Well, here's a story.

I first heard the entire song "American Pie" by Don McLean when I was like 10... I had heard it many times before, but this was the first time I'd heard it in it's entirety. I was blown away, because this song is amazing. Anyway, I went home and downloaded it and everything...and I always thought that it was called "The Day the Music Died". Recently I was looking online for downloadable sheet music for it, and I typed in the search "The day the music died". Nothing came up, anywhere, and I just did not understand why such a popular and amazing song wouldn't be on there... today I told my friend, and he said that it was really called "American Pie". I know it's kind of obvious, but I really thought it was "The Day the Music Died". This ruined my life. However, now I've finally located sheet music for it, seeing as I now actually know the name to my favorite song.

Anyone else ever thought it was called The Day the Music Died?

I know, it's a lame attempt for conversation, but hey, I'm trying.

R.E.M.		According to an article in Q magazine, Michael Stipe and co asked a group of people to scribble down possible names on a toilet wall. R.E.M. took their fancy!
R.E.M.		After trying to choose between names such as Can of Piss or Twisted Kites, Michael flipped through a dictionary and landed on R.E.M.--the name stuck. Note: R.E.M. is just a random name--it has NOTHING to do with rapid eye movement
R.E.M.		On a VH1 documentary, I heard that Michael Stipe and the band were big fans of TV Personality Dan Rather. I'm not sure how they arrived with the rest of the meaning. But the name is actually short for Rather's Eel Mongers.

It bothers me that there's like seven explinations for each band. lol
