some bozo with the username laundryguy47 keeps jumping in to all my Halo matches and ruining them. what he does is he turns them into some kinda laundry RP. ok, listen, what i mean is, when he joins the game he gets on mic and tells everyone to go to a certain spot on the map and pretend like its a coin operated laundromat and we're all doing laundry there. and they just do it. everybody stops killing eachother like you're supposed to in the game and they go pretend to do laundry for the whole match. nobody even questions it, they all just do it like thats normal. but that's not normal. its sickening and it cant be allowed to continue

some of the sessions have been kinda fun though i gotta say. there's actually quite a bit more depth to pretend laundry than you might think. lately ive been experimenting with pretending to use fabric softener

the key idea of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is that "thoughts cause feelings" but upon reflecting on it, I realized that all the successful skills I developed for emotional regulation and coping assume the exact opposite: that feelings cause thoughts

My reason for my opinion is practical: "Thoughts cause feelings" made my situation worse, whereas "feelings cause thoughts" allowed me to make a huge amount of progress.

The cognitive behavioral therapy workbook says that people have "automatic thoughts" like "I am a failure" "this is awful" "this is terrifying" that cause them to feel negative emotions, but closely observing my own mind, I realized that these types of thoughts emerged when there was something wrong physiologically.

For example, when I was trying to do something difficult while hungry, I would have very angry and hateful thoughts and would be saying to myself, "This is terrible! I hate this! I fail at everything I try to do!" When I was tired and overstimulated, I would be more likely to have thoughts like "This sucks...I need to get out of here...I hate this place..."

I have found that these "negative thoughts" are shockingly reliable indicators of when my body needs something, whether a break, a snack, some quiet time, something fun to do, a shower, a walk, or something else. I got to the point where if i was doing something and I got to the point where i was thinking "I fail at everything I try to do!" I would stop and evaluate my emotional state. What feeling was the thought expressing?

I found it incredibly helpful to do the opposite of what the cognitive behavioral therapy book suggests and sink down into the pre-verbal level of the thought, exploring how it felt in my body, to learn what animal-self instinct it was coming from.

What did my animal-self want to do? Bite? Run? Hide? Burrow into a dark, enclosed den? Find something to eat? Roam? Play? I understood emotions to ultimately be instincts that promoted survival behaviors.

If the Animal-self feels angry and wants to lash out and bitebitebitebite, that means Animal-self is in a state where aggressive behavior is more likely. The survival purpose of aggressive behavior in an animal could be to defend territory, to protect resources, or to assert oneself against dominance behaviors by conspecifics.

Therefore, to cope with the angry emotion, I ensure that my survival needs are met and engage in an appropriate survival behavior: eat (so Animal-self feels more secure in terms of resources) go for a walk (so Animal-self has plenty of space and feels less trapped) take some alone time (so Animal-self feels that she can defend her own territory) complain to a friend (so the tension of intraspecific aggression and dominance displays is defused)

This has helped me SO much more than the cognitive behavioral stuff ever did.

I think Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has a really good application when you are trying to overcome negative messages that other people or the world have told you, for example if you have a habit of thinking to yourself "i am so ugly" it would help to change your thinking and tell yourself things like "I don't have to be beautiful to have value."

I think it would also work if you got in the habit of using negative thoughts to punish yourself? Like if you were afraid of failure so you started telling yourself things like "I am so lazy, I will never succeed at anything" because you felt that you needed punishment in order to motivate yourself to try harder, or if you felt you needed to rationalize why you don't try so you don't get exposed to failure.

And definitely there are some manifestations of anxiety that it would be helpful for?

But I think it is not good to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as the basic generic therapy

absolutejamer asked:

Why do kiwis have such massive fucking eggs “it’s because they are related to ostriches and-“ yeah ok but like why didn’t they evolve smaller eggs if I was in charge I would do that shit pronto. Thoughts?

crabussy answered:

their big eggs are actually that size for a similar reason to human babies having massive heads!! being bigger at birth can be important.

kiwi are trying SO HARD to become mammals. fur-like feathers, whisker-like feathers, little beady eyes, nocturnal, great sense of smell…. that’s basically a mammal!! they’re well suited for life on the forest floor.

their big eggs work alongside these adaptations to give them a leg up in the bird world. their young hatch already feathered! they’re precocial, which means they’re born with the ability to open their eyes and move around. like foals.

big egg = more powerful offspring from the get-go. babies don’t need to spend precious time vulnerable while they develop on the ground when they’ve already done all that in the egg!

(unfortunately, with the introduction of mammals to aotearoa, these adaptations are a little less useful…)

Important addition: baby kiwi come out of the egg looking like they've come out of a shower with a hangover

They look like one of the downsides of emerging from an egg fully formed is how aware you are off just having come out on egg.

Taking a walk along a quiet naturey trail, looking for a spot to stop and have my snacks, and as I aim for a wee clearing I've stopped at before I see a condom wrapper and I'm like well no shame in cruising glad you used protection I'll just make sure I check where I sit in case the rest of the condom is there, but then I get to my little sitting spot and right where I was going to perch is a set of industrial safety goggles so now im just like. Well what on earth were you doing that you needed That Much protection
