I'd seen a few people around doing year-in-review fic lists and seeing their summaries made me curious about what I'd written this year. Now that I've had a look, it's possible I'm a little overwhelmed; I wrote a lot this year. I attribute this to several factors, including having found an awesome new fandom to play in and having no discernable life to speak of.
In any case, here's a summary, broken down by fandom, of my ficcy accomplishments for the year:
Through the Looking Glass
Doctor Who; Ten/Rose
Weevils Wobble…But Do They Fall Down?
Doctor Who/Torchwood; Jack/Martha UST
Of All the Chippies in All the Universes
Doctor Who; Ten II/Rose
All Good Fish go to Heaven
West Wing; Josh/Donna snarking
Box-and-One Defense
West Wing; Gal Pal power!

Yeah, I can't believe I wrote that much either. What's scarier is that I have two more stories in the works. But those will have to wait until next year. *g*
In any case, here's a summary, broken down by fandom, of my ficcy accomplishments for the year:
Through the Looking Glass
Doctor Who; Ten/Rose
Girl in the Fireplace: a good episode narratively speaking, but a bit on the confusing (and possibly annoying) side for those who had a predilection for the Doctor/Rose relationship. Besides, I’ve always wanted to write a fic that included a horse as a plot device.
Weevils Wobble…But Do They Fall Down?
Doctor Who/Torchwood; Jack/Martha UST
I am immensely proud of this fic if for no other reason than it has:
a) a believable action/adventure plot and
b) features a pairing I do not in any way ‘ship
This was also my first attempt at participating in a ficathon of any sort (yay bubbles!), and was pleased to have my many anxieties about writer’s block and poor writing laid to rest.
Of All the Chippies in All the Universes
Doctor Who; Ten II/Rose
This story sat in outline format on my hard-drive for almost 4 months; I couldn’t find a way to write it any sooner – not so much because of what happened in the series 4 finale, but because of the way it happened. Emo-overload, I suspect. But I’m better now.
All Good Fish go to Heaven
West Wing; Josh/Donna snarking
I got to write about Gail! The most unrecognized, unsung and underappreciated supporting character in the history of ever! And then I killed her. Oops.
Box-and-One Defense
West Wing; Gal Pal power!
I was so very happy to be able to participate inpellucid and
beanpot’s
galpalficathon, and to be able to write happy, pre-Gaza-angst CJ and Donna to boot! Same time next year, ladies? *g*
Old Habits
BSG; Adama/Roslin
No Adama/Roslin reunion scene in Exodus II? I think not, RDM! My indignance at this omission was enough to get me writing BSG – and as will readily become apparent, I have yet to stop.
Pound-for-Pound
BSG; Adama/Roslin
I have a bit of a fascination with the constant give and take that characterizes Bill and Laura’s relationship – both professional and personal. They both have given so much to the fleet, and carry so much guilt about not being able to give more; I don’t think that’s ever been so explicitly laid out as it was in the aftermath of the exodus from New Caprica.
When Necessity Speaks
BSG; Adama/Roslin
As much as I love the idea of a Bill/Laura relationship, I don’t want it at the expense of who they are (and have been) as individuals, as friends, as professional equals. This was written in the week between the airing of ‘Sine Qua Non’ and ‘The Hub’ and while on the surface the events of this fic couldn’t be further from what eventually became canon, I do think the ideas and themes are the same.
Helping Hands
BSG; Adama family values
Bill and Lee: so damn alike it’s scary. Season 4 has given me a newfound appreciation of Lee – he’s more than just a pretty pair of biceps! – and it’s possible I may even end up liking him before the series is over. In the meantime, I’ll let him make guest spots (like this one) in my impressive and ever-growing collection of Adama/Roslin fic.
Unspoken
BSG; Adama/Roslin
‘Six of One’ provided one of my favorite and most traumatizing scenes in all of BSG – which given the darkness of the show is saying something. Mom and Dad fighting? Like, actually fighting?!? So of course, I had to have them make up. Eventually. Sort of.
Pandora’s Box (or Five Times Bill Adama Followed His Heart)
BSG; Adama/Roslin
Upon finishing this story – my first ever “five times” fic – I felt that I could finally, truly call myself a fic writer. And it’s fluff – BSG-style fluff, but still – something I almost never write. This is one of my favorites, partially because of how organically the story came into being, but also because of the themes it incorporates.
Reallocation
BSG; Roslin pwnage
Fact: Laura Roslin is awesome. This fic demonstrates one of the many, many reasons why. Plus, she smacks down Zarek, and who wouldn’t want to see that?
No Confidence
BSG; Adama/Roslin
Post-arrival at Earth vision-fic. Not so easy to write, let me tell you. I am growing increasingly curious to see just how much of this story actually makes it into season 4.5 canon.
Lessons Learned
BSG; Adama/Roslin
Am I the only one who gets choked up every time they watch Galactica fall out of the sky in 'Exodus II'? No? Just me? Okay then. Laura gets little screen time in this episode, which is interesting because I see it as one of few pivotal turning points in her evolution as a character. So, as I am wont to do, I wrote introspective spackle-fic.
Promises Broken and Kept
BSG; Adama/Roslin; Kara/Lee
Probably the angstiest fic I’ve ever written. Which frankly worries me a bit because I am not one to indulge (for very long) in the emotional pain and suffering of my beloved characters. But I wrote Lee/Kara, so that’s good, right?
Not Time
BSG; Adama/Roslin
It’s possible I am a little obsessed with ‘The Hub’. Or the events implied therein. But damn it, Bill’s Han Solo moment required an explanation!
Harold and the Purple Crayon
BSG; Adama/Roslin
Initial baby steps; how everything in BSG, including Bill and Laura’s relationship, started. In a couple weeks we’ll finally get to see how it all ends. And then probably I’ll write lots of fic about it, if this year is any indication. *g*
