Just back from the vet. 17 years old and life was too much. She seemed to have given up and had gradually stopped eating and was just wasting away. We will miss her.
I have been a bit quiet recently, mainly because I have had my head in a series of books for several weeks. However I can recommend reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time right through from beginning to end. I got there yesterday. There are a few continuity problems in Brandon Sanderson's telling of the last three volumes, but, considering he was working from the copious notes dictated by the terminally ill Robert Jordan, I think he did a brilliant job bringing the the series to an end. Books 12, 13 and 14 are really well written. So if you want a really long read and love fantasy, then go for it. Now I feel a bit errrm! where do I go from here?
We had a little bit of snow yesterday, but no more over night, A whole day and I don't have to go out, so it can snow if it wants today. I need to get a lot of things sorted for my lessons this term. I have been trying to think of a new topic for the older kids (aged 8-10), I usually pick a topic that I can read little bits out of kids books to try and persuade them to read more, tie in some grammar worksheets and get them to write a story on the theme by the end of the term. I have 1 child who has been with me for the three years I have been doing these classes, so I can't repeat topics yet. So this morning I suddenly clicked that we could do a time travel/historical stories idea. I was sure I had a copy of Tom's Midnight Gardenby Philippa Pearce, and Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliffe, Must have been Daniel's and therefore left in England, I certainly can't find them here. I will have to see if there is anything in the ESOC library that might do. Any ideas of other children's books that are suitable to read would be welcome. The kids all have at least one parent who speaks English but mainly go to German speaking schools, so their command of English is usually not as good as children the same age in Britain.
What a lovely town Limburg is., full of beautiful medieval buildings. We must go back there on a summer's day for a better look. The weather kept fine, just a few spits and spots during the day. But we decided Limburg and Frankfurt were enough for one day, as the Frankfurt Market is really big.
Probably won't manage any others this year, apart from Darmstadt of course, I still have a little shopping to do. Then it is cleaning, washing, haircut and colour, wrapping presents and packing ready to leave early on Friday morning. (Oh and working afternoons too). Only 3 and a half days to go!
When it is your landlord coming in to feed the cat while we are away, the house needs to be tidy and I want the house to be all ready for when we get back with Dan,Kate and Abigail for the New Year,
