The "debut" column refers to when the Type was first mentioned by name.
The "manga" column only refers to Duel Monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! R, and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX series, as later entries fully match the Type roster of the OCG.

Non-game TypesEdit
These Types are only mentioned in cards not intended for use in Duels, so they are meant as tongue-in-cheek references and not considered valid for gameplay purposes such as for card effects that require the player to declare a Type's name (even if those cards are printed in real life).
- Human (
人 間 Ningen) is the Type used for "Everyone's King", a card appearing in a fantasy Carly Carmine had in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime. It was released as a non-game card in the OCG/TCG, where it maintained this Type. - Charisma (カリスマ Karisuma) is a Type used as a joke on "Charisma Token".
- ? is used on some Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links Monster Tokens to indicate the Token's Type is variable, due to the Summoning effect making it either depend on the circumstances or the player's choice. (See also: List of ?-Type monsters)
- In the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime, the Newspaper Club used a card-printing machine to create cards based on themselves, each with their own original Types and Attributes. The Types included:
- Business (ビジネス Bijinesu) for "The★Luke Division Manager"
- Newspaper (
新 聞 Shinbun) for "Masa on the Mic" and "Cub the Picture Popping Paparazzi" - Swindler (
詐 欺 Sagi) for "Tracker the Ultimate Treasure Hunter" - Son (
息 子 Musuko) for "Good Yosh the Overcrusher" - Swirls (グルグル Guruguru) for "Adorable Newbie Swirls"
Card textEdit
In the OCG and TCG, when a Type is mentioned in a card text, it is suffixed with "-Type". From Starter Deck: Link Strike onward, this was dropped in the TCG. Western versions of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links retain this in most cards' texts, even some that were printed after Link Strike and never included it in TCG.
The international versions of Rush Duel cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! RUSH DUEL: Dawn of the Battle Royale!! and Duel Links do not use the hyphen, including the flavor text of the Normal Monster "Summoned Skull".
Rush DuelEdit
There are 29 different Types in Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel; they include all Types from the OCG/TCG except for Illusion, Divine-Beast, and Creator God.
The Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime introduced Types that were exclusive to Fusion Monsters, which are thematically Fusions of other Types and mostly limited to cards linked to a specific character(s):
- Celestial Warrior (Warrior + Fairy), used by Gavin Sogetsu.
- Cyborg (Machine + non-Machine), used by Yuo Goha.
- High Dragon (Dragon + Dragon), used by Lucidien Kallister and The Luug.
- Magical Knight (Spellcaster + non-Spellcaster), used by Yuga Ohdo and Black Otes.
- Omega Psychic (Psychic + Psychic), used by Romin Kassidy and Gwendoline Purdy.
As of the release of the Ritual Monster "Legend Lineage Saber", Celestial Warrior is no longer exclusive to Fusion Monsters.
Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! introduced the Galaxy Type, which is used by Velgearian and Darkmen characters and is the first Rush Duel-original general-purpose Type. High Dragon and Magical Knight would reappear throughout the show, but not Celestial Warrior, Cyborg, or Omega Psychic.

TriviaEdit
- Unlike Attributes, there is currently no card effects in the TCG/OCG nor in Rush Duel that allows a monster to be treated as multiple Types simultaneously, with cards that had such properties in the anime going unreleased or having that effect altered or removed when printed (e.g. the "T.G." archetype, and "Ape" series). This may be due to ruling concerns.
