Housing sorted, pickup/dropoff from transit sorted.

Also, just throwin' this out there for everyone, no matter where you live or how old you are.... get a fuckin' will. My cousin didn't have one, and holy shit the hoops everyone is having to jump through to deal with his estate... Oof. Seriously. Get a will. Doesn't have to be fancy, but DO IT. Save your loved ones the stress. (Unless you hate your family and want them to suffer, in which case...)

I'll be staying with Matthew's friend, the one who has been handling all of the affairs. They've got four dogs (shepherds!), three cats, and three kids. Should be fun! And I can stay as long as I want - which means if we don't hear back from the PA fam, or unless they're like OMG YES COME VISIT, I'll just stay there until my flight leaves on Tuesday and help them inventory Matthew's stuff, because they have to have a completely accurate list in order to get out of probate or whatever.

Very glad things are getting settled! Now I just have to... pack or something? Work tomorrow, meet the bébé, laundry, pack... aiiiiii.

I don't really do year-end wrap-ups anymore, nor do I really do resolutions or whatnot. I'm terrible at remembering things that happen, and I pretty much always fail my resolutions, so....

I started out this morning feeling like I wanted to make some goals, and am ending today feeling like cessation of existence would be preferable. So that's how my first day of the new year is going.

But anyway. Goals! Those are good things to have, right?
  • post once a week to keep track of what I'm watching/reading
  • get back into exercising regularly (still need to figure out how to measure this)
  • walk more (again, need to figure out how to measure this)
  • apply for at least 4 art shows / conventions (whether I get in or not doesn't matter, I just have to start applying again)
  • attend aikido class at least once a month (more often if schedule and money allow)
  • continue hosting Shakesreads
  • plan at least one in-person Shakesreads event (possibly another anniversary meeting?)
  • sew at least two dress shirts
  • cosplay
    • HPS done in time for SDCC
    • old-skool Iron Man rebuilt in time for SDCC
    • create proper Shaun the Valet vest and put together a Shang-Chi cosplay (by WonderCon? if not, SDCC)
  • deal with my TBR stack
    • read all the comics
    • file and catalogue said comics
    • update my pull list
    • weed out comics I don't want to keep
    • read all the books (I think there's like. 9 or 10? I haven't counted in a while. It's a totally doable amount, if my brain will fucking cooperate. Except for Anathem, which should count as 7 books with how big it is.)
    • weed out books I don't want to keep
  • Mandarin learning
    • contact possible tutors for speaking / grammar practice
    • keep up daily practice on Mondly, Duo, Drops, TofuLearn, and HelloChinese
      • look into getting a subscription for HelloChinese, Drops, and Du Chinese (wait for sales/excellent deals)
  • Croatian learning
    • keep up daily practice on Mondly, Drops
    • look for more ways to practice and learn
  • Unfuck my habitat (needs to be a bit more quantifiable / achievable)
    • bedroom
    • workshop
  • Become more financially secure (ha. ha. ha. ha.)
    • make enough to get off medi-cal
    • make enough to be able to cover own expenses
    • make enough to be able to move the fuck out
    • figure out if a live/work space could be made to work
      • roommates?
      • a whole bunch of crafty type people displaying their stuff in the same retail space?
  • try to do Beau Sia's weekly intentions
  • actually go to the goddamn doctor about the many, many health issues that I've been trying to ignore
That seems like plenty of goals, varying from relatively easily doable to "this is a fucking joke, innit?" But at least I'm throwing these ideas out there as possibilities, and maybe having it out there being somewhat public will be the kick I need to actually attempt to do these things.

(At least continuing to host Shakesreads should be fairly easily accomplished, heh.)

edit to add a forgotten cosplay goal

But not often. Probably not very well, either.

But hey, I just realized I never posted links to the couple of things I've written over here, since I wasn't really here much when I actually posted them, so....

ANYWAY stop rambling and post the dang links, self.

I Love Trash, in which we learn about Tony Stark's fave Sesame Street character, and Steve Rogers gets some insight into his friend's behaviours. Also featuring human!Jarvis, bamf!mom!Maria Stark, Howard Stark's A+ parenting (/s), adorable bb!Tony, as well as grown up Tony, Steve, JARVIS, and DUM-E.

It's You I Like, in which the author continues to delve a bit too much into their own issues by putting them on Tony Stark Steve Rogers learns about Tony's encounter with the original TV Super Hero, Mr Fred Rogers. (With all the love and respect in the world for Mr Rogers.)

Maybe some day I'll write something else. Who knows.

Our neighbours decided that playing loud thumpy music at 6am on a Saturday was a great idea. They followed that up with power tools at 7am.

WHY. WHY PEOPLE WHY. WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME.

I would be less annoyed if I'd actually, y'know. Slept through the night until then, but no, my knee was being finicky so I was up working and icing it until it eased up enough so I could sleep. And then some weird fucking dreams, too. Ugh.

So now I am Le Tired, and had to run out and get hymnals from the church so I can play for the Methodists tomorrow as well, which means this afternoon is me learning a bunch of songs that I've never heard before, while mom also wants me to do a bunch of things for HER because they can't decide if we're having people over or not, or if it'll be today or tomorrow, and if we are, then I have to also COOK which meant I had to go to the grocery store too. Because again, they couldn't decide, so we didn't get the groceries yesterday, when it would have been easier...

Adding to my annoyance: the cord on my Shen Wei pendant is shredding and making my neck itchy, so I need to make a new cord, but I don't think I have any more end caps, and again... lots of things to do today/tomorrow. So I guess I'll just continue to be itchy. And tired.

Sometimes I forget that most people that I come into contact with aren't entirely used to my levels of sass and sarcasm. Fortunately, today it worked out okay, but yikes.

My parents' church recently acquired a new pastor, and he and his family are finally moving into their new home, having come to town from Canada. Dad and I went over to help with whatever needs doing, because why not. So there we are, painting the front room, and Matt (the pastor) comes in and is just being all nice and grateful for the help and says, "You guys are amazing."

And my smartass mouth pops off with, "Yes, we are. Thank you for noticing."

And then I remembered that I've only met this guy three times total, and never really had a conversation with him, and while he knows I'm a nerd, there's no way he has any idea how much of a sassmaster I usually am.

So yeah. Happily he didn't take it the wrong way, and the other people who overheard were mostly people who know me better so it's the kind of thing they would expect from me, but still. Come on, brain-mouth filter, try to at least work on occasion!
