae was seen using Chanel N°5 in her "Aquamarine" music video.[68]

On the day of the release of her debut album Addison, Rae partnered with Matchaful in New York City. She handed out their collab drink 'Summer Forever' to the first 50 guests in line.[69][70] In August 2025, Rae announced a collaboration with Lucky Brand. The partnership debuted with the Addison Ultra Low Rise Flare, a style inspired by early 2000s fashion. Rae had already been wearing the jeans during her live performances leading up to the launch. Together, Rae and Lucky Brand set out to "bring back the Y2K aesthetic with the goal of turning low-rise skeptics into believers."[71][72]

In the media

In March 2020, Australian rapper The Kid Laroi released the song "Addison Rae", which was named after Rae and became popular on social media.[73] Followed by this, Rae appeared in Lil Mosey's "Blueberry Faygo" music video.[74][75] Later that year, Rae was mentioned by rapper Lil Yachty on his song "E-ER", which sparked a feud between him and Rae's then–boyfriend, Bryce Hall.[76]

In August 2022, Rae faced backlash for a post she made wearing the "Holy Trinity" bikini, a collaboration between Adidas and the brand Praying, which sported the words "Father" and "Son" on its bra and "Holy Spirit" on its bottom. It was considered offensive by some Christians and she later took the post down.[77][78]

Rae has been featured on the covers of several international fashion and entertainment magazines and has appeared in numerous editorial features. She first appeared on the digital cover of Glamour UK in February 2021, discussing mental health and starting her acting career. Since then, Rae has appeared on the covers of magazine publications including Rolling Stone (February 2025), Vogue France (March 2025), ELLE US (May 2025, Women in Music issue), Billboard (August 2025), and W Magazine (Volume V, 2025). Her editorial work includes features in Vogue US (August 2023), Interview Magazine (Summer 2024), and Vanity Fair US (September 2021), among others.

Rae appeared at the 2024 MTV VMAs, wearing an all-white look inspired by American singer-songwriter Madonna. Rae was also a presenter at the ceremony.[79]Rae also attended the Miu Miu SS25 show, alongside Petra Collins.[66] Rae starred in Saint Laurent’s November 2024 short film series As Time Goes By, directed by Nadia Lee Cohen. The campaign featured Chloë Sevigny, Joey King, John Waters, and more.[80]

Rae joined other celebrities with the revival of the navel piercing in the 2020s alongside Ice Spice and Billie Eilish.[81][82][83]

In July 2025, Rae appeared in Sombr's '70s-inspired “12 to 12” music video.[84][85] Rae attended the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City, having previously appeared in 2022 and 2024. She appeared as a guest and presenter alongside designer Christopher John Rogers, presenting the American Emerging Designer of the Year award. Rae met with leading fashion figures including A$AP Rocky and Naomi Campbell.[86][87]

Activism and endorsements

In January 2021, Rae donated her $1 million in prize money from winning an all-star Mario Tennis Aces tournament called the Stay At Home Slam to the charity No Kid Hungry.[88] In January 2022, Rae joined the campaign for The American Cancer Society.[89]

In June 2020, a video from 2016 that Rae had retweeted resurfaced, in which a woman criticized the Black Lives Matter movement. Rae promptly removed the tweet and issued an apology on Instagram, acknowledging her earlier lack of awareness and expressing support for the movement. She wrote, “Because of my privilege, I didn’t understand and wasn’t educated enough on the social injustices facing the Black community. All lives cannot matter until Black lives do. I will never stop growing, learning, and fighting for those whose voices rightfully need to be amplified, and will forever believe that Black Lives Matter.” Her statement was widely interpreted as a reflection of personal growth and a commitment to continued education and advocacy, as she has shown continued support for the movement.[90][91]

In July 2021, a video posted by the Nelk Boys showing Rae shaking hands and greeting then-former President Donald Trump at UFC 264 gained attention online. Rae later clarified that the interaction was non-political, explaining that her introduction was a polite acknowledgment rather than an expression of support. She stated, “I don’t support Trump. And if someone does, that’s their opinion and I respect everyone’s opinions. It’s very rare to meet a former president, and I think most people could agree with me on that. I consider myself a friendly person, and introducing myself doesn’t mean I stand behind anything that any respective person condones.”[92]

Rae endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.[93] In a 2025 interview with Vogue France, Rae said that Trump had "created the problem" of TikTok's ban in the United States and, in reference to his second presidency, that it was "unbelievable to see how quickly one can abuse a newly acquired power."[94]

She voiced her support of anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests in June 2025, writing in an Instagram post, "This country could not exist without immigrants."[95]

Rae joined Troye Sivan, Pedro Pascal, and more in showing her support of trans rights with a viral t-shirt that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for a nonprofit dedicated to the trans community.[96]

Personal life

In October 2020, Rae confirmed she was in a relationship with social media personality Bryce Hall through various social media posts; however, they ended their relationship the following year.[97][98] In June 2021, Rae was reported to be dating Omer Fedi, an Israeli musician and producer. The couple separated around October 2025 after four years together, with reports indicating that the split was amicable and that Rae chose to focus on her career.[99][100]

Rae discussed stepping back from social media, explaining that she had “felt so misunderstood” after “sharing so much” of herself online and had come to value her privacy, noting that “privacy becomes really important over time.” She said that “being misunderstood is definitely annoying,” but has learned not to take criticism personally, reflecting that when she moved to Los Angeles at 19, she was still “figuring out who [she] was.”[101]

In a April 2025 interview with Elle magazine, Rae reflected on her early videos, saying, “I wasn’t going to let being cringe and posting a million videos stop me... I can appreciate that girl and say that was a girl who was going to make it happen, no matter what that meant doing.” She added, “I wasn’t doing anything harmful. I was just having a dandy time dancing.”[102]
