community promo - delete if this isn't allowed :)

Hey girls, I just wanted to let you know about a horse community a few of my friends and I started - it's aimed at older riders (atleast 18) who are juggling riding with work or full time course work. Hope to see some of you there!

_hunterprincess

Are you an adult rider (college grad or getting there)?
Are you still a horse crazy, pony loving kid at heart?
Would you rather go to the barn then go to work?
Do you lust over Dover catalogs and have self control problems in tack stores?
Do you love horse shows?
Have you ever been called a hunter princess or dressage diva?
Does bad grammar make you cringe?
Do you like to snark?

If so.... _hunterprincess/ wants you!  Go here and follow the instructions to join.
See you there!

newbie :)

Driving

Anyone have any good tips, techniques, or drills for driving a horse while on the ground? I mean a young horse starting off in a round pen. I'm breaking my 2 yr old by round penning and I am moving on to driving on the ground. I want her to learn to turn and how her body works. Not looking for a total how to, just some tips you guys have learned! Thanks!

college

So I noticed that a lot of you guys are in college or have been through some kind of equine program. I'm looking for some advice. I'm trying to choose between 2 colleges right now. National American University which is in Rapid City, South Dakota and Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. NAU is a private school and has a 4 year program. Kirkwood is public and also has a 4 year program. I'm interested in a program that will prepare me to be a trainer and teach me a lot about breeding and barn management. Are there any other schools that I should consider?? I really want a 4 year program. And if you're already in or have been through an equine program in college then what should I know or consider as I'm choosing?

Thanks!

AH ha... FIRSTLY... i would like to say that this horse is AMAZING... what a great boy... I have a copper metal on my wall from the time he started to show signs of soreness in the middle of a flat class (which i believe is from this show too...) so I glanced at my coach who told me to continue this class and that would be it... so I picked up a wee bit more contact. ( We stopped and took care of he's sore foot as soon as we walked out of the class I Swear!)Anyways... this horse had such a nice movement (and temperment) that on my worst days we still got champion...

That also will help you undertsand why... other then what you can see this is so HORRIBLE...

pinching knees... yanking hands tipping forward... asking in all the VERY wrong ways for a lead change (which is what he's in the middle of doing... )

and what caused my awefull riding... ??? (although this is no excuse) the HUGE mud puddle about a few feet out of the picture... this ground is not a level as it seems and it did collect a large amount of rain water from the previous day... for whatever reason I thought "LEADCHANGE NOW!"

anyways.... makes me smile to know nomatter what agany i was putting him through... he still perks his ears for the camera.

after all... he is "Kodak Momment"

Nice to meet you

Hey all, I'm Sarah and I'm new! I'm 19 and a college student. I was pursuing physics but am in the middle of a transfer to National American University in Rapid City, SD. They have an awesome equine science program. I have a 2 yr old QH filly with Zippo Pine Bar, Two Eyed Jack, Iron Rebel, and Sonny Dee Bar all right on her papers. I'm in the process of breaking her out and she's ending up to be way better in all aspects than I ever expected. I'm thinking of breeding her to Zip's Chocolate Chip in a few years. I am also interested in finding a weanling stud colt out of the Zippo Pine Bar line sometime in the next 6 months. I also own a 9 year old paint gelding (looks like a QH as he's breeding stock.) He's seriously such a cool horse, anyone would be lucky to have him, I am moving in the all QH direction though and I don't want him to have the chance to get ignored. He's has a ton of experience in the show ring and would be a smart investment for any level of rider, even a beginner.
Check him out!!

Drop me a comment or contact me through the link if you are interested in my gelding. I will give a discount to 4h kids and young novice riders.

HEY! I've got a horse for sale here in Lincoln Nebraska ok so if you're looking or know someone who is looking this is the sport horse for you!
15 yr old Irish Warmblood gelding
16 hands
2nd Level Dressage
can jump at LEAST 3'6 and can go higher
chestnut with flaxen mane and tail
$6000 (neg)
he's quite a looker and he is really an exception mount. He needs some tuning up but then what horse doesn't. The only thing is that he gets a lot of pent up energy if not ridden on a regualr basis and likes to spend that pent up energy by bucking. But, that problem is completely negated if he gets regular exercise.
post to this if you're interested or send it along if you know someone else who might be interested. It would me bundles to me if you'd pass this on!
THANKS!
