so, came up here with my sister, her kids, and wolf, to go to the sheepherder's wedding saturday.

the ceremony was conducted in front of the hot springs pool, and, just as the bride started her walk down the "aisle", someone yelled, "a fox, a fox!" and everyone turned away from the bride to watch a fox walking the length of the pool, halfway up a steep slope that overlooks the lodge and hot springs. i filmed it, then suddenly realised, as did the other guests, that we'd kind of forgotten the poor bride, and looked back at her making her triumphant processional or whatever... :D

during the reception, i shocked my niece katrina, when she came upon me deep in conversation with the sheepherders and their cook, macedonia, who don't speak english. "when did YOU learn spanish?!?" she asked. heh. i told her what i'd just told macedonia, "i grew up in a mexican neighborhood... what else could i do?"

sunday, we went back up to the lodge to have brunch with the family and guests. tito, the father of the groom, sat with guenter and me. as we ate the leftover lamb, i asked him how many sheep he has this year. he started telling me all about the different bands, then mentioned, "and the dry ewes we keep by us." i asked him what "dry ewes" are. he explained, "they're the ewes that don't have babies... at the end of the season, we breed them with some of the rams."

i then asked him why they don't have babies - did they keep them dry on purpose?

"well, some of them just didn't breed, some of them had lambs, but..." and here he waved his hands, palm up and shrugged his shoulders, smiling .... sheepishly.

"... but you ate their babies." i finished, and he laughed.

anyway, many adventures followed (with my sister, the kids, wolf, me and cousin kai from germany... no, not THAT cousin kai from germany driving through the mountains and breaking down, blah blah blah, then coming home and swimming in the hot springs with the bats, blah blah blah), and my sister and her kids left early this morning, leaving wolf and me still here in paradise. we'd been planning to drive back down to boise with her, for her to drop us off as they drove through the city, but the house up here is such a mess, i decided to stay and clean house, pay my way, if you know what i mean :D
